Re: Movies Not Available on DVD

Oh, yeah. I forgot about "if...". I keep hearing rumblings that it's going to be released on DVD but for some reason it still hasn't happened!

Re: Movies Not Available on DVD

Instead of making articles about making lists of which films aren't on DVD, why not make an article about the benefits of going multi-regional? Oh, wait, nevermind. The newspaper is called "USA" Today...
There are far more films on DVD released in other Regions, especially in NTSC display format, which are anamorphic and with extras to boot. But due to the narrowmindedness of many of the average consumer, they'll never know there're alternative solutions and options for various films.
I'm just wasting my breath and time even suggesting and beneficial type thing which is going multi-region. There's practically an entire planet filled with DVD's to purchase and why be limited to only one region when you could have it all? Well, depending on the price and what's available.

Re: Movies Not Available on DVD

Here's a couple I'd like to see get released. They are very obscure though.

The Wizard of Speed and Time (1989)
Gizmo! (1977)

On a visit to Australia earlier this year I spent some time browsing the video shops and rental stores. I was surprised by the number of NTSC DVDs available [dual-format players/TVs are common] and the number of multiregion and region-free releases. These were actual studio releases, not boots. I brought back a few titles I hadn't seen in the US and was surprised by their compatibility with R1 region code players. It makes me wonder whether the NA market is the only one where region-coded releases are the norm.

When was 52 PICK UP released? Checking Amazon, they only have an out of print R2 version.

You are correct. MGM has the rights to that, along with Hands of the Ripper, Vampire Circus and The Quatermass Xperiment.

Wiki says there are rights issues between universal and Miramax. Everything is on hold, including the planned movie with Jim Carrey. Maybe that's just as well, since Jim Carrey translates to comedy...most likely lame comedy. Hell, just put Will Farrell in it!!!

I was using a spreadsheet I put together using data from the Zeta Minor website.

Zeta Minor - Hammer DVD Guide Index

The rights to those films reside with Carlton, and whomever currently has the US rights to their catalog (presumably MGM, since they released Countess Dracula and The Vampire Lovers in R1.)

But you are correct that Sony has the largest catalog of unreleased Hammer titles:

The Camp on Blood Island (1958)
The Stranglers of Bombay (1960)*
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960)
Never Takes Sweets From A Stranger (1960)
Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960)
Terror of the Tongs (1961)*
Cash on Demand (1961)
Taste of Fear (1961)
The Old Dark House (1962)
The Pirates of Blood River (1962)*
The Damned (1963)
Maniac (1963)
Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964)
The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964)*
The Gorgon (1964)
The Brigand of Kandahar (1965)

*forthcoming on June 10th

Re: Movies Not Available on DVD

When will WB ever release the Richard Grieco classic "If Looks Could Kill"?

I'm surprised Disney hasn't tried cashing in on Patrick Dempsey's recent popularity and released "Run" in R1.

Wasn't TWO FACES OF DR JEKYLL released in the US by AIP under the title HOUSE OF FRIGHT?

Re: Movies Not Available on DVD

According to IMDb, you are correct, so it could belong to MGM instead of Sony. Columbia released the film in the UK, though.
