ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

Thread Starter
Someone at dvdfile posted that these are now part of the upcoming list. There were links to an avs thread as well as to the hd dvd promo group website. Is this true? I dont have access to avs and I thought the universal guy stated there are no plans for any spielberg at this time

Listed on page 4.

It looks like the list they've had posted since mid-2006, with a couple of title and date changes/additions. IIRC, the Spielberg films have always been listed.

This version of the document is definitely new. Its creation date is listed as 1/29/2007 1:38:37AM in the document properties.

The document may have been updated, but various revisions of the list have been available at that specific link for months.

Here is a link to the HighDef Digest report.

I'd be a lot more impressed if a great deal of those movies hadn't been on the list for the last year, or if they had anything more than "TBD" in Japanese on them. I'm seeing a lot of people elsewhere yet again proclaiming Blu-ray's death since these titles are obviously coming out this year. Well, in January of 2006 the PRG list had Shawshank, the Star Trek films, Deadwood, and about 75% of the "TBD" titles from this "new list", and we haven't heard peep about them. Not to mention they've got several glaring errors, such as The Aviator and The Shining coming from Universal, when they're Warner films; or any New Line title when it's been stated they will be TotalHD.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

ET and Jurassic Park were released on MUSE (analog HD) laserdisc in the '90s, so it makes sense they would come to a digital HD disc sooner or later.

So Warner is doing combo discs now.

Never say never but I'd be shocked if Jaws, E.T. or Jurassic Park was released in the next year or two.

Jaws, ET and Jurrasic were recently added as of 1/29.

If true, this is VERY, VERY good news. Wow. All 3 of those are MUST buys. Combo/ultra Combo/Jurassic Park-Jaws Big Teeth Edition...who cares. ...I'm all over these.

If even one of those three films saw the light of day on HD DVD this year that would be a definite boost to the format.

I agree. I don't think there is any doubt that the list should be taken with a grain of salt given its track record. In any event these titles do appear to be new to the list.

Well thankfully we have people here that are more level headed than to use this news to inflame more war propaganda. That's one reason I try not to venture over to those "other sites". Too much negativity.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

If Jaws comes to HD, it'll no doubt be the killer HD app, in my opinion (until Star Wars comes out).

I don't know how much it means but Jaws was on the Universal HD channel this past weekend.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

Does anyone know how many DVDs those 3 Spielberg's have sold? I'm thinking the 2 Pirates BDs will dwarf the sales of those 3.

MAYBE on a percentage basis but by numbers, it wouldn't even be close.

One good thing about this format war is maybe it will force studios to release bigger titles sooner than DVD.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

So I wonder if ET will be the '82 cut, '02 cut or both.

Ironically while E.T. was a MUSE HD release (at a time when piracy, especially for HD was nil), it took a long time before it graced the SD DVD players.

E.T., great flick, but I don't think it's a killer app that's going to drive HD-DVD sales.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

Pirates 1 & 2 will certainly be huge for Blu-ray, but I think Jurassic Park, ET, and Jaws would be as well. I remember the days of laserdisc when JP debuted, then the dts version etc...then the dvds....they were the talk of the town and playing in nearly every HT store room. I think we'll see that again when the HD DVD comes out too.

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

Agreed. Jurassic Park with Lossless Dolby True HD?
I have been getting goosebumps just thinking about it for the last 2 days.
Great Movies, great demo discs. Can't go wrong.

Edit: how do I add the unusual smilies? I remember we use to have a list of them next to the text box. I also miss having the buttons for bold, spoilers and stuff. Is it a setting I can change?

Do you see them now?

(I changed the setting in your account from "Do Not Show Editor Toolbar" to "Show Standard Editor Toolbar". You can change that yourself too.)

YAY!!!

Yes I can. THanks Cees. I had gone to the contol panel but could not figure out the option to do so. thanks.

Been like this for months since one of the "updates".

Now if I can only figure out how come all my saved PMs are blank!

re: ET, Jaws and Jurrasic coming to HD DVD?

Rolando,

You're welcome.

Most saved PM were lost during the transition to the current software level. There's no way to bring the PMs you had saved during our previous software level back.
Sorry, but it happened to all of us.

You'd better delete the empty messages.

OK. And now back to the topic of this thread.....
