Mounting a plasma TV... wall or ceiling?

Alright, so I've acquired a 32" Sony plasma TV which weighs about 58lbs. I wanted to mount it on the wall above my computer desk on a swivel mount so I could move it around a bit to get the viewing angle right. Anyways, my house has metal studs (and about 20" apart instead of the usual 16") and my dad is reluctant to mount anything heavy on them, even with a 2x4 to spread out the weight among 2 or 3 of them.

We discussed the possibility of hanging the set down from the ceiling, but that would require a 6' pipe or so to get it down to a reasonable level.

Opinions, comments, suggestions?

I wouldn't mount it to the wall without contacting the mount manufacturer. If you don't have a mount omnimount makes a good wall mount, so do chief, and peerless. Look on their websites to try to figureout the mount you want and call them to ask about intalling on metal studs before you buy it.

It’s fine. My son’s a home theater installer, and they do stuff like that all the time. Typically you’ll mount some plywood to the wall, and the TV to the wood. If you’re really worried about it, drill larger holes in the studs and use moly bolts.

I wouldn't. If it was a flat wall mount maybe. On a swivel mount I would talk to the mount manufacturer first.

Seems like we're gonna go with a ceiling mount setup. any drawbacks to that?

We went with a ceiling mount...

We used a ~4 foot long ceiling fan tube and attached it to the studs in the ceiling. And we mounted a standard wall mount onto the tube using U-bolts. Heh, it worked
