Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Any new information regarding this? I finally bought my set used the other day, and it has the old discs. Does Warner still even have the exchange program open?

I don't know much about early Dolby Surround soundtracks beyond basic facts, so I can't really say anything about how the dialogue was mixed. But I do want to at least get the new III disc for the commentary and the deleted scenes.

I really hope this Disc 1 thing gets ironed out. This is not the kind of thing I'd expect from Warner; they normally do exceptional work.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Is the disc art of the the individual "Superman: The Movie" 4-disc set and "Superman III" the same as the disc art of those titles in the Ultimate 14-disc set?

If not, is the disc art of "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman III" in the Christopher Reeve collection the same as those titles in the Ultimate 14-disc set?

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I think that the individually-sold disc art is the same as the disc art in the Chris Reeve collection. I have the Chris Reeve set, and the outer cover of each title included has the same art as the individually-sold titles, so I'm assuming that the discs themselves are also the same.

I'm not sure, but I believe the Ultimate set has it's own unique artwork on the discs.

It does but at some point they started using the regular cover art for Look, Up In The Sky.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Sorry for adding to this old thread again, but, after reading most of it, I am still NOT sure whether copies of the set being distributed and sold now contain the correct edition of both SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN III.

From the latest comments here, it seems that some people were fortunate enough to receive the set with all the correct discs when ordering online, while some other did not, even though they purchased it at a later date.

As long as I don't get some old copy from remaining stock of the first, flawed edition of the set, may I trust to get it right now?

Thanks for helping me clarify this confusing matter.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I also got my Chris Reeve set last June (from Amazon), and it did indeed contain the correct discs.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Thank you both for your replies. That puts my mind at ease... a little bit.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Your best bet is to go through standard online channels and avoid "Amazon Marketplace"-style merchants. That way you avoid the possibility of getting one from somebody still trying pawn off their first pressing versions.

Or the brick and mortar approach (particularly an FYE or Best Buy) is a good strong way of getting the better version.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I just now got off the phone with Warner and the rep said they are replacing discs to this day. Her info on her screen stated that defective sets are still "out there". She didn't even ask me for the UPC or anything.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Are there any reviews about this replaced disc? Any ways to tell for sure they are not the old ones?

Listen to the 2.0 Dolby track on Superman 1 disc 1. If it doesn't sound completely different to the 5.1 track your disc is deffective.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Whoops, that was not what I was going to ask. Sorry.

I want to know what's the date of the current R1 Superman - The Movie VOB files and the new dates from the replaced disc.

Just for the record.

And what are the labels of the discs. You might access both informations by placing both discs on your computer drive (from Windows).

I will give you my info:

BRZ / Region 4/NTSC - Superman - The Movie (Ultimate Collection - disc 1 where the movie is - Theatrical version *)

* Extended version not available on my set. Only available from the DVD edition released in the year 2000.

Label: SUPERMAN_THE_MOVIE

VOB date files: October, 10th, 2006

Soundtrack (from the movie): English, Dolby Digital 5.1, 448 kbp/s

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Well I don't have the original messed up disk (I assume its dated around July-August 2006) but I do have the fixed one so...

Label: SUPERMAN_THE_MOVE

VOB Date: December 5, 2006

Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 (448 Kbps), Dolby Digital 2.0 (192 kbps, 1978 Soundtrack), Dolby Digital 2.0 (Salkind-Spengler Commentary)

And for those who care, here is the Superman III information (although this only applies to R1)

Label: SUPERMAN_III

VOB Date: July 19, 2006

Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0 (192 kbps), Dolby Digital 2.0 (Salkind Spengler Comentary (192 kbps)

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I believe the original audio on the DVD is still wrong. I can't remember all the details off-hand. I seem to recall that the front channels have no separation. The laserdisc is probably the correct track.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

The dialogue was spread out more across the front channels on the DVD 2.0 track.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

But thats typical of all Dolby 2.0 tracks. Whoever told you otherwise is a hoaxer.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

There's more leakage into the left and right front speakers than is typical when Pro Logic decoding is engaged. The dialogue should of course come from the center.

Normally I would agree but it appears this kind of leakage is typical with Dolby mixes of that vintage. For example mute the center channel on Monty Python's Life of Brian. You'll notice the dialog is the same volume in the left and right and also the surround channels.

So the 2-disc Superman The Movie cd release from a few years ago (which I own) plus a bunch of inferior copies?

Eh, I'll pass.

I am not quick to judge. Ken Thorne's work on Superman II and III ranges from blatantly mediocre to just plain uninspired.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

It's probably best to wait to see what's in this set before passing judgment on it.

I agree carter.

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I'll get the CD set. I like some of Thorne's rearrangements in SUPERMAN II, and I've always wanted a soundtrack recording of Alexander Courage's SUPERMAN IV score. Easily the best score of the Reeve films(next to the first one, of course).

Re: Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Anyone can post here the label and VOB date files from the old STMV Ultimate disk? I don't have any R1 DVDs.
