RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

According to RCA's Dwight Sakuma, they will not produce HD DVD (or Blu-ray for that matter) players in 2007 until a clear victor emerges in the current next gen media war.

I wish I was that strong!
I felt the same way until we got the LCOS Sony XBR2 60" set in the house. A week later it was off to Xbox 360 land just so we could get the HDDVD player for HD viewing........sigh.
Even funnier, I think Blu Ray is the way to go.

I am not as strong on holding stances as I was when I was young.

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

Quit what? They never produced a player in 2006. The HDV5000 was a rebadged Toshiba.

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

Toshiba's only hope now is universal players...

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

Well since I've never seen an RCA electronics appliance that I liked/wanted, I'm not going to lose much sleep over this.

RCA had some great sets back in the 70's...

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

Didnt RCA make 78s? RCA and HT almost sound like a contradiction in terms. Almost like Ford saying it wont make anymore good cars.

Also LiteOn and one other major Chinese CE will be making HD DVD players.

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

As another poster pointed out, the RCA was nothing more than a rebadged Toshiba and (IIRC) the only retailers selling the players were Sears and Wal-mart. Perhaps they should been a little more clear and said that they are no longer MARKETING any HD-DVD players.

I wonder if anyone has passed this information along to Meridian and Onkyo since they have announced nothing. Maybe they don't know about it.

Re: RCA's Stance on Next-Gen Media: We Quit

I guess soon we'll see cars where a semi-transparent HD image is projected onto the inside of a 1.78:1 windshield with the help of a mini-projector mounted on the overhead console.

You want HD in car, well, you got it:

No, they don't project the image on the windscreen, they project it through the windscreen onto the inside of the open front hood.

http://avzombie.com/blog/2007/01/10/...-announcement/

Quote:
Meridian will not be releasing an HD DVD player anytime soon. So says brand spokesman John Bamford, who claims that he was surprised to read that the company had been announced as a hardware partner by the HD DVD Promotion Group during its Las Vegas CES press event.

“We’re interested in HD DVD, but we’re also interested in Blu-ray,” says Bamford. “Meridian has been helping the HD DVD group with encoding and technical issues but our involvement appears to have been blown up out of all proportion. If we were to launch an HD DVD deck it would not appear for years.”

It just keeps going downhill. And they say Sony exaggerates and lies?

Looks like Bamford was ill informed:

Looks like it is a little too soon to decide who is right and who is wrong. Let's wait for some official announcement from Meridian.

Good linky Larry.

My oldest brother would love to spend that kind of $$ on a Meridian. Crazy to me but he has the money and likes to get the expensive HT gear. Why?....because he can

And when he upgrades next year when an even better player comes along, he can pass that Meridian on to you.
