The Shield: Season Six - Page 6

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I agree the show has slowed a bit, but I've still enjoyed every single minute of it and don't think it's inferior to prior seasons. The build up to the inevitable confrontation between Vic and Shane has been well paced in my opinion, even though its been slower than the speed the show generally moves at.

Still the best show on TV in my opinion, and has been several years.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

That was the best episode in a few weeks. Just awesome how they brought the money train and Aceveda's BJ back into the fold. Also, the stuff with Dutch/Billings/Tina/Hyatt played out great. Needless to say, the preview for next week's finale looked absolutely insane and I can't even begin to imagine what's actually going to happen. I really wish that we weren't already at the end of this season so soon, seems like it has flown by way too fast.

Yep, one is pure exploitation, and the other is acting in the furtherance of a plot line.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Had been avoiding this thread for fear of spoilers since so many finished watching the season a while ago but decided to pop back in. I'm kind of surprised to find that some feel that the show "put on the breaks" or was "spinning it's wheels". Other than the small interval between Kavanaugh going down and Vic finding out that it was Shane, this season has been going full bore IMO. If next week's finale lives up to the rest of the season then this will easily be my favorite season of the show.

Was I the only one who saw a connection between Tina/Hiatt and Vic/Danny back in season 1?

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Man...Shane never fails to f* up. The dude THINKS he's as smart as Vic...but, eventually he folds under pressure and sticks his foot in his mouth. He was so scared of losing his new ally, he pops off on the money train?? Man, he'll be lucky if they don't torture him to find out what he knows.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when he dropped the money train info. Then the look on his face was like "what the hell did I just do". Should be interesting to see how everything plays out.

So what did every body think of tonights finale... It sure does leave it open for the next season... good lord...

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Lots of room for more....as it should be. Got be a another decade of stories left.

I guess still on for final 13 episodes in early 2008, filming should have been started (according to the article at beginning of this thread). Unlike the end of the Sopranos this Sunday, at least we can still can look forward to Mackey next year, with a lot left to do.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

So, what did everyone think of the finale?

I did like how Mackey used the photo to parlay help from Acevada in going after the bigger fish.

Shane's well-meaning plan was just so badly wrong.

Looking forward to the next season.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

That was a good episode but somewhat uneventful for a season finale. In all fairness though, it would be pretty ridiculous for Mackey to crack a massive conspiracy in one episode. I did want to see a showdown between Vic and Shane but I'm also glad that that story will still be around for the last run of episodes.

Overall, I think S4 and S5 were better but this year is just behind them. The Vic vs. Shane storyline and what Michael Chiklis and Walton Goggins have done with that was great. I've said it before but even great shows that are in their sixth season are usually looking back on their best episodes but the last three years of The Shield have, in my opinion, beaten out the first three (and that ain't no easy task).

Re: The Shield: Season Six

What a disappointment that was. Definitely solidified my concerns about stretching it out another 13 episodes. Yes, there is still story to tell...but I think it could have been told much more efficiently (and intensely) if they would have just wrapped it up when they originally planned. I thought they could have done a much better job on Hiatt's character. Interesting how quickly he did a complete 180 after showing a lot of promise. I guess that was a result of the writers realizing they had to keep Vic on for another 13 episodes. And they spent way too much time on that uninteresting homeless dude case.

Sorry to sound like such a drag, but man that was disappointing.

I've seen multiple people in this thread say that the show was supposed to end after this season but Shawn Ryan has said that that was a rumor and they never had an idea of when they were ending the show.

And really this entire season is just the ten episodes that were leftover from the fifth season of production so there will be six seasons when the show finishes.

I would agree, but season 5 was definitely the best for me. I loved the Mackey/Kavanaugh showdown and wished we could have had more of that this season. Those first few episodes with Kavanaugh were my favorite of this season. But I would certainly put season 4 & 5 ahead of this one. Too much potential unrealized. I'll still keep an open mind for season 7, and I'll be there watching it, but I can't help but think the series would have been much more satisfying as a whole if they wrapped it up when they originally planned.

That's interesting if that's the case, but it doesn't change my humble opinion that the show would have been better off ending after this season, or perhaps this season but with the standard 13 episodes instead of 10.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

As far as the finale, color me disappointed. I don't like the way they ended a few of the story lines. It seemed rushed. I do think this was easily one of the best seasons of the show however.

At least we're getting one more season though.

I thought this season was on par with 1-5, I enjoyed it very much.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

David Aceveda is my favorite character. The unlikely alliance between the two nemesises made the finale for me. Light on action, high on drama. Great stuff.

I much prefer the drama of The Shield to the action as well, but for some reason this finale just didn't completely do it for me.

I'm hoping that 'truce' carries for most of the episodes (not just the first two or three) next season.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Loved the finale. Loved the alliance with Aceveda, loved the twist with Shane (and even loved the sadistic way they head-faked everyone with the editing of the previews, making the episode look like something very different from what we got.) They've got some great stuff set up for next year, which may just turn out to be "the redemption of Vic Mackey".

Regards,

Joe

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I don't understand why Corrine couldn't even try to call Vic. Shane said Vic wouldn't answer his call but that was because the idiot's name came up on Vic's caller ID. So Shane could have called from another phone or Corrine could have tried Vic's cell. Instead Corrine calls right to the barn causing Shane to toss the phone aside? All of this just seemed to force the opportunity for Shane to kidnap them. I just didn't buy that part of it.

Claudette has been woefully underused this season. I certainly hope they give her more to do in the final year. She always seemed much smarter than she came across this year.

I appreciated how they handled the Tina-Dutch-Hiatt triangle very well. I especially liked the class Dutch showed this year. His character has shown a tremendous organic growth since season 1.

The more Vic gets away with what he does, the more I hope the writers give him a just punishment in the end. These narrow escapes each season just make me want his exposure to come all the more. Maybe it's the moralist in me.

I could be forgetting something but I've found Vic to be 'flying right' since the money train. He definitely breaks the law in some fashion in almost every episode but I'm talking about crimes like ripping off the Armenian mob or killing cops. Of course, that doesn't clean the slate on what he's done before, I'm just saying that in the past couple of seasons, he's changed.

Shane didn't realize that Vic wasn't picking up because of Shane's name on the caller ID -- he assumed (and told Corrine) that Vic was "in the field" and not picking up for that reason.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I thought it was an excellent episode and overall felt this season was just as good as the previous two. I thought Glen Close and Whittaker were great in their roles from prior seasons, but nothing IMO beats the Vic vs. Shane story line.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Awesome end to an awesome season. This season was the best so far IMO. Loved the tension in the episode, my heart was racing the entire time.

I had read in an episode summary that Shane was going to kidnap Vic's wife and kid but I never would have imagined that he was doing it to save them.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

It was a very good episode, but not a great season finale. I actually thought last week's episode was much stronger and would've been more effective as a finale(Dutch seeing Tina and Hyatt, Shane dropping the dime about the money train, Vic getting the picture of Ass-invader). I think that episode had much more of a "cliffhanger" feel to it that this one.

As for the season overall it was good, but definitely not as great as last year. The first few episodes were brilliant, but once Kavanaugh was out of the way and Vic killed Guardo things got a little slow. I think Forest Whitaker raised the bar so much with his role that when he left it took a little bit of steam out of the show. Don't get me wrong, I still love The Shield and can't wait for next year, but I do think last season was better overall.

One thing I've never figured out, what exactly happened to Aceveda in that incident? (Partly because it was heavily censored when shown here.) Obviously he was forced to perform oral sex on the guy, but was he later sodomised as well?
