This guy was compressing the hell out of music before ANYONE was asking engineers to do it. He mastered oasis what's the story which was one of the loudest albums ever at the time. Oasis themselves didn't have a clue about anything technical and certainly didn't ask for that. He did Prince; emancipation 96 and that wasn't on any major label and he also compressed savage garden who didn't write any loud songs and would not of wanted their songs so squashed and loud.
As for californication rick rubin is also to blame becuase he picked vlado's master but NONE of the other engineers compressed it like him ; in other words he did it to win the 'gig' but he wasn't competing with others who had done it(5 or 6 engineers had mastered it) so it was completely unneccesary. He has no integrity and clearly doesn't care about music at all.
I was also disgusted at Rubin who said 'i don't know if he's doing it right but his version wins every time'
