New Christmas Album From... Well, Me.

After four years of "I'll do it next year," next year finally became this year. My new Christmas album, Under the Star, is finished. It's a limited run of home-made CDs for 2006, but I may go bigger for distribution in 2007.

I'd appreciate input from the many sound-minded guys around here. My studio is modest, but I'm generally very happy with a recording for the first time in my career.

I really enjoyed it. From one of your blog entries, I take it I'm a bigger fan of Christmas music in general--I *like* the Nineteenfortiesmas songs, as you put it. I also like most secular Christmas songs, though I insist that the bulk of songs on an album be sacred. If I had any plans to put out a Christmas album, though, I'd definitely take your approach: sacred songs, many of which are not heard on every album ever put out. I'm a fan of western music, and it's the same thing: there are hundreds of independent artists out there putting out CDs loaded with songs like Tumbling Tumbleweeds and Cool Water! That's great, and their versions probably sound nice, but I've got the songs. Hundreds of times over. There is a definite need to differentiate, and I think you've done it here.

Just had a listen to the clips on myspace....nice stuff. Just wondering if the people here are familiar with the Moody Blues "December" disk? Nice stuff for this time of year and a real nice rendition of Bleak Midwinter" to close out the album.
