Need a good 600+ CD rack

Looking for something just for CDs in the living room. I have about 600 CDs now that I've purchased over the last 20 years. Here are my top choices so far from lowest to highest price:

http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/EP5488032.htm
@ $0.11/CD

Pro: Uses more of the vertical dimension, inexpensive
Cons: Look utilitarian, stability(?)

@ $0.31/CD

Pro: Looks better than the rest, stabilizer feet
Con: Non-expandable from its 792 CD capacity; no slider dividers

@ $0.32/CD

Pro: Looks good. Is expandable though I'll probably never need it. Stabilizer feet and wall brackets
Con: Price

I never found any that I liked that would hold the many DVD's I have, so I am going to build my own.

Greg:

It appears that you like the metal racks. I had two bookselves built for me as I have around 1500 DVDs.

Another place to check out is one of our sponsors HT Market. They have a large assortment to choose from.

Re: Need a good 600+ CD rack

Thanks Parker but now I'm leaning away from metal racks. I've found a couple local bookshelf makers near the local college campus that make custom racks out of solid pine. About $160 for a 6ft h x 3ft w CD bookcase that hold ~1000 CD should do the trick. Plus its unfinished so I can paint it any color I like. My only quandry is whether or not to pay a bit more for a shelf with a false back deeper than the CDs for sake of stability or get a non false back one and anchor it to the wall.

I like having a solid shelf too for the added benefit of being able to front face a group of CDs from one artist. That way I can see the cover art for the kinks, clash, nick cave, pere ubu, roxy music, eno, dylan, pavement, wonder, ween, who, etc.

Why not store you CD's on a media server

and store your cd's?

or if you have a home computer with a network setup....
