PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

When trying to play "Prestige", I experienced freezes 6 times where the player would then only recognize eject and off. Nothing would work until it was powered off and on and then it would freeze again on Version 1.6. I also experienced freezes on "The Departed" but on the third try it worked.

I disabled the wired internet connection and it now seems to play both movies fine.

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

Weird. I've read on both HTF and AVS how some people get the freezing problem to disappear with 1.6 and others don't. Perhaps it has to do with the type of Internet connections people use and it only corrects half the problem.

Everyone seems to have success with disabling the internet connection. Supposedly it locks up when the Internet connection backs up.

I thought disabling the Internet solved the problem but at chapter 15 the freezes started again and I couldn't get past them.

Powered off/on and skipped through the previews, warning, etc and then to chapter 15 and it froze again and again

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

Sounds more like a fault on the disc especially if it continually happens at an exact spot. Most of the PS3 freeze reports don't have continual issues with any one given point.

Yep, sounds like a disc issue not a player issue. I had only a few with 1.51 and none with 1.6, though I have had it freeze a few times after exiting folding.

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

I never had any problems UNTIL 1.6... Just last night I changed my network setting from wired to wireless and that seems to have "fixed" the problem. I will be doing more tests tonight.

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

Anyone notice if it disconnects during movie playback with a wired connection too, or only with wireless?

John,

It is clearly the wired connection that is giving the trouble. I believe, but have not tested, that the wireless connection will also cause problems IF you are signed into the PS3 network. I didn't get around to testing it last night, I will try to tonight.

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

i have noticed lower frame rates if i dont restart my ps3 after 12-24 hrs of folding. the untrained eye (my mom) didnt notice it but it drives me nuts. I restarted and it was back to normal. it also takes way longer to open games and demos if it's been folding w/o restarting. i think restarting it clears the ram or something.

i have a hard wire DSL coming from a 4 port router (no wireless) and havent had a single movie freeze on me.

Good luck!

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray 1.6 freezes

I'm hooked up wireless, using firmware 1.6 and I watched the prestige last night with zero problems.

1.6 logs you out of the network while viewing a movie (and logs you back in when you stop the movie), so freezes related to that shouldn't occur, that's why I was curious if it did the same thing for the wired connection. I leave mine logged in all the time and haven't had issues since 1.51, but 1.6 introduced the logout/login function.

I have had the system lock up a few times after folding as well - seems hit or miss, about 40% of the time, usually after longer periods of folding and I have to restart as well.

I was aware that 1.6 was supposed to log you out when watching a movie, but...

As I said before I switched FROM wired TO wireless. When wired I had the freezing problem. Last night I watched Talladega Nights again, the ps3 logged out of the network as it is supposed to and I had no problems with it freezing. One problem I am STILL having however is the ps3 sometimes doesn't respond to the BD remote. It will react to the "ps" button and offer to turn off but the rest of the button have no effect. If I grab a game controller it responds normally...

Shane.
