I'm trying not to re-buy movies I already have on DVD. My 1998 Blade Runner DVD is so old I'm making an exception. Who am I kidding. I would have bought it anyway.
I was a combo supporter before having the HD player. Loving the whole "When I buy a new HD player, I'll just have to flip it over. $5-$10 more is so definitely worth it." Now I'm just "Why the hell should I have to spend $5-$10 more for a stupid DVD on the flip side" and "Why is this combo disc f&$*ing up!" The change in attitude was instantaneous.

So far the 2008 line up for HD-DVD is not very promising and is a disapointment overall. Over the past few months I have only picked up a handfull of HD-DVD titles. HD-DVD was the first HD format I supported but my HD-DVD library is not growing much anymore.

 So far I am not that impressed with what I am seeing for 2008. I have not seen Kodiac so I honestly can not say if it is a good movie or not, maybe its worth a try. White Noise was a good movie but that does not help with the lack luster releases schedule for the year. And I wish they would drop the trailer with the person saying lossless sound as the screen shows up to 7.1 channels. Most of the HD-DVD titles are lossy DD+ 5.1 and while the number of lossless titles are improving it is still a small precentage of the current HD-DVD library.

As one of the lone exclusive studios Universal should be leading the charge and IMHO should be doing a better job releasing top notch titles. I see little reason to spend money on HD-DVD titles this year. And while I really want to upgrade my HD-A1 because there is little incentive as far as software for 2008, the upgrade of my HD-DVD player will be put on hold. That is until other upgrades are taken care of and I might even buy a used HD-DVD player if the format dies?

I am just disapointed in what I see for 2008 so far.

Wow, some of you guys have gone all out for the HD-DVD titles!
I have a question first, One feature of the HD-A2 which I own that I am dissapointed with is the miniscule 'Persistant Storage'(128MB!!).
Anyone know how to expand the storage so you can download stuff for more than one movie at a time? Like using the two USB ports on the front of the machine. The free ones took 2-3 months to come but arrived as promised, there was some delay with supply and the better choices came out just after I got my player, dammit!

I believe that the fist generation HD-DVD players used 1 gig of PC memory. So if Toshiba continued to use PC memory you would think that you could theoretically upgrade the memory. Unless Toshiba turned around and started building the memory into the motherboard of the player. I would also be interested in knowing if the 2nd and 3rd generation HD-DVD players memory can be upgraded or not?
