G.I. Joe live action movie - Page 3

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

It's way too early to tell, but this could still end up being really fun.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Not based on them taking the American out of this... Forcing it into Global PC territory... and socking it with a script that is reported to be terrible.

And a director who IS terrible!

This has late term abortion written all over it. I read the comic book as a kid and loved Scarlet. I wanted to be her.

For the record, I really like Transformers.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

I like transformers too, but a Wayans brother is in this movie, and the director? wow, just wow.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

The Super Bowl teaser for "G.I. Joe" has hit the net. Check it out at the link below. Say what you want about Stephen Sommers, the guy does know how to deliver quality eye candy.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Trailer looks like another cookie cutter action movie, so I'm sure that's why they named this GI Joe, for more ticket sales. I'm sure I'll rent it for sure, but probably won't waste my money seeing in the theater. My set-up is decent enought for me to wait for a $4 rental price. My opinion may change after some reviews, but we'll see.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Eh. The costumes don't look that good, and that usually means the movie will suck.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

I was prepared to hate it, but it wasn't bad. The generic costumes are terrible, though. They all look like Snake-Eyes. Everybody making these movies is ashamed of the comic/toy roots and has to get rid of the visual appeal. Stormy looks pretty bland with his all-white gi. At least the original toy had the Cobra logo in orange on the front.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

So there on August 7th. Tone matches the show.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

With the patented Stephen Sommers "ignorance of gravity" for digital effects! He hasn't made a good movie since 1999, and I doubt this'll change that. But at least the fans get a less realistic GI Joe than the cartoon, if that is possible.

But I'll probably see it. Nostalgia sometimes bites the big one.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

i was hesitant to watch the trailer but it actually looks alot better than Wolverine. at least it's not trying to look dramatic. it's a candy action pic and that's what it's delivering.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

I like it!

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Wow, this looks terrible. I wish they would remove "G.I. Joe" from the title and call it "Generic Action Movie" or something more fitting.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

The scene where they are dodging the missiles looks like a rip of Transformers.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

The preview was strange, silly, exciting and unexpectedly interesting. And then the title was G.I.Joe! So it could be fun. It's not like Transformers was an amazingly plotted story either, so as long as this meets that level it will be an entertaining time.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

I had zero expectations for this flick since Steven Sommers is directing it, but I did think the trailer was halfway decent. Most likely the flick will suck, though, mostly due to the aforementioned director.

I agree. Funny thing is those guys dodging don't look like Joe's. They look like Cobra B.A.T. android troops. That makes me very happy, if it turns out that that is what they are. This will be a popcorn summer movie. You need to have these to make movie going fun. What better franchise to go over the top with other than G.I. Joe? My faith in this film as a "good damn time" has just been restored. As a fan, I want to see all the little B.S. stuff like trouble bubbles, U.S. F.L.A.G.G., etc.

Thought the trailer was good, interesting to see this one.

Tell me this is a bad April Fool's joke.

I could take a mask. I could take a hood. I could take a DIFFERENT Mask, provided it did not show the guy's face, and looked reasonable.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Last week I read a script synopsis just before Paramount had it yanked. It sounded like, well, like a Stephen Sommers movie. A military toy line version of Van Helsing.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

after suffering through van helsing. .i would never watch a stephen sommers movie ever again in mylife. I don;t mean disrespect to the true gi joe fans.. this movie is going to suck worse then anything you ever have seen in your life.
kiss the movie goodbye.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Loved Van Helsing, saw it twice at the cinema and own both the region 1 and region 2 editions on dvd. I also enjoyed Sommers two Mummy films and Deep Rising. Looking forward to G.I.Joe.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

As a fan of Deep Rising, I have a glimmer of hope in this project. I'm a Joe fan from '82 when I got the action figures for my birthday. I buy, sell and trade them today. Snake Eyes is possibly the coolest character ever conceived. But, the trailers have left me cold. I had very high hopes for Van Helsing and wanted to love it -- I didn't. I think it's tripe. Universal monsters have more baggage than GI Joe so I will hold off on final judgement until I see it for myself.

What is the release date on this movie. I just went to the web site and all I saw was Summer 2009.

According to the IMDB, August 7.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

1080p
720p
480p

New full trailer is out. I have to say that it's looking a lot of fun, much better than the teaser they put out a few months back. This looks sort of along the lines of Transformers, and if it's anything close to that, I'm there.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

Well, the trailer upgraded my first impression of "Meh" to "I might catch a matinee." I hope the CGI is improved from the trailer though.

Re: G.I. Joe live action movie

It does look like noisy mindless fun, though much of that action looked like cut scenes from a video game.

I'm sure that's exactly what they're going for, as the first one was a cartoon series based on an action figure line, and now they'll inevitably have a VG based on the movie (of course there will be toys as well, but that's less important these days).
