picture cut off at the edge on TV

Hey all. Here's the next issue I'm having with my new HTPC setup. As you may or maynot have seen from my previous thread I have the Svideo AV out going in to an RF modulator where it's distributed through my house. My problem is that I can't get the TV to display the whole picture. It is cut off at the sides. Maybe the top and bottom too I'm not sure. At the side it's deffinetly noticable as you can only see the "rt" portion of the start button. Also, there are black bars at the side where it appears the rest of the picture should be. My video card has an adjustment so i can shrink of stretch the picture to fit the TV screen. That takes care of the black bars but I'm still missing the actual sides of the picture itself where the "Sta" would normally live. I seem to remember that this problem exists due to resolution differences in TVs and computers, however I can't remember the solution.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Craig

What type of television do you have? If it's a CRT, it's probably just overscan.

Re: picture cut off at the edge on TV

One is a 720p Samsung DLP and the other is a 720p Sanyo LCD. The output from my computer is set to 4:3 becasue my main monitor is 4:3 CRT and I have the RF modulator/TV sets as the second monitor. I can't figure out how to get it to change the second one to 16x9. Anyway it doesn't matter because the Sat receiver I'm recording all of my video from outputs 4:3 so that's what I'm viewing anyway.

Re: picture cut off at the edge on TV

Does the picture itself seem compromised? The reason I ask is that if the video's from sat, than there's probably dead space to compenstate for overscan on the sides anyway. I believe all HDTVs have ways to manually adjust overscan.

Perhaps this thread would be better suited to Display Devices?
