Hello Kamla - a few questions for you:

1. What is your viewing distance?
2. What are the lighting conditions in your room?
3. What are your sources (e.g. Upconverting DVD, HD Cable Box, gaming console's etc)
4. Do you watch primarily movies, live action sports, etc?

Re: Help me Pick My HDTV.... Please

Ideal set for 7ft viewing distance @ 1080p is 52", so you're definitely on the right track. Also, it sounds like you have ideal lighting conditions. Have you considered purchasing a JVC D-ILA rear projection set, or a front projector?

Re: Help me Pick My HDTV.... Please

Kamla - DLP is Rear Projection, do you have the room for this set? Personally I would probably choose a 61" DLP over a 52" LCD, but that being said I would lean towards an LCoS set (such as a JVC D-ILA) over DLP.

Hi Verjinder

With all due respect to my good friend Alon Goldberg, I would get that Samsung 67 inch at Costco...please keep in touch...Alon Goldberg is an audiophile with a great deal of knowledge about a lot of things including computers and software and audiophile grade HT/AV equipment...most people regret not getting the biggest screen they can afford and can fit into their viewing room.

Audiophile? Not quite.. But I do love music.

I agree with Arthur, get the Samsung 67" DLP. Under your lighting conditions, size will make the biggest difference. Enjoy!

Re: Help me Pick My HDTV.... Please

There is no "best" when it comes to LCD, DLP, LCoS, Plasma and CRT. It comes down to individual requirements based on viewing conditions, lighting conditions, distance, and sources.

As for ideal distance, here are two good sources to read:

Hi

Just get that 67 inch Samsung DLP...you are better off with the biggest screen size your budget and viewing room permit.

Re: Help me Pick My HDTV.... Please

Microdisplay rear projection (DLP or LCOS) gives you the best picture quality at larger screen sizes at a lower cost than flat panel (LCD or Plasma).

Almost all DLP sets use a color wheel and single chip to produce the picture, LCOS sets use 3 separate chips and no color wheel--less to go wrong.

With the exception of a few Samsung DLP sets that use leds for illumination all microdisplay rptvs use a replaceable lamp. These usually last 3 to 5 years and cost $150-350 depending on the set.
