So what are the experienced out of towners doing? Are you coming in for Monday activity or just the Tuesday activity through Thursday?

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

Most should arrive on Monday for the Tuesday-Thursday activities.

I wouldn't panic if you don't already have a "swag bag"

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

A late afternoon email from Grace Lee informs me that last year's attendance was about 3500. That was before VSDA joined IEMA to become EMA. I expect this year's attendance to be higher as both the home video industry and the gaming industry are now at the same show.

DTS will be exhibiting on the 3rd floor. If they're not giving a special HTF presentation it's worthwhile to stop by their suite. At past shows they've done a very nice demo and handed out sought after DTS demo DVDs.

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

I've found the "swag" has dropped a lot in previous years. Sure, you'll find some keychains, postcards, stickers and other stuff, but the number of screens has dropped a lot (and I can't say I've ever gotten anything good at the show). Fox was giving away X2 hats one year, and Family Guy t-shirts, but most of the stuff I pick up is junk.

I'm not saying you won't find interesting stuff there, just don't expect to come home with tons of movies on DVD.

The last day of the show is pretty much a "pack up" day for the exhibitors, especially after lunch.

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

I disagree. I found that all that little stuff is appreciated by friends, family & co-workers who weren't there. When Pokemon was big and my niece and nephews were little, they loved getting stickers, etc. Star Wars baseball caps are always popular. My wife likes anything related to Pirates of the Caribbean and fantasy films. Guess you have to know your audience, including yourself. Chances are most of the screeners for easy pick up are not first run, big budget titles. But, I'm certain most of you will find product of your own particular interests.

Of course, it does help if you really write about the titles you acquire. Some of the better screeners are held for the working press. My particular interests are historical and military history documentaries and historical feature films and I've always been satisfied with what I received at the show or afterwards when I've followed up with the PR folks.

Does the Venetian offer complimentary wireless/wi-fi access for laptop users in individual room, or perhaps just on the ground floor?

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

From the reviews I have read on the travel sites, they charge $10 per
day for in-room broadband access.

As for free WIFI on the ground floor? Have no idea, but would doubt it.

It's amazing. I stay at a cheap Courtyard Marriott and the Internet
is free. Stay at one of the most expensive hotels in Vegas and you
have to pay for it. Go figure.

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

I was afraid of that. I was at the Westin in Charlotte, NC last weekend, and it was also $10/day, but it was free on ground floor/lobby area, so that's where I did my surfing during my stay.

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

The Venetian-Sands Convention Center featured complimentary wireless service for press during CES. It might be available at EMA. Grace Lee might know if the same service will be available in July.

I'm trying to decide if I should rent a car. Is everything taking place at The Venetian including all of the parties? I read something about the Starz party being at The Palms. Will they shuttle everyone?

Chalk another one up for EV-DO tethering from the Treo.

THey have to pay for that all marble bathroom somehow. Besides they cater to business, and most people traveling for business won't bat an eye at dropping $10 a day for internet (or will just use their air cards).

I don't know for sure, but I imagine so. Even if they aren't if that was all you were going to use it for I would just take a cab.

Schedule isn't finalized yet, but lets just say that I don't think think you will need to stop by on your own time

Well you do have to remember that the last place they want you to be is in your room.

Anyone else flying out there on Northwest?
With all their problems lately, I'm a little worried about my flight. (Mine is Monday evening) I sure hope they get things straightened out by mid-July.

I'm also flying Monday evening, but with Southwest. Good luck with NWA, I rarely have a good experience with them.

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

It's getting closer now - I'm excited! I'm looking forward to meeting thsoe of you I haven't met yet and saying hello to those from the HTF event in 2004.

This Vegas trip is perfect; normally I would have never in my lifetime booked a vacation in Vegas - it's just not my kind of place...I'm more of a "remote places" person with a tent on my back...but the girlfriend has always wanted to go to Vegas (her definition of a vacation is more in line with the mainstream...pampered and luxurious) so I'm bringing her along so she can have fun, plus it's for home theater stuff so it's perfectly fine by me!! Woo hoo! Gotta check out the dam and the canyon...any other good places to visit??

Re: HTF/EMA Vegas 2007: Welcome! Post questions or say Hello here!

If you're into UFOs, Area 51 is just a longish drive away. You can download driving instructions from various websites. If you're into military aircraft, drive by Nellis AFB and park on the highway shoulder to watch the F-15s & F-16s come in to land. Pre-9/11 you used to be able to park right next to the runway security fence but not anymore.

Thanks, it was also confirmed in this publication that Andrew posted a link to in another topic. I can't copy the link here since I'm a newbie.

You can always try indoor sky diving here:

My wife did this years ago as a part of corporate team building exercise.

The art gallery at the Bellagio is also a nice diversion from all the poker and blackjack. Last time I was there, it was filled with Picassos and Monets...

I'm sure many of you read about Steve Wynn accidentally sticking his hand through one of his Picassos... I think it is a safe bet that that one isn't going to be on display
