The Shield: Season Six - Page 2

Re: The Shield: Season Six

"The Wire is just so real and they have taken the time to develop the characters of both the bad and good guys."

Yea you watch a few episodes back to back and see how it comes together. The Wire is really a great show.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Great start, lots to work with so quickly, and tension that drips off the TV set. Seems like they also are pushing the limits of TV standards even more this season with the language and lovely crime scene at the conclusion. Still not a more engaging, well-acted and gut twisting show on TV, IMHO.

Yes, Vic has essentially turned Kavanaugh into him. It will be intersting how far he goes. I liked Shane's reaction when it was revealed that he killed Lem pretty much for nothing based on Kavanaugh and Aceveda's lie.

Kind of sad to see Lem's memory being pissed on by the press and Aceveda, I guess, although, he was clearly the most moral of the strike team, he really wasn't entiely clean either.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Anybody else think Kavanaugh will meet his demise this season? People that cross Vic usually end up dead.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

He'll end up in jail...

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Great start to the season. This show just keeps getting better and better. I'd figured the dynamic between Vic and Kavanaugh was going to be tense this year and they certainly delivered on that in the opener. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I love this show so much.

I love how they repeatedly set up these situations were it looks like Vic is going down and there is no possible way out of it, then everything gets flipped around and he survives somehow -- and it all feels completely believable.

Like right now, Kavanaugh has gone so far as to plant evidence in Vic's apartment and I assume he's now getting a search warrant (or already has one) to search and "find" this incriminating evidence. How the hell is Vic going to get out of this one? I can't wait to see. Seems like they're setting up Dutch as Kavanagh's foil, and Dutch is ten times the detective Kavanaugh is. I agree Kavanuagh is going to wind up in jail for this.

The scene with the gasoline and the baby in the Methadone clinic -- tension doesn't get any more intense than that on television. I get the feeling Shane has so much guilt over Lem that he has lost the will to live.

Best writing on television. Why isn't this show as popular as The Sopranos? It kicks its ass in every way.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I have a feeling Vic's apartment has CCTV on it.. and he is going to nail Forrest.....

Man it is going to be a good season...

And what the hell with the murder scene... good lord!

I also agree I think Shane is going to crack or loose it...

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Didn't get a chance to watch the premiere until last night, but that was an amazing episode. I loved Vic's/Kavanaugh's conversation when Vic showed up at his front door. Somehow or another, I think Vic's going to get revenge on Kavanaugh (especially after finding out that Kavanaugh has planted the evidence in his apartment.) Like others, I'm wondering how Vic is going to get out of it though ...... it's going to be hard to refute all that physical evidence unless he can break Emolia's story (or somehow prove Kavanaugh planted it all.)

I loved Walt Goggin's performance after finding out that Lem hadn't betrayed them ... he just appeared totally devastated and seems like he can't quite live with the guilt of it. It should be interesting to see how it plays out over the course of the rest of the season.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I'm surprised nobody's brought up the gunshot sound effect that came up over the end credits. Any ideas as to what that was about?

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I missed that. Where was the shotgun sound, at the end of the credits?

Re: The Shield: Season Six

As I recall, the episode ends with Kavanaugh, about to leave Vic's apartment, he says something which I wasn't able to make out, it cuts to black with the end credits, and after a few seconds of the end credits, there's a gunshot sound effect. Can't check my recording right now because I'm at work.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Kavanaugh said "nothing personal" or "it's not personal", but I don't remember hearing the gunshot. I'll have to go back and watch the ending again.

That guilt's gonna turn into anger. I fully expect Shane to try to take out Kavanaugh. Maybe Aceveda too.

Love this show!

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I really love the re-occurring theme of self reflection throughout the series. Over the years we have seen various characters catch themselves in a reflection as they gaze in disbelief at what they have become. From Vic to Aceveda, Shane and now Kavanaugh. They catch a brief glimpse of themselves in a moment of brief clarity through all the chaos and they can't believe who they see staring back, as if it's a stranger.

This latest one with Kavanaugh gave me chills. Right before Kavanaugh leaves Vic's apartment he catches a glimpse of his reflection in the window. He looks away in disgust and leaves saying "nothing personal" as Johnny Cash's "I Hung My Head" closes out a brilliant episode and in my opinion, the best season opener to date. It just speaks miles for the depth of the writing and character development on this show. I want to see who will be catching a dark side glimpse of themselves next.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Wow -- that was amazing, best episode of anything in several weeks.

Man, season premieres are typically anti-climactic for me, especially after a long wait. Not at all the case here, maybe because I wasn't actively waiting for this one?

Kavanaugh is being given a LOT of rope by his superiors I think.

I loved the Ethan-style (from The Searchers) shot of Shawn within that door frame.

The grizzly crime scene at the end reminded me of a similar scene in LA Confidential.

Superlative writing, near unbearable tension at time.

I thought it was April 13! Man, I missed it all week, lol! Great thing I saw that this thread interestingly enough had 2 pages already.

Just flipped on FX and it's 15 minutes in already... grrr!

It's okay, because I LOVE THIS SHOW!

I hope they keep the kitties away from Dutch this season.

LOL. Yeah, when I saw all those cats at the crime scene as Dutch came upon it, I thought, "You cats better run."

Great show. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

This show is frighteningly good. Plenty of great shows that I love have their best years in their earlier seasons, The Shield seems to be getting better as it goes.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Clap! Clap! Clap! Applause!

Brilliant Episode! In fact, the very best episode of
The Shield ever!

Brent, you are so right --- this show is just so good it isn't funny.

You can just feel the crescendo growing week by week,
about to explode into something that will be absolutely insane!

I will greatly miss Forrest Whittaker. He is an actor that I have
come to admire so much. His performance in this series has
stood out more than any of his co-actors. I applaud his presence
on this show week after week.

I am just on an emotional "high" over this show. There hasn't been
a season that has been disappointing. The Shield stands as
one of the very best shows of its kind.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I don't like the way Kavanaugh left the show at all... it seemed more convenient from a writing standpoint than a realistic character development. Having said that, great episode... another home run... and I'll miss Whittaker on the show.

I thought this as well at first. It's rather clumsy and dissapointing coming from such a shrewd character. But I do buy his explanation about not knowing how to be on the other side of the law. He had what, 24 hours to come up with something or else lose McKey forever, these were the acts of the desperate man. In a nutshell, he was done since last season.

Shane is a curious one. Unabashedly racist, yet perfectly content to bag a black prostitute. Talk about descent into darkness. Gosh I am so clever.

My favorite scenes were between Claudette and Dutch as they smell foul play in Kavanaugh's story. The quiet conversation between these two upstairs showcases them both at their very best, her relentless pursuit of truth at all cost (including her chance at a promotion a season or two ago) and his superlative intuition. They are truly the best of the barn.

No mention of the grizzly crime scene from last week eh? Too much to deal with I guess.

I enjoyed Shane's semi-confession to Ronny. I can't wait to see how that story plays out.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

So, is it confirmed that Whitaker won't be a part of the show for the rest of this season? I know there really isn't any way to keep him around after what has transpired, but I guess I'm just in denial that he won't be back and I will definitely miss his presence on the show. Like Ron said, he stood out more than any of his co-actors and the interaction between him and Vic elevated the show to new heights IMHO.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I have been saying this for years now, but the Shield is truly the best show on TV.

I am really going to miss Forest Whitaker he was a real pleasure to watch on this show. I also love watching Walton Goggins (Shane), I really don't think he gets enough props for his acting on this show, I think he is brilliant.

I cannot wait to see how this season plays out. It sure has started out with a bang and definitely hasn't let me down. This show just keeps getting better and better.

Also, Paula Garces (Tina, the hot rookie cop) is nice eye candy.

I actually prefer her on the show. The question is, is Dutch hitting that?
