Surprised there's no talk of Shout Factory releasing this in March. Was'nt MN from Universal? Surprised this got licensed out... can't wait to visit Chief Urulu on Terratupa.

"Ironside" is also being licensed out to Shout! Factory by Universal. I really hope this starts a trend of the majors getting into more licensing deals with the independents for older series.

Me too! There are so many series from the 1950s and 1960s we old baby boomers would love to see again that only stand a chance if they're licensed out.

SHOUT! SHOUT! SHOUT!!!!!!

You mean to say that Shout! has now licensed a 1960s tv property that Universal Studios Home Entertainment apparently doesn't have any faith in its marketability value?!

That's an interesting revelation! This also supports my (reasoned) supposition about some questionable vintage television shows that have been proposed for DVD release by the major distribution companies.

MCHALE'S NAVY (ABC 1962-66) was a very popular tv sitcom in its day also spawning two feature length colour produced motion pictures: MCHALE'S NAVY (1964) and MCHALE'S NAVY JOINS THE AIRFORCE (1965).

I have to wonder just what the quality of the actual masters that will be used for the video transfers will be like.

I have the first two season DVD releases of THAT GIRL (ABC 1966-71) but haven't had the opportunity to actually view them as yet.

Re: Mchale's Navy

Amazons listing shows that this set will be on 5 dvds. So good news, that it wont be the dreaded double sided discs.

Re: Mchale's Navy

It looks like Universal is finally acknowledging that the dvd-18 fiasco has hurt their image. I do think that has been a major factor in so many of their tv on dvd releases flopping. So now they are going through a third party so their name is not on the product. Unfortunately the marketing people thought they could put out junk and people would buy it.

Universal isn't involved. They sold the home rights to Shout Factory for this series and Ironside.

Re: Mchale's Navy

I hope that this is a trend that keeps up. I think that if major studios don't have enough faith in a series, they should liscense it out to a company that will give it a chance. I wish Fox would get a clue as to this. If they did, we might just get Room 222, Rhoda and Phyllis on DVD.

Re: Mchale's Navy

So do I, Brian, but for a different reason: Peyton Place is at the top of my want list, and Fox owns that, too!

Re: Mchale's Navy

BTW, Deep discount has this up for pre-order for $23.93, far cheaper than amazon.

Re: Mchale's Navy

Interesting on the Deep Discount price. Thanks for on-passing. I've pre-ordered this show. Loved watching it in syndication when I was a kid!
