Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

Half of the Compusa stores are closing nationwide, something like 120 of them so this isn't just limited to Overland Park Kansas.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

The article I read said appox 2/3 of the comps were closing. Only about 100 or so to remain open. Threads at dvdtalk and avs forum go into the detail.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

Went to the one closing near me and so far the 'deals' aren't too hot. Most are just 10% off with a few items at 20%. This still puts most items more expensive than elsewhere. Maybe by next week as inventory starts to dry up we'll see bigger % drops.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

There is a COMP USA a couple of blocks from me and it is one of the ones closing. The inventory clearance sale has begun. Right now the discounts max out at 20%, which I'm sure will increase as time goes on. I'm sure the good stuff will be gone pretty quickly. I did actually see price reductions on iPods, something I've not seen before.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

I went today and laughed. Even at 20% they are -considerably- higher then almost and local owned shop in the metro. Seriously, is anyone anywhere paying $70 for a dvdrw? Or taking off the discount 56??

Video cards are all about 100 too much... 7900gt cards at 279? 8800gts at 479? Please. I wonder how people get suckered into those buys. No wonder they are folding.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

I was in one near my house today. Two things:

1) they had a 56.6k modem with a $100 price tag on it. HUH?!?!??!

and then this gem from one of the customers who apparently didn't notice the signs all over the front of the store:

CUSTOMER: (to sales associate) Is this a new policy with the store to have all sales final?

I didn't stick around to hear the salesperson's reply, but I had a good idea about what he was thinking.

Re: COMP USA, OP KANSAS

Anyone know how often the markdowns will come? Right now the computers are at about 5% off while the rest of the store is 10 to 20%. One store that closed in Phx took about 2 to 3 months to close IIRC. I dont think there's really any good buys until it hits 30 to 40% considering the markup that folks are talking about above
