I've actually seen the real first episode. After the first run of the series completed(with chopped up first episode), they started re-runing the series the day after, but instead of using the chopped up first episode, they chose to use the real first episode.

I picked up Escaflowne #7 and Evangelion 0:8 today, so since I already own Escaflowne #8 I can finally finish up both those series

I really want to watch them both right now, but as its 1:15am I can't really turn them up as loud as I like to.

I also bought the 3rd installment of Gasaraki. I can't get enough of that series

Ok, I just finished up EVA 0:8. Umm episode 24 was amazing, and episode 25-26 were certainly...original to say the least. As ambiguous as the last two episodes were it just makes me want the two movies more than ever.

I have a few questions about it that I'll probably post in the EVA ? thread. It's been almost an hour since I finished it up and I'm still thinking about it in a vain attempt to decipher everything that happened

Well, 25 and 26 are also known as "What do you do when you run out of money?" That's partially why they are so acid trippy. Luckily, End of Eva gives a much less LSD filled ending(OK, it's still a head trip, but at least it makes sense)

I have to admit that episode 24 was certainly an amazing episode! I was glued to my seat, and my heart was pounding like crazy.

I definitely agree with you there Andy. That episode certainly was one of the best in the series. The new angel was by far one of my favorites.

Is that 10/30 release date, which is also my birthday by the way, for the EVA movies the official release date?

Kaoru and Shinji are often the subject of yaoi(gay, prettyboy) doujinshi(fan comics)

That date for the movies sounds about right, but no official announcement has been made yet

So, I just finished watching the Tenchi OVA 1 and 2 (Ultimate Edition) and I want to start seeing the other Tenchi series. I need some help though.

Is there any particular order in which I should watch the two TV series and 3 movies in? I realize that some of it is an Alternate Universe type of thing, so I guess for that it wouldn't really matter. But maybe, someone could just tell me what the order that everything was released in? From what I've found out so far, it goes like this:

Tenchi Muyo OVA 1 and 2 (Ultimate Edition)
Tenchi Universe
Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love
.
.
.

This is where I get confused. When did Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi the Movie 2: Daughter of Darkness, and Tenchi Muyo Forever come out?

Well, that about sums up my question. But I've just thought of another one. I've heard rumours of a 3rd OVA coming out. If this 3rd OVA materialize's, I'll be in heaven. I 100% loved the first 2 OVA's, but thought that there could have been soooo much more. If the 3rd OVA takes place after the events of the first 2, I will be overjoyed!

Is the NGE thread going or should I post there?

(I'm only here for a bit, have to return to the con...I am working a bit...I hate working. )

Anyway, for NGE lovers,
Spoiler:

remember that Kaworu is the 17th Angel...there is one more angel after the 17th...and I'm not telling you who it is, you have to guess!

As for Tenchi Muyo 3rd OVA Series. Yes, there will be a 3rd OVA series that will continue the first OVA series. It was announced by the Japanese studio awhile ago, so it's great joyous occassion to finally get an ending to the first & original series.

And for those of you wondering who licensed Vandread for U.S. distribution, it's Pioneer U.S.A. Yep, so the rumors were wrong about Media Blasters having it. The series goes to Pioneer. (Psst, it is in their calendar which you can grab for free at the Pioneer booth at AX2001).
This also doubles for the Ah! My Goddess Movie and Petit Ah My Goddess TV series. Pioneer also has rights to those too for U.S. distribution. Rejoice!

I'll see you there tomorrow morning Kong

If you get this before tomorrow, which I doubt, I'll call you on your cell probably before noon. Hopefully we'll be able to meet up then.

I'm especially excited about seeing Escaflowne: The Movie and Blood: The Last Vampire. Can't wait

Just got back from the convention, and it was incredible. That was the first time I'd been around so many hardcore fans. For better or worse, I am no where near as devoted as some of these guys and girls.

But it was still AMAZING. I loved it I only brought $300 and spent every single cent. I bought the entire Trigun and the rest of the Outlaw Star series. Plus a few soundtracks, including an awesome Two-Mix Best Of CD, and several wall scrolls. All in all, it was an amazing experience.

I recommend going to a convention at least once in your life.

There's an anime convention (CN Anime) coming up in late august here in Toronto. I went to it last year, but it's not as big some of those US conventions. Plus, it's mixed in with comic/sci-fi stuff, which tends to dwarf a lot of the anime.

There is another convention that is all anime (Anime North) which I missed again this year I'll have to make sure that I make it to it next year...as I've heard it's a lot better.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it down to one of the US conventions next year.

I may be wrong regarding Tenchi, but I think as long as you've seen the OVAs and at least some of Universe the movies will make sense. I still haven't finished Universe (deliberately pacing myself through this - I love this show) and haven't coughed up for Tokyo which is by most accounts the weakest of the lot - if it has Ry-oki I'm in.

My Tenchi Movie 2 was kind of messed up, with some really bad interlace artifacts in places. 3 is a completely different pace, though is still kind of cool.

I also jus finished Nadesico, and man do I love that show.

Jeff,
I hadn't seen either Tenchi Muyo or Nadesico until I went to this convention. They played an episode of each back to back today. I absolutely loved Tenchi, and I thought the latter was pretty damn good too.

I also saw an episode of Your Under Arrest! and, to my surprise, I...uh...kinda liked it I know, I know it's hokey and pretty cheesy, but nevertheless I thought it was pretty funny. I think it might have helped that the crowd I saw it with was just eating it all up. They were just laughing out loud at nearly every joke. It was a fun atmosphere to watch a comedy in. It was the same for both Tenchi and Nadesico as well.

The only regret I have is that I never got to see either Blood: The Last Vampire or the new Vampire Hunter D movie that they were showing there.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Tenchi OVA! It is just so damn good, that it can't be missed IMO. As much as I want to get the other Tenchi stuff, it has to be put on hold.

Right now I have Gasaraki, Escaflowne, Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, and Nadia all started. (with how slow the release of Nadia volumes is taking, I don't really consider it "started" though). Gasaraki, and Gundam Wing all are having new volumes coming out this month, and Esca is completed, so it will be too much of an expensive month to start up on other Tenchi stuff.

Plus, with Akira(one of my favourite movies) coming out on the 24th...I'll be broke. Gotta have some money for the anime convention at the end of august, where I plan on picking up Oh! My Goddess.

Anyways, this post has gone on for way longer then it should have

HOLY SHIT! I just bought and watched disc 7 of Rurouni Kenshin. Those 4 episodes were the best yet! In my opinion they were right up there with the OVA. Man, I still can't get over how good disc 7 was...

So, disc 7 is the start of the Kyoto arc...not a bad start at all. I hope that the rest of the Kyoto arc is just as good. I'm assuming that there will be more comedy throughout it (as there was virtually none in disc 7), but if the storyline keeps up at the same level I will be in heaven.

I watched the first episode of the Kyoto arc at Anime Expo. There was a ton of comedy in it. At least all the Japanese people around were laughing pretty hard. Honestly, being around that many hardcore fans makes any semi-good anime show enjoyable. I laughed out loud at some of the stuff too.

I'm pretty sure it was disc 7: Legend of Kyoto or something like that. I mean I didn't exactly see which DVD was put into the player/projector system in the back of the room, but the Kenshin WAS in Kyoto for what was implied to be the first time since, I'm guessing, the OVA's.

At the end of the last episode of disc 7, Kenshin leaves to go to Kyoto. So, I think you must have seen disc 8, because he is actually in Kyoto in that disc...he's still in Tokyo on disc 7. Plus, if you were laughing throughout the episodes, then it definately wasn't disc 7

What did you think of the Kenshin TV series though Joe_C? Only seeing 4 episodes is really not enough, but what was your first impression?

Andrew

Ps, Joe_C, now that you've bought the entire Trigun series, you'll have to let me know what you think of it, once you've completed watching it. I've seen nothing of it besides the last episode (grrr), but I'd like to know what you think of the series.

Thanks

I actually really, really liked the series. I honestly didn't think i would for some reason. I think it was more that I was HOPING I wouldn't like it because that way I wouldn't be sucked into buying a 24 DVD series I don't know what to do now...

Yeah of course. I can't wait to start that series. But there's a little bit of a problem. I now have the complete series for both Trigun and Outlaw Star. I don't know which one to start -- I don't want to start both

I'm in the middle of Gasaraki right now so I only want to get into ONE more series.

Could you guys vote on it for me? Should I watch Trigun or Outlaw Star first? Thanks a lot.

Hmm, my vote goes for Trigun Mainly because I have no interest in Outlaw Star.

But seriously though, Outlaw Star is a shorter series(I think), so I would say to watch that first.
-----
I was a little scared when I came home with the first disc of Kenshin TV. Because I knew that if I liked it, I would have to buy 22/23 more disc's. I'm up to disc 7 (8 should be out soon), so it looks like I'm stuck getting all 23/24 disc's. Oh well

I don't know why I even asked for a vote. Half hour after I asked for one, I ended up just watching Trigun. I don't know how to put this...the show did not exactly match up with my preconceptions for it

Vash is at times the coolest looking anime protagonist I have EVER seen, and at other times he's easily the weirdest and dorkiest. It's kinda odd. For some reason I pictured him as this Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop) type badass.

The humor is very Japanese (aka over-the-top ), and surprisingly I absolutely loved it. I found myself laughing at many scenes that I previously probably would have just groaned at.

Like I mentioned before, going to Anime Expo and watching numerous comedies in a row with a room full of hardcore anime fans (many of who were Japanese speakers), really changed the way I look at some of that stuff. I don't know why either.

The thing is, it's not any more "over-the-top" than any Chris Farley movie -- it's just animated.

The first disc went by EXTREMELY fast. I was almost shocked when each episode came to an end in what seemed to be only a few minutes. I was enjoying myself so much.

I watched both the subtitled and dubbed versions of the first disc, since I heard that the dubbed version works really well for this series. I'd have to agree with them. Vash's English VA as well as the VA's for both Millie and Merryl(sp?) were all very good.

The production values aren't as high as say, Cowboy Bebop, but the animation and sound were still very, very good. I can't wait to finish up this post so I can go and watch the second disc (I was at work all day).

Based on the first disc, this series comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Oh damn you Joe_C! Now I have to go out and buy Trigun

Well, I'm glad you liked it...I personally wouldn't have taken the risk of buying all 8 disc's at once though.

Hmm, as much as I want to start up a new series, I honestly can't. I'm just way too overwhelmed with everything else I have started already. (Gasaraki, Kenshin, Esca., Gundam Wing, Nadia) Luckily though, I've previously seen Gundam W and Esca., so I don't have to buy the disc's right on release.

Coming soon is Oh! My Goddess... I can't wait! Plus, Akira comes out in a couple of weeks. This is probably one of my favourite movies EVER. I can't wait for it to arrive in my local anime store.

I've been reading, but you're talking about series that I hate Kong should be back tomorrow, I'm guessing late afternoon.

The only announcement I saw out of AX that intrigued me in the least was Char's Counterattack being prepped for DVD. IMO that's a mistake, given that it shouldn't be released until at least midway through Zeta Gundam when

Not that I'll MIND having it on DVD

Well, I just rewatched the OVA's of Kenshin, cause I love them so much, last night, and I watched disc 7 of the Series today.

All I can say is wow. I know many people had told me not to watch the OVA's before watching at least the Kyoto Arc, but I don't know why. It's not like anything was mysteriously revealed because in the OVA's.

I'll agree, Disc 7 was the best disc of the series so far, and it cleared up a few things for me too
Spoiler:
like who the new assassin was who took over for Kenshin (Shishiro). In the OVA, they didn't tell you who that was.

I'm really looking forward to getting Disc 8, which should arrive at my house tomorrow, along with the first disc of Orphen, which Chris Beveridge has been giving very positive reviews of for the first two discs.

I really, really want Noir to come out though. Dammit. Is there a FanSub for this series?

From what I gather Chris

Spoiler:
Shishiro came about after the events in the OVA. When Kenshin went on the massive "killing spree". Shishiro was around when Kenshin was being called the Butosi(sp?), but Kenshin did not yet have that title during the events in the OVA.

That's how I understood it anyways.

I think I'm going to go see if I can find disc 8 today in some stores.

I'm still recovering from all the AX news. There was a lot to get excited about, and the next year or two will have a fascinating variety of releases, ones that will open the eyes of many if they dare try.

I think Media Blasters needs one more big A-class title and it will establish itself as a major in the domestic distribution chain. Kenshin really shot them up, and Berserk puts them teetering on the edge, but one more thing really needs to make their library more enticing.

I've spent a good part of the weekend watching stuf, trying to catch up. It's not hard to find me, I generally update the site several times a day on weekends with reviews and tidbits, contests and the like.

Original Dirty Pair was fantastic to see. I love this show.

Getter Robo continues to not really enthrall me.

Orphen was great, I wanted more episodes when the disc was over, which is a good sign in my book.

We also watched Sorcerer Hunters Vol. #3 last night, which is finally starting to get a bit more interesting, but still has more fillerish episodes than I care for.

I'm too broke to be reading this thread! Having just lost my job, I'm debating getting the Macross box anyway, I'm only up to disc 3 on Eva, and can't afford to start Nadia, Bebop, Trugun or much else. Thank God for review copies - unless they start out with disc 2.

I'd agree that Getter Robo leaves me in WTF mode most of the time. What I am looking forward to (hopefully) is Dirty Pair and more Sorcerer Hunters.

And then there's Pioneer with their damn limited edition inserts... I'm still missing finger puppets for Tenchi Universe. Grrrr.

Last night, in one sitting, I watched Trigun discs 2, 3, and 4. I loved it that much. I don't know what everyone was complaining about, saying that the series was too slow in the beginning. The first half is obviously there to just flesh out the main characters a bit.

In disc 2 we finally get to see Vash use his gun, disc 3 introduces us to Wolfwood, and disc 4 shows us some of Vash's true nature.

At this pace I'll finish up the series by tomorrow or the next day
