Richard,
With Bonnie and Clyde having it's 40th Anniversary along with Cool Hand Luke, I can't see Warner letting that opportunity go by without doing something similar to what's planned for the latter.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

I'm just happy to hear that The Twilight Zone is coming out before Halloween. I'll also be picking up Poltergeist, a few of the Kubrick titles and a couple of the others.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

No one asked about the long-awaited Harlow set?

Looks like most of what everyone wants is set for 2008 or later.

I appreciate how hard it must be to moderate a chat with ~250 people, and not everybody adhering to the rules that have been posted for months. But I agree Yumbo, this particular quirk was frustrating. Otherwise, these chats are certainly a highlight and thanks to Ron and Parker for putting in the time. And Warners!

Usually, the September-December timeframe is pretty busy with releases so we might see a couple of surprises that weren't even asked about tonight. This is in no way a hint about Harlow, but just a reminder that 2007 has 10 months to go.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Sorry to those who didn't appreciate the blurting out questions, but I personally felt The Jazz Singer needed to be asked about as it's widely considered, next to The African Queen, one of the most important films still MIA on DVD.

I have a feeling the Kubrick SE set and the Blade Runner set are going to be HUGE this year; I can't imagine them being silent about details for any other reason. From the hint they did drop though, it sounds like Ridley Scott is getting the deluxe release he hoped for.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Well, that was an exercise in frustration. What do you have to do to get called on in on of these chats?

Tell me about it, my Yo's kept registering late so go figure. What you see on your screen isn't necessary what Ron and Parker are seeing.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Regarding MY question:

I'm glad to hear that they're discussing "URGH! A Music War!" for release. I've always wanted to see that movie, being as I love 80s music of all types. It's too bad that they no longer have the rights to "Electric Dreams"...I'm assuming MGM might have them now, because of how it was produced by Virgin. I was also hoping they would release "Reckless" and "Impulse" (which is an 80s movie by having a 1989 copyright date, even though it was released in 1990). As for "9 1/2 Weeks", I had read about an extended version on the movie's page at the 80s Movies Rewind. Oh, well.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I hope that "Killer Party" will be released as part of that "Guilty Pleasure" horror movie promotion (even though I don't feel guilty about liking it).

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

I didn't get a chance to ask my question on if The Hanging Tree is in the restoration process for 2007 or 2008 release but at least I have 1 Universial and 8 MGM Gary Cooper titles slated for release on May 22nd. I'm glad he did not spend most of his time at one movie company but spread out his works among all of them as there will soon be 41 titles released of his in DVD format.

How often do you see Sony or Universal for instance do chats like this with us average Joes? I'm very thankful that we even get an opportunity like this - even if we only hear "sometime in 2008" at least its something to go on.

I'm hoping that the "Grumpy Old Men" set finally does happen this year. Even after last year's twofer debacle I'm still hyped to finally have those two with hopefully nice anamorphic widescreen transfers. 5.1 sound would be nice (as the current "Grumpier" DVD has 5.1 on it) but I'll be just as happy with stereo... or even mono sound for that matter. I'll take whatever extras they give us - more outtakes would be awesome. But most importantly of all... I want them in their OAR period.

I'm just glad that I was able to ask my question about No Time For Sergeants! My first chat and I was able to get in.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

I e-filed by Federal Tax return last night. Instead of having my refund wired to my bank account I should just have it sent directly my tab at WHV.

There was a tremendous amount of great news for classic film buffs tonight (Forbidden Hollywood line, Ambersons/Fear, Abbott & Costello, Classic Detectives, Silents, Sheridan, Tough Guys actors, etc.). It's very gratifying that the buying public has rewarded WHV for their efforts and releases show no sign of stopping.

Whether a release is 2007 or 2008 or 2009 doesn't matter much to me. I'd much rather these be spaced out so I can support as many as possible. Glutting the market with releases all at once will hurt sales.

As always, a big thank you to Ron & Parker for hosting the chat and to WHV for participating.

Steve

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Lousy time difference screw-up! Missed my chance to ask about a guilty pleasure title: THE LAST BOY SCOUT. C'mon, this is crying out for a SE w/Tony Scott-Shane Black-Bruce Willis-Damon Wayans commentary!

Anyone know if my dream will ever become a reality?

At least give Warner some credit You remember them mentioning guilty pleasure horror films coming out later this year? This is most probably one of them.

Totally agree. I always wish for more but I'm glad they're here to directly listen to our comments/questions/concerns/etc. No other major studio does that for us.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Any mention of a possible Jane Powell collection?

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

I strongly recommend, that they should allow Qs in turn of first in line to show up, if technically possible. It's almost like a press conference. If you arrive late, get in line!

Give out numbers, and then ask in turn. Give 30 seconds to ask, then next!

Parker - please list the limitations of the chat ie. no spaces between names - nowhere have I seen that mentioned. The ONLY name I use online is Yumbo. Call me slow for not questioning why people have no spaces or underscores between names, but a simple "Do not use nicknames, and you cannot use spaces between your real names" would be courteous to those of us sitting here for 3 hours taking time our of our workday to participate.

The throwing of Qs was simply RUDE, end of story. And why those people weren't kicked is also inconsistent with said guidelines.

We should be in the extras for Shrek - pick me!

Relax. If someone had found the original cut, I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it. I'm sure they mean elements to produce a good disc of the release cut.

If I see Ambersons and the 1936 version of Showboat in HD DVD, I will die a happy man.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

I missed the chat but I am happy with what is announced, especially more Forbidden Hollywood films and sets devoted to John Garfield, Natalie Wood and the Andy Hardy films. I gather by reading this thread no mention was made of the restoration of An American In Paris? I vaguely recall it being mentioned it was due in 2007.

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Wow, thank you Warner and HTF! This was a fantastic glimpse at upcoming releases, even if it's sometimes hard to accept that full restorations and quality extras can't happen without great time and expense. Hey, it looks like Warner alone will be making 2008 a year to remember. And the rest of 2007 doesn't look to bad, either.... Hamlet in 1080p? I can live with that.

I'm almost rabidly excited about many of the films mentioned here. HD Kubrick? Long missing Orson Welles masterpieces? I feel like dancing on the walls and ceiling ala Fred Astaire... which is something else I can now look forward to seeing in a non-public domain transfer!

I understand that a certain amount of frustration and disappointment will inevitably accompany a 250 person internet chat, but let's show some appreciation for the amazing amount of information that was shared, and the people who endured a lot of headaches to make it possible.

Cool about the 1969 Goodbye, Mr. Chips coming. Too bad it's next year. I'm sure it'll be worth it. Thank you Mr. Feltenstein!

Any word on a re-mastered Outland?

Re: *** Official Warner Chat and Discussion Thread

Balances... information vs. purpose.

My first reaction was that of "It's only about classics". Why don't they call it the Warner Classic Movies chat?

Given what it was...those of us who are totally UNFAMILIAR with the majority of titles mentioned would remain uninterested, as opposed to an informed press release, where one can be exposed to the history of said titles, and understand the demand for them.

I as a video store buyer and promoter (of many classics and now HD, that NO ONE else here will carry) like to stay informed.

Sure, chats are hard to control, but they can be improved if feedback is accepted.

Balance (and purpose) is required. All I'm looking forward to are the press releases hinted at.

And for what it's worth, I don't get excited about SD anymore, period. After seeing the poor quality of The Departed SD (not to mention For Your Consideration), it's obvious where the focus is now.

And it was nice to know finally when HEAT is due.

Only thing on my Warner SE/HD wishlist remains to be THE POWER OF ONE (4x3 2.0), and any P&S releases.
