Insert Links Question

Thread Starter
Whenever I click on the "Insert Link" icon, I get the prompt which asks me for the URL of my link. That's fine. However, in the past I used to get a second prompt that asked me of optional text to be displayed. I don't get that anymore. Thoughts?

Chu:

It appears since the 3.xx+ versions of vBulletin that option was changed. So if you use the link option and you put in the url. Go ahead and do so and what will get put in is [ url="http://yoursite.com" ] http://yoursite.com[ /url]
and you change the name after the first close bracket. This would be
[ url="http://yoursite.com" ]Your Site[ /url ]. (spaces removed)

Re: Insert Links Question

Or you can type the text you want ahead of time, highlight the text and then click on the insert link. The code will automagically create the appropriate tag.

...or you can paste the link into the URL box, click "OK" and the text of the link is highlighted in the posting window. All you need to do is start typing the text you want and click "post" and you'll be all set.

Re: Insert Links Question

Mike I think what Chu is referring to is when you want to have a hyperlink with a separate name like test as opposed to http://www.hometheaterforum.com.

Re: Insert Links Question

Yeah, Parker. That's exactly what I was trying to describe.

If you paste the URL into the URL box and click OK, the code puts the URL into the post box in two different places. The second time it is "selected" and if you simply type in the text...(such as "test" in your example above) it will replace the URL as the shown text.

If you don't type in new text but just click "ok" for the post, then you will have the URL posted as the link text (like the second part of your example).

It's just another easy way of changing the URL text into a description text like the way posted by David Williams.
