Somehow I had not realized that the French T2 HD DVD is a 2-disc version, one disc having the "short version" (? is that the theatrical version?), the other the Director's Cut. Both are 2.35:1.

Both have: DTS-HD Master tracks, in English and something called DTS-HD Hi-resolution in French, as well as French 2.0 on the first disc.
Subtitles are in French, and, surprise, surprise, in Dutch on the second disc. It doesn't say how long each disc version is, just once it says: duration 131 mins. I expect that to be the time of the "short version".

This is a more elaborate release than the BD (which I own too)!

All this is according to the print on the backside: it's still unwrapped. I will tell more about it soon!

Yeah, the shorter version is the theatrical cut.

Rather sensational, of course, is the fact that this HD DVD has DTS-HD Master, and on both discs.
The US Lionsgate version doesn't have that, no US HD DVD has it, AFAIK, and hardly any (if any at all) BD available inside the US, currently!

And we can't even check it, because we have no decoder!

Well, currently I'm contemplating a combo-player, perhaps the Samsung. I would have to import it (always a bit risky for anything having moving parts) and, also, I cannot trust getting sent upgrade CDs, so I need to know first if it can be upgraded on-line like the Toshiba ( ).

But when I do get a "region A" BD-machine, I'll tell you all about the comparison!

I'm finding it hard not to pull the trigger on Le Pacte des Loups.
I ebayed off my copy of the R1 disc last year in anticipation of the HD and the only thing that's causing me to pause is the rumour that Universal will be releasing a domestic version, probably around October at the latest.

Le pacte des Loupes is the 150 minutes + Director's Cut , regardless of what it says on the back covers . Good to see that even when launching a new hopefully money-spinning HD format studios still pay no attention to detail

I've had my copy of 'brotherhood of the wolf' for a week or so now, and
watched it the other night. It didnt occur to me that it was the EXTENDED
cut, becuase thats the only version i've seen. I assumed it was the
theatrical release, but when watching it, i didnt notice anything missing.

Got my dutch version of The Last Samurai in today and it has Dolby Tru-HD on it which the US release does not have.

Maybe fans of this movie would like to have this option
