The Shield: Season Six

The Shield: Season Six starts on April 3. I assumed that would be the date since the S5 DVD is coming on March 27 but I was still hoping it'd be earlier.

Can't wait to see these 10 episodes!

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Thank goodness "The Shield" is coming back. I've been in withdrawls ever since the end of season 5 and I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to return. This is awesome news!

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Good to hear, but man they're really milking it. I'm curious where they can go with the story beyond these 10 episodes.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

That seems premature since you have no idea what these episodes are about.

I just said I was curious and I have my doubts. Hopefully the writers are good enough to come up with a new story arc to hold interest for an additional 13 episodes.

This is the last 10 episodes of the series... I think the last 10 are going to do with the down fall of the strike team and vic finding out who killed lem..

According to that article (and everything I've heard) there will be an additional 13 episodes in 2008 (season 7) after these 10.

Oh.. that is news to me.... I stand corrected.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Yes, there will be another season after this one and I, for one, am looking forward to as much Shield as we can get since it's one of the few great shows left on TV.

After watching the Wire, I don't know if I'll stay interested. It will have to be good.

That's interesting because I tried watching The Wire several times and was absolutely bored to tears with every episode. I keep hearing how great the show is, but from what I saw it's nowhere near as gripping as The Shield. Different strokes, right?

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, I love both The Wire and The Shield. But they're *very* different shows.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Yeah, I like both shows as well but for my money there has never been a better season of any TV show than the last season of 'The Wire'. But as Philip said, they are very different shows.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I know and I am happy they they are not running concurrently. As long as I don't have to compare them on a weekly basis, I am sure that I will be happy.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

According to the Stephen King interview over at AICN, it sounds like Frank Darabont is directing an episode of The Shield this year.
Quote:
STEPHEN KING: Well you know… What finally broke the gridlock with Frank was shooting an episode of THE SHIELD. Has he told you that story?

QUINT: I remember him telling me that he just shot so fast, that it was almost like a boot camp for directors.

STEPHEN KING: He says it’s “combat photography.”
All The Shield info discussed is up there but here's the link: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31707

I felt that way after I discovered The Wire as well. I just couldn't get back into The Shield for many months... I eventually clenched my teeth and finished S3. Now S4 was awesome. S5... was less so. I thought it was too focused on the IA stuff and too serialized. Weird complaint for me since I generally favor story arcs over stand alones, but this show was good at blending both before S5, IMO.

I absolutely loved season 5 and all the IA stuff. My biggest gripe with The Shield has always been some of the weak one and done cases you have to endure. I love all of the season long arcs like the money train, Antwon, IA stuff, etc).

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Yes, and Forrest Whitaker was absolutely AWESOME in his role. I thought he was a much better "guest star" for a season than Glenn Close was in season 4.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Why did watching The Wire make you less interested in The Shield? I haven't seen the Wire, so I don't get it.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

The Wire is just so real and they have taken the time to develop the characters of both the bad and good guys.

The Shield is more like very good entertainment, but you always know that it is TV. Good TV but still TV.

You don't have to suspend belief (at least I don't) when watching the Wire.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

It's going to be on the S5 DVD but Yahoo already has the S6 prequel up:

I'll probably just wait another week and catch it on the DVD.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Really looking forward to the season premiere tomorrow night. Just read a review over at AVS from someone who has seen the first few episodes of S6 and they said the show is still at the top of its game(especially the performances of Chiklis and Whitaker). Sounds like the show is still in top form.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I picked up the S5 DVDs last week and just finished rewatching the episodes and, goddamm, was that a good year! I knew they were great episodes but seeing them again, I was struck by how amazing Chiklis, Whitaker, Walton Goggins and Kenneth Johnson performances all were.

Here's to Season Six and don't forget to check out that S6 prequel.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Yeah, S5 was absolutely brilliant and one of my favorite overall seasons of the show. I think Whitaker added a major presence to the cast(much more than Glenn Close the season before) and I'm sure he'll be just as great this year. On top of that, I'm betting Chiklis will be extra intense due to the events that took place in last season's finale. This season is gonna kick ass!

Re: The Shield: Season Six

For me it was the other way around. I preferred Glenn Close to Whitaker though both are great in their roles.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

I used to go with Season Four as the better year becasue of Glenn Close and Anthony Anderson (who always seems to get lost in the shuffle but was awesome on the show) but I have to say that after rewatching S5, I'd call it a tie between the two.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Last night's episode was a good start to the year. Kavanaugh has really gone over the edge. No doubt, he believes that the ends justify the means though. I can't wait to see him get brought down (even if Mackey is a bad guy ).

All the stuff with Shane and his guilt was pretty good too.

I'm glad that Dutch and Claudette have some serious doubts about Kavanaugh's story. Maybe Dutch will be the guy to that inadvertantly saves Vic's butt from Kavanaugh.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

Great start to season 6. Dutch Boy asking to look at the highway video where Kavanaugh supposedly picked up the informant shows he's not too sure about any of this. Kavanaugh has definitely gone off the deep end.

Re: The Shield: Season Six

This season feels like it's going to be the most clausterphobic of them all for Vic, and Cleetus. Bring it on!
