TMNT - Sequel update...

Straight from Dan Burger, Mirage web dude..

I just got a reply from my Thursday email about the movie sequel possibility. Apparently, these studio folk only look at DOMESTIC Box Office results. So apparently things are not looking good for a sequel. Despite the fact the film can probably make another 40 million or more in toy and DVD sales...

Apparently foreign box office results mean nothing?

The 100 million magic number has to do with with the price they can negotiate for TV sales, which can add a significant chunk of profitability to a film.

Still, the domestic box office should at least make its costs back. If they have a more recognizable villain and more appropriate marketing for a sequel, it could do better business than TMNT. Just like Superman, the Turtles have been out of the movie limelight for a while, and people are getting excited again with this movie and its future DVD sales.

Wow, it only did $9Million in the world wide release. That don't sound good at all.

Still, it made it's money back in it's first week, and $40 million total. With a bit better advertising and a more recognizable villain (Shredder, Triceretons, etc) a sequal could do better.

Looks like it being live-action may come to fruition.. and perhaps the return of the director from the very first Turtles movie. All good news to me.
