Yeah. The older I get, the more I just want to sit down and enjoy the show.

Fogies.

Here's an article in the Boston Herald on Brad Delp. Apprently he left several suicide notes.

Sad, sad, sad.

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

I need to read the music section of the forum more often. I just learned this news an hour ago reading Entertainment Weekly. It's not unusual for me to be a week or 3 behind in reading it.

They have a page with births, engagements, obits, etc. Richard Jeni was at the top of the page, a story I heard about right after it happened.

Then I scanned down the page & saw Brad Delp 1952-2007 & was shocked. Especially since it was 10 days ago - how did I not hear about this? I listen to the radio all day... it's almost like going 10 days after the Superbowl without hearing who won.

The mag just listed "undisclosed causes", then I found this thread & saw the word suicide. Wow.

Boston was one of my favorite bands, mostly based on the first album. (Most of my other favorites are people like the Beatles or Elton John who have huge catalogs.)

Anyone else remember what a running joke it was for years that the Third Stage album would never be released? Then it finally came out & a few more followed.

One of the greatest voices in rock history, I think.

Fans of early Boston should check out Barry Goudreau's album from the early 80s, which Brad sang on & cowrote some of... to me it sounds more like Boston than some of the real band's later work:

Also check out Orion the Hunter's one album from 1984, which Brad sang on, so it sounds Bostonish, too:

Here's another one Brad recorded with Barry in 2003:

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

As if Delp's death wasn't sad enough, apparently his ex-wife is trying to mess with Tom Scholtz.

Scholtz & Co. Excluded From Funeral

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

It's clear that part of what had Delp feeling depressed was that he felt he was caught in the middle of the war between Scholtz and Goudreau, so what does Tom do? Slam Goudreau in his letter to Rolling Stone about Delp. I won't say he's to blame for Delp's death, nor that I would hope he'd be excluded from the funeral, but those close to Delp have access to more information than we do. I certainly wouldn't automatically assume that Micki is in the wrong for excluding him.

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

I would have excluded Hitler from my grandmother's funeral. Beyond that, there are very, very few legitimate reasons to let a personal issue affect a funeral. You don't get to take that back. Ever.

I'm not saying that Micki Delp may not have a perfectly good reason to be pissed at Tom Scholtz. I am saying that unless he personally fired up the grills and connected the tube to the car exhaust pipe, I seriously doubt that whatever it is is enough to warrant what she did. Remember, Brad and Tom were getting along well enough to still be writing and touring together.

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

Tom has posted comments from the band members about the allegations being made. Brad was a grown man who made his own decisions about what he wanted to do, and while I'm sure there were conflicts involved, he was certainly capable of deciding not to be involved with Boston if he felt that bad about it.

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

I guess he decided not to be involved with Boston -- or anything else.

Re: Brad Delp R.I.P

It is sad that he took the coward's way out.

I'll never let that comment pass, about anyone.
I've had friends make that choice. I don't judge it, beyond, I'll miss them.
You don't know what's in another's head, or how it is for them to carry their load.

When a physically healthy adult commits suicide, mental illness is involved. I wouldn't call it a "choice" at all.
