DVI Dual-Link resolution?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm a little confused over the max resolution for Dual-Link DVI. Some sites say the max res is 2048x1536, while others say 2560x1600.

I've also seen something about the max *analog* resolution being 2048x1536.

Can anyone clear this up?

thanks

Re: DVI Dual-Link resolution?

....and on the same subject, is dual link DVI that much better than a standard VGA connection to a monitor?

Re: DVI Dual-Link resolution?

Well, 30" LCDs are 2560x1600. Refresh rate also figures into it. So for example you can do 3840×2400 at 33Hz, and that link also says that dual-link is only limited by cable quality.

As for DVI vs. VGA, DVI-D (the digital flavor) is clearly superior to always-analog VGA on digital display devices like LCDs. Dual-link is only required by very high resolutions; it doesn't affect picture quality compared to single-link.
