Corey... I see you retracted your reply here but added new entries for MGM Musicals in a different thread. Were you answering to "This Is The Army" musical or know anything about its release?

Mickey & Judy Flicks
Babes in Arms
Strike Up the Band
Babes on Broadway
Words and Music
Girl Crazy

Possible Andy Hardy Flicks
Love Finds Andy Hardy (Already on DVD!)
Andy Hardy Meets Debutante
Life Begins for Andy Hardy

Hopefully, we'll see a full set of Andy Hardy movies as well as a separate Mickey Rooney signature set.

Eric, I'm another one that's waiting for a complete Andy Hardy series set. I asked Barrie M about that a while back and he seemed sure that it would happen, just a matter of time. I also asked him about another long-running series that I'd love to collect, the "Blondie" series with Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake. I don't like to be pessimistic, but I don't see that one coming anytime soon. I asked Barrie if he remembered this series being released on LD back during the format's boom times, but he said that the series hadn't been released on LD. Maybe my memory's going I guess since that series is a Columbia series, it's OT for this thread.

The one WB that I'm still waiting for is "Invisible Stripes" (1939) with Bogey and Raft, Jane Bryan. "When?" Barrie also said since we've seen a few released recently...San Quenton, G-Men (finally!), Marked Woman, The Roaring Twenties, High Sierra, To Have & Have Not, etc, we'll get "..Stripes" one of these days.

I think we'll get alot of male star sets next year. James Stewat V2, Gable V2, Bogie V3, Edward G. Robinson, John Garfield, Cagney V2.

Whose they? and most studio's have been dinging OAR on classic title releases for ages!

As mentioned before, your call for every title of the AA catalogue to be released is just not gonna happen, if your a bit more realistic in your expectations people might take notice.

No studio with decades of titles has the resources to release every single one of their titles on dvd - not withstanding the fact that a good portion just wouldn't be profitable on dvd.

Even if they were made available to download instead the resources necessary to remaster them all to a reasonable standard would take decades...even if you take an immensely profiatable and popular series such as WB's Looney Tunes box sets, there's a reason why only 1 box comes out a year, they don't have the man-power to do any more than that to the standard collector's expect.

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

I'm amazed at how many of my favorite classic titles Warner has already released over the years.

My Warner most wanted list is getting pretty sparse but I'd be overjoyed to see releases of at least some of the following titles this year so I can concentrate my money on their HD offerings.

The Sea Wolf
Kongo (w/ West of Zanzibar)
Dark of the Sun
The Hanging Tree
Invisible Stripes
Desperate
The Beast With Five Fingers

2007 has been a good thus far, but I definately think 2008 will be when I'll see more of the films on dvd from my list. Most of the goodies are coming next year!!

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

warner has just restored jailhouse rock from 4x3 to 16X9.
i don't want them to zoom in on any scene cause the orignal release isn't zoomed at all on the 83 version and the colorized version. every other release including the orignal dvds and releases after the colorized releases are zoomed in pan an scan which isn't the orignal way it was filmed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
my most wanted R1 movies
snowfire-1958 allied artists
tin pan alley
ginger
paddy o day
pepper
delta force 17:8 re release
elvis on tour -se
little big shot
singing kid
captain's kid
great o malley
shadow on the wall
scudda hoo,scudda hay
our little girl
the t.a.m.i show complete concert.
girls on the beach
the cool ones

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

I think you have to leave what defines a "classic" film to the individual and I think it would be correct to use a different term to define films of different eras..."classic" is a little vague and has multiple meanings.

I'm actually very interested in the post 1970 films and it appears from the original post that some of "classic" titles would involve films of this era...I'll start a new thread but how would I find a list of upcoming dvds from the 1970's?

Sorry, but the 70's were my favorite film decade.

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

I thought the films in the Katherine Hepburn Collection (to be released later this month) were to be available individually. I've been trying to order Dragon Seed and Undercurrent individually and can only find the collection on Deep Discount and Amazon, although I'm almost sure they were announced to be available without having to purchase the entire collection. Anyone have any information?

Release details for this set have changed slightly, with TCM no longer part of the announcement and the films no longer being released individually.

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

Thanks for the info, Corey. This is a shame, because I was to order those two movies for myself and for my sister, who REALLY wants only Undercurrent and getting two sets is costly. But at least I'm glad they got released. Undercurrent has been a favorite of ours for many years.

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

Does anyone know whether 'Far From The Madding Crowd' (Schlesinger) is on Warner's schedule for a Region 1 DVD release this year? I'm surprised it hasn't appeared before now. (The Region 2 release isn't in the OAR and is to be avoided at all costs.)

If you have a multiregion player, UNDERCURRENT is being released in R2 in Germany and Spain.

added The Jazz Singer. With about 6 more sets and 12 new films/SE's it's ver possible that we'll have 200 films that came out before 1970.

And from DVD Savant: Warners just announced a promising-sounding Burt Lancaster The Signature Collection boxed set for October 23: The Flame and the Arrow, His Majesty O'Keefe, Jim Thorpe - All American, South Sea Woman and the JFK conspiracy film Executive Action.

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

No TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING in the Lancaster set? Maybe a Robert Aldrich set: ALL THE MARBLES, THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE, THE BIG LEAGUER, THE ANGRY HILLS, and TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING? Or the next Controversial Classics?
