Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006 - Page 2

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

An ***AHEM un-named store*** in Central New York NY had Animaniacs Vol.2 on the shelf on Saturday priced at $31.99. Didn't pick it up since I figured there were better prices once Tuesday came. Guess someone jumped the gun by a couple of days...

Going to pick up the following this week.
Animaniacs vol.2
Pinky and the Brain vol.2
POTCDMC 2-disc

$$ is a bit short this week and next since I'm moving Friday. Hopefully I can pickup the Charlie Chan Collection vol. 2 in the next few weeks.

Now to place some calls to some people subtly reminding them that the Survivor and SNL releases would be great Christmas gifts.

Sorry, Anthony...but usually I reserve "Features Photo" status to the first season only of a series release. Survivor had its chance with its first release (what was that, All-Stars?). That's why I feel bad about missing SNL: Season 1. In fact, season 5 of 24 this week is the first time I've broken that rule. (Just goes to show you that rules are indeed made to be broken! )

Must've left that one in the vest pocket, Eric! Didn't "hop" tonight. But bought the wife along and we checked out separately!

Just a quiet reminder to Bonnie and other RoundUppers. The powers-that-be at the HTF don't like members pointing out stores that break street date on new release titles. It's a pretty strict rule around here. It's okay to report what you found...and how happy you are to have it...or how high the price is...but don't name names!

In the meantime, Bonnie. Good luck with the move. Get lots of friends to help...and I hope Charlie Chan finds you at your new home!

SNL should arrive at my doorstep on Tuesday, along with Seinfeld S7. Lots of DVD watching coming up for me this week.

I stocked up and am using the gift cards towards SNL on Tuesday, which ALSO gets me a $5 gift card! Now THAT'S a better deal than that darn Market Pantry Flavored Water deal from last summer! (that was for you Mike Frezon!)

4/12 for me

Friends have been helping take additional stuff to a private storage unit. Got an old friend of the family who is a professional mover bringing his crew to do the actual move. Thanks!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

You may want to check out Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at Overstock.com:

1-Disc (WS/DVD) $14.91 + $1.40 shipping = $16.31

2-Disc Special Edition (WS/DVD) $19.91 + $1.40 shipping = $21.31

OK, so the prices are nothing great - the price on the 1-Disc is higher than the B&M's in the grid and the 2-Disc is in-line with Amazon's pricing. The real deal at Overstock.com begins tomorrow (Tues 12/5 @ 12 noon ET):

EDITED - Oops, mixed up Overstock and Outpost.

I take it you mean "Overstock" and not "Outpost" in that last link title. I was getting confused until I realized you were still talking about the deals at Overstock.

Thanks for the catch Patrick. Post has been corrected. I must have been half-asleep when I posted that one.

Two years ago I got season 1 of 24 for $14.99 at amazon. Last year around this time I got seasons 2 & 3 for $19.99 at Best Buy. I'm hoping to get season 4 for around the same price this year. I can't get into the stores so it has to be an online special. If you wait long enough you get the price you want :-).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

Thanks Mike and Patrick!

Saw in the Costco flyer that they are selling Pirates of the Caribbean 2-disc version for $6 off until December 24th. So that should make it only $18.49 which appears to be the cheapest so far.

Lay's Potato Chips(on sale for 2 for $5)
Edy's Ice Cream(on sale for $2.22)
Gatorade 32 Ounce Sports Drink(on sale for $1 each)
Aqualine Sparkling or Splash 6 Pack of Water(on sale for $2.99).

A $20 coupon will print out at the register if you meet the $20 minimum. The Curse of the Black Pearl is pictured in the sales circular, but it is for Dead Man's Chest. It doesn't say if it's for the 1 disc or the 2 disc version, but I feel strongly that it'll be for the 1 disc version.

2 bags of potato chips, 2 cartons of ice cream and 11 bottles of Gatorade later and I'll have POTC for free come this Tuesday.

Whoa, I'm there, I have a church meeting to goto tomorrow after work and getting stuff on that list is absolutely will be consumed with in the week.

You also have to buy Robin Hood:Most Wanted Edition and the $6 is taken off of the combo.

I noticed the Disney's Robin Hood in the ad too but was thinking that it didn't mention the need to buy both. I'll definitely take another look. Thanks!

Noticed that Amazon.com lowered the price of the Frank Capra Collection to $37.47 today (37% off MSRP).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

I picked up True Life Adventure sets 1 and 3 at J&R in NYC this afternoon - Roy Disney was there to sign copies.
I ordered SNL: Season 1 at buy.com with GoogleCheckout - $30, shipped. Can't wait to start on this...
And I got in on the Oliver Stone deal as well... Spent a lot of money, but got a lot!

That reminds me. I heard a national radio ad today (on ESPN Radio) for DDD...for this sale. On the radio, they said it was a BOGO for Fox TV sets...but as you can see HERE, DDD has also included a number of film sets (MGM). Mel Brooks and Billy Wilder are both included, Charlie Chan, Gable, McQueen, Newman, Eastwood, Die Hard trilogy, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Temple, etc.

There are definitely some good deals to be had.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

www.dvdplanet.com/b1g1.cfm is having the same BOGO sale as DDD(DVD Planet is the sister site of DDD). Their prices are actually a little cheaper than DDD on some of the titles. Best of all though is that you can use the $10 off of $30 promotion through Google Checkout and they have free shipping on orders over $25.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

Excellent information, James.

=====================

For anyone who hasn't done it, I used the Google checkout for a purchase at buy.com recently...saved $20. Easy pickins'. Nice savings.

I'll second that easy pickins' part . . . and the best thing is that there is no limit on the number of times that you can use Google Checkout and get the discounts: $10 off $30 or $20 off $50.

I've made 3 purchases using the $10 off $30 and 4 purchases using the $20 off $50. The bummer for me is that Buy.com charges sales tax for shipments to California (and Maryland, Massachusetts, and Tennessee). And, if sales tax applies, it is calculated on the pre-Google Checkout discount total. Oh well, still a nice savings.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

Well...I wasn't going to get into it...but you never know if someone else might be interested...

I bought a HP Photosmart 8250 Photo Printer at buy.com.

Listed at $99.18
Minus a $40 mail-in rebate = $55.18
Minus $20 for Google Checkout = $35.18
Plus $0.00 for free shipping/no sales tax = $35.18 total!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 12-5-2006

Just a quick FYI - Google Checkout is only good on in stock items at DVDPlanet. So I can't get the discount on X-Files Season 1. Bummer.
