Re: Welcome

As past HTF national meet attendees my wife and I are looking forward to this one!

Re: Welcome

Hello, everyone! This will be my third national HTF event, having attended the LA meets in 2001 & 2004. Looking forward to seeing familiar & new faces alike!

And I gotta say, the Venetian is definitely an upgrade from the Beverly Garland...

Re: Welcome

Craig,

Yuh think?!

Happy you are returning for another HTF event!

Re: Welcome

Hi everyone. This will be my second HTF national event. I guess you could say I got hooked after attending in 2004 (was it really three years ago???). Although the stint is shorter, I think it will be just as awesome!

So what do people think about airfare? Better to wait or better to buy now? Allegiant Air actually flies out of my city, but only on Thursdays and Sundays, otherwise it would have been a great deal (about half off what I'm seeing on standard carriers).

Re: Welcome

Hey Guys!!

This sounds like fun! I haven't missed a national meet yet, and I don't intend to miss this one.

Hopefully my boss agrees and lets me take the time off. From the looks of the schedule, we'll be back home on Friday, right?

I'm thinking sooner rather than later. Oil prices are starting to rise again, and what I'm reading says they expect that to continue through the heavy summer travel months. Air fares are probably going to go nowhere but up.

I'm actually thinking of driving again. It's become a bit of a tradition with me...

Re: Welcome

Howdy!

I went ahead and booked airfare on American Airlines. At $218, it beats my last round trip in June of 2006 by $140.

While there is a possibility that Southwest will have a special fare in the coming months, it is equally likely that the extra fees will add up quickly, and that the flight will involve connections. I'd much rather fly direct, even if it means paying a few dollars more.

But enough about flights. What about LOVE?

It sounds like Monday night will be our only guaranteed opportunity to do something on our own. Cirque du Soleil/The Beatles LOVE is playing at the Mirage, just across the street from the Venetian, at 7:00pm and 10:00pm. Tickets will be on sale soon--probably within the next week.

I also am interested in seeing Blue Man Group, but not set on it. I figure I'll wing that at the hotel.

By the way, if the Beatles or the Blue Men aren't your thing, check out Cirque du Soleil 'Ka' or 'O'...Ka has the most spectacular staging of any live show I've ever seen.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Re: Welcome

Ron straightened me out. I think the "official" schedule is fly in on Monday and fly out on Friday. I got the time off, so I'm IN!

I'm looking forward to meeting everybody/seeing returning folks again too. Steve, your site used to be the first web site I'd visit every morning.

Re: Welcome

It's better to book airfare early. Prices are cheap now so do it when you can. For me, I just want to plan this thing properly so I'm in and out at the right times without regrets - just to maximize my summer vacation. If I didn't have my sister's wedding to go on the Saturday before, I would have just taken a week to drive down and see as many sights as I could. I like long drives...and from Ontario - that's a long drive!! Ha!

Re: Welcome

Hi Ron -

Just wanted to make sure that you received my email reply back today regarding the HTF EMA event.

If not - shoot me a PM and I'll try to reply that way. Thanks.

Re: Welcome

HTF team,

I am very happy to introduce myself as one of the members that just got excepted to this great event. This will be my first HTF meeting. I was going to go to the last one in '04, paid the $100, but then a few weeks prior I had another arrangement to attend. I was very bummed out about it. But this year I am going....no matter what.
I still got some Southwest credit to use, so I should fly for $0.00, we will see. Did any of you guys/girls already booked the hotel? Do we just mention the HTF event to receive the special rate?

Look forward to meeting you all very soon.

Re: Welcome

2nd event for me, and I'l be there with my camera... and my parents! They've always wanted to go to vegas so they are using this as an excuse to do that, the dam and the Grand Canyon.

Re: Welcome

Yes, what's the scoop on the hotel reservations? Can we make them now?

Also, Ron, if you would PM or email me your address, I'll cut you a check for the group ticket to The Beatles LOVE. Or do you take Paypal?

Re: Welcome

Hi all,
I was wondering if they are looking for "journalists" from all walks of life. In other words, is EMA and/or HTF powers that be looking for experienced individuals that have complete knowledge of the industry? While I have a passion for movies and television and home theater in general, I'm kind of new to the game, having just established a reputable system in the last year. Is this something that EMA wants? Or are they only looking for hard-core, long established home theater enthusiasts?
Sounds like a great experience; I just want to make sure I'm qualified and not getting in over my head.

Re: Welcome

Adam - my point was that I am not one of those. So I take it that I would be biting off more than I could chew?

Re: Welcome

Do you like movies and have an opinion as you what you do and don't like when it comes to movies, DVDs, and hi-def? If the answer is yes you will have a good time. The fact that you are a medium-core, short established home theater enthusiast, just means you might learn a few things while you are there.....

I would certainly answer yes to your question. Thanks.

Re: Welcome

Really, when it comes right down to it, No Experience Necessary.

Do you buy DVDs? Are you interested in meeting with the studios,
seeing new product and voicing an opinion about the products you purchase?

Do you think you could return from Vegas and write a paragraph or
two about your experience?

If the answer to those questions is YES, then you are
exactly the candidate for this event.

EMA wants to connect with the average consumer. They want to
meet with people who buy the products the studios manufacture.

I hope that we have not put too much emphasis on experience.
This is going to be a real eye-opener for everyone that attends
in that you will be directly meeting with studios and Home Theater
companies.

It's going to be fun -- and EMA has assured us that they are going
to make this a worthy experience for those who attend.

I also know, based on so many past HTF events, you are going to
have a BLAST meeting with fellow members who share your passion
in this hobby. Most of those coming this year are veterans of past
meets and are exceptional people to hang out with.

Re: Welcome

Ron? Do you think I could apply, still? I'm going to Vegas in a few weeks, but I'd frankly rather go out with you and the HTF Family, than the small bachelor crew I'm meeting up with.

I'll apply properly, after I submit this post.

Welcome aboard Matt!

Re: Welcome

Just sent in my email to Ron but I thought I would post the question here that I asked him....

My schedule would dictate that I fly in to Vegas late Monday night and then have to take a flight back to my home town Thursday night. I assume the festivities would be over by say 8 or 9pm and I would be able to do this?
If any of the powers that be knows if this would work, let me know. Thanks!!

Re: Welcome

The show starts Tuesday AM and ends Thursday PM, so you wont miss any of the EMA/HTF sponsored events.

Re: Welcome

That being said the later flight out on Thursday, the better....

Re: Welcome

Jason,

Just received your email minutes ago. Welcome aboard!

Absolutely no problem with your plans. I believe the show
ends at 5pm each night. The airport is 10 minutes away.
There are a few who are leaving later Thursday evening. The
only minor problem I see is that (pending on schedule to be
announced) you may miss out on some cool parties. Still,
the most important thing is that you are joining us out in Vegas!

Matt,

You are all set to go. We have already exchanged emails.

Since you are a veteran of *multiple* HTF events like this
you might want to assure people that they are making the
right choice in joining us.

Re: Welcome

Very cool.
Thanks guys. Looking forward to my first HTF event!

Re: Welcome

Jason,

Glad you'll be joining us. These HTF trips are a lot of fun and there's definitely no experience necessary. As a member of the forum, you obviously are interested in the kinds of things we'll be doing.

When it's all over, you'll be able to look back on this as an amazing "Once in a lifetime" experience. Then you'll be ready for the next one.

Re: Welcome

Oh man am I looking forward to this one! It's been a year and a half since my last Vegas trip, which is a new drought for me. Not only Vegas but getting to meet many of the members of this board whose opinions I have come to respect over the years.

Two questions for now...

Are all the tickets for LOVE gone? I've seen every Cirque show on the Strip except for this one and Zumanity so I'd love the chance to see it. If not, I've heard a lot of good things about the Venetian's version of Phantom of the Opera. I may have to take that in instead.

Also, one of my friends that's a Vegas nut wants to fly out and shack up in my room. Is there a problem with this? He's not an HTF member, so I told him he can't expect to take part in the festivities and he seems fine with that. I guess my main concern about this is whether the Venetian's rooms have double beds...we've been friends since childhood, but we aren't that friendly.
