Some big news and rumors on The Police

This is according to Stingus.net. Its on the front page right now.

Quote:
30 years of The Police will see itself reflected in some exciting new releases next year, one of them being the mid 2007 release of The Police Around the World DVD. The Police in the East will be featured as extra with footage that was not included in both documentaries.

Also, Message in a box vol 2 will be released, including the remainder of the commercially released back catalogue, but this time really EVERYTHING, including the missing tracks from the previous versions.

Soon more news on these and some other releases.

Source: StingUs of course!

And take this one with a pinch of salt but...

Ok, don't shoot us, but is always fun hearing nice rumours, the latest one being that according to U2's stage manager Rocko Reedy, The Police are reuniting for a tour in 2007.

Also, on 21 December, the Viva German Music-channel reported that The Police will Tour the World in 2007 for a last Goodbye Tour.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

The Police Derangements that Stewart did are floating around the bootleg scene. Plus they got used in his recent documentry on The Police.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

Which documentary is that?

I actually thought they would despise the idea of working together again or has Sting's ego deflated to the point where he is once again a normal human being?

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

I'd always wondered, after Sting got ripped off by his crooked accountant some years back, if he would finally cave and do the money-spinning thing by agreeing to a reunion. He certainly seemed to do a fair number of money-spinning things that weren't exactly artisticially "sound" -- pimping Every Breath You Take and allowing it to be sampled in that horrible "tribute" to some slain artist, and singing back-up on said tribute, was IMHO a low point.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

eh. i might have been interested in the early nineties, but i don't really care anymore. sting is uninteresting, plus he got up on stage with sean puffy combs (as yee ming mentioned). ugh. and he let puffy remix roxanne some years back, too. blech. he's almost as obnoxious as bono.

From what I've been reading, expect The Poilce to make their reunion "official" live at the Grammys.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

I heard a rumor that they may be headling Bonaroo, but then again, it's only a rumor...

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

Eh, those Bonnaroo rumors have been unsubstantiated. For example, they had Pearl Jam headlining one night when they had already been booked in Europe on that date.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

I am surprised there are fans who don't want this. I mean, all three of them are still healthy and active, why not? I mean, better now than waiting until it's too late. I mean, we all admit that The Beatles was certainly a missed opportunity, do we not?

Let them skip the show. It'll leave better tickets for the rest of us.

When I was a teenager, we used to laugh at reunion tours thinking: "they are just in it for the money".

But I'm much less critical now. This isn't a doo-wop or oldies oldies act touring Holiday Inn lounges. These are 3 very talented musicians. I'm sure they will approach this very critically & produce a great show. (maybe even some new music).

The Eagles recent tour is a perfect example of how a legendary group can put on & deliver a top-notch show. I'm certain this will be on the same level. Now if only Pink Floyd would do the same before its too late.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

Sting makes Bono seem like Mother Teresa. And his act is so thin now, he's raiding the 16th century for material. Why not go back to the '70's and '80's (of the 20th Century)? Yes, I for one, like my Dowland 'un-stung.'

But would I pony up big bucks to see a Police show now??

You betcha.

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

This is great news except for one thing!! THE GRAMMYS???

I can't think of too many things that I'd rather watch less than the GRAMMYS. The Grammys is a joke to those who like the GRAMMYS. I guess I'll have to Tivo it, so I can quickly skip through all of the garabage being awarded.

Live 8 will be the closest we ever come to seeing that.

Me too, but the older I get (ahem), the more I want to see stuff like this. I was fortunate enough to see Floyd (minus Waters) before they stopped touring, so I'm really excited to get the chance to see the Police. I too was thinking about them creating some new music. I mean, Sting could use a shot in his adult-contempory arm. Let's be honest, the last good material he put out was "The Soul Cages" which I loved. As much as he'd like to think he doesn't, his career needs this.

Hey, at least it's nice to look at in HD and hear in 5.1!!! I think they've done a better job of doling out the Grammys to more deserving artists recently than in years passed. Remember the Jethro Tull/Metallica debacle??? Ugh...

Then you've never seen Floyd. You basically saw David Gilmore surrounded by some of the best session musicians in the world. Wright wasn't even an official member. He was brought in for 'leverage'.

Waters solo wasn't Floyd either, but it had a heck of a lot more substance to it than Faux Floyd. More intimate, soulful, and just plain cooler.

Yeah, Live 8 is the closest we'll ever get to a Floyd reunion. They just plain don't like each other.

Back to the Police....

I really hope we get a new album out of this.

actually, there's no better way to let the world know "we're back!!!" than The Grammys. You can only do so much heresay and yet there'd still be people seeing "The Police is coming to town in July" and scratching their head with "I didn't know they got back together?". But with the Grammy Awards, all throughout the world, people will know that The Police have reformed and that it'll be big. What comes to mind offhand was Kiss a number of years back appearing on there with Ace and Peter and complete with makeup. The reunion tour wouldn't have been half as known if not for that moment.

I suppose that you're right but I still feel very strongly that the Grammy's are an absolute joke and a pox on music. Unfortunately, there is no better way in the corporate controlled world of music that we live in. MTV is non-existant and radio is almost completely controlled by corporate interests.

That will be nice, but it's not enough to make me sit through 3 hours of torture. If I knew when they were coming on, I'd love it. (Odds are it will be near the end). I'll Tivo it, so I can scan through the garbage (unfortunately, my Tivo is not HD)

Wasn't Wright reinstated as a full member for "The Division Bell" album and Tour?

Re: Some big news and rumors on The Police

The Police are here in Vancouver right now practicing.

It's been in the local news for a couple of weeks now. Their equipment was seen being delivered to the rehearsal space and they've all been spotted around town.

Not a rumour

I thought he was already a full member by the time of Delicate Sound of Thunder and the Momentary Lapse of Reason album, i.e. back in 1987.

When Division Bell was first released, there was an interview on the radio while debuting the album and I remember Wright stating that he did record the final cut of the Momentary Lapse of Reason album, but did not want any credit for writing (why he wasn't pictured in the original release of MLOR as a member of Pink Floyd). It wasn't until after Division Bell was released when Richard Wright's picture was added to MLOR album.

Well, I guess it's now "official"...I've seen commercials for the Grammys touting the Police's reunion.
