Spider-Man 4: July 3rd, 2012 - Page 4

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I would love to see a change of season for this Spider-Man film as well. How beautiful would it look with Spider-Man swinging through a winter snow New York City.

Maybe he's on his way to stop the main plot and has to tangle with Electro. Anything to make it seem like he lives in the Marvel Universe. That's one of the problems with shared universe comic movies. The characters always seem like they exist by themselves. I don't get any sense from Spider-Man that the Avengers or the Fantastic Four are out there somewhere. A line or two would help in that regard.
Glad to see someone else agreed with one of my points

I've liked both of them in a few things but I can't see either of them working for Spidey.

I don't really like either as Peter. If I had to choose, I'd go with Fugit. I don't care at all for the other kid.

UPDATE: Sony Going with a New Spider-Man? - ComingSoon.net

Studio denies replacement. Says they're sticking with Tobey Maguire.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

Tobey isn't a terrific Peter Parker, but I'd rather he stick around than trying out these other dudes. I don't know enough about actors in that age range to suggest a better replacement, though.

hmm interesting that Sony is denying the rumours.

At least there is more movement going on.

I want my Spidey fix soon

I personally like Tobey M. as Spidey, I always thought he did a great job as Spidey.

Me too.

I like Fugit, but hope Tobey will come back.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I dunno I kinda think Raimi should bow out. He wants the same cast it seems, and I think that would be a mistake.

Recasting would freshen the franchise nicely and let someone else take a crack at the franchise.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

The series needs a better script than the last one. Other than that, I think the director and cast have done a fine job. Certainly the first two films were very good.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

Let's hope that whatever story they come up with, that Avi Arad stays out of it. It was my understanding that he insisted Raimi put in Venom "for the fans" and that insistance majorly contributed to the weak story that was the third movie. Originally, it was to be just the Sandman (and Gobby 2). Which goes to show if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Let the right people do their job.

What I read was that Raimi was going to have the Vulture instead of Venom, but upon hearing that Raimi was going to be doing yet another 1960s villain Arad started whining to him, "Spider-Man doesn't just belong to you, the young fans want to see Venom". So Raimi replaced the Vulture with Venom even though he doesn't like and doesn't have any real feel for Venom and reworked the story around that change.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I'd actually prefer a new team at this point. I liked the trilogy but not so much that I wouldn't want to see another take. I think of it as the same trade off in writers and artists that comics experience over the years.

Anybody remember when David Fincher was attached to do Spidey? That I want to see.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

New director is a must. New actors almost as important as director. Remove the geeky saturday morning cheese fest also. These movies could be great. I never got on board with any of the films. I thought the second was decent, first was ok, but nothing great IMHO. My problems came from the director for the most part.

The thing is though it's not like Arad was just speaking for himself or out of a touch there.

Most of the younger Spider-Man fans that grew up with the character in the 1990s were definitely saying that Spidey 3 had to have Venom.

Irrelevant. To shoe horn a character into a story that was originally not meant to have him ended up the worse for it. In the end, the "Venom fans" were not happy anyway. Raimi was doing fine, both critically and commercially before, so just let the man be to do his thing.

As a side note, continuity with the movies was ruined as Brock was already mentioned in the previous movies as an employee of the Bugle so to introduce him in the third as a new employee (or free lancer) was incongruous.

I think he was only mentioned in the first one, and didn't they just called him by one name?

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I don't remember Brock being mentioned in #1, but I do remember Peter out job hunting because "Dr. Connors fired me." Of course, Dr. Connors' role turned out to be a bit different in the subsequent films as well, so I'd just chalk such references up to being there soley for fans to catch. The actual plan for those characters were clearly thought up later.

That being said, if Raimi can keep his cast together for another one, I say go for it. And I thought #3 was a dud, too...but now that whole mass of plot material is out of the way (along with Venom), and Raimi can cut loose and do whatever he wants. I think he knows this, too, and if given one more shot, he's got another film on the level of the second one in him.

So cook up a good script this time and go for it.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I think in the first Spidey movie, Jameson just tells Betty or someone to get Eddie to take some photos, that's all. As for the Dr. Connors bit, I figure that works more. Maybe Peter was just his lab assistant or something.

'Spider-Man 4' aiming for May 2011 release | Entertainment News & Buzz | Los Angeles Times

Quote:
Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment in the web-slinging superhero series is tentatively scheduled to arrive in May 2011.
In remarks Thursday to theater owners from California and Nevada, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time.
The first three movies comprise one of the most successful franchises in modern Hollywood history, grossing a combined $2.5 billion worldwide. Neither star Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi is yet committed to work on the next installment. But Sony has paid Marvel to renew its rights.
Before she tackles the next “Spider-Man,” Ziskin is producing a one-hour fundraiser for cancer research that will be shown commercial-free on ABC, NBC and CBS on Sept. 5.
Ziskin, a cancer survivor, showed the several hundred exhibitors a new theatrical public service announcement directed by David Fincher (“Fight Club”) that promotes Ziskin’s cancer cause, Stand Up to Cancer.

And, since we're doing this already, here's his quote about Spider-Man 4:

"I don't know if Columbia is offering me the picture just yet, so I don't want to be presumptuous and say that, but if I do get offered the job of directing it once they get a screenplay in…I'd love to work with Tobey and Kirsten...and unfortunately I killed off James Franco. Sorry about that, James."

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

There's no way this team will hold out for another 3 films, and I'd really prefer someone come in who can start (and finish) a new story arc.

I also get the impression that at this point it's just a job for Raimi, he seems a little reluctant to get off the Spider-Man gravy train.
