Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info (merged)

Hey gang!

Not really a RoundUp. This info is courtesy of THIS ARTICLE in homemediaretailing.com that is currently running on the splash page of the HTF. The HMR reporter, in turn, gives credit to fatwallet.com and bfads.com.

I thought I'd post it here where most bargain hunters might see it...and give anyone the chance to add to it who might have some more info. I am only including software info. But, the complete article also goes into various DVD/TV hardware deals that will be around.

Great, thanks again Mike. Wish some HD-DVD titles were there.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

I wonder how early one has to be in order to be an "early bird shopper" at Circuit City. I think I'll swing by the store and ask, since the website says individual stores will set their own hours during the holidays.

The other thing I am dreading is how disorganized Circuit City's DVD section is... could have people tripping over each other searching for things.

That is a good question. I went last year and I remember within an hour they were out of what I wanted.

Thanks for posting Mike!

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

I don't even bother with these black friday deals since they usually only have 10 or 12 of the sale items. Unless you camp out overnight, you may as well forget it.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

Honestly, it would take big ticket items to get me out on Black Friday morning. These DVD prices...while there are a couple of okay bargains...just wouldn't ever make it worth it for me.

I'd have to be in the store for something else...pick it up...and then hope for the best.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

Thanks for the detailed update. Looks like there's an error in the original message where it says Season Two of Grey's Anatomy will be $8.99 at Circuit City at 5AM (early bird). Everything else says it is Season One, which makes sense since that was inexpensive to begin with.

(Admin note - now fixed)

Looks like I can skip the waking-up-early.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

I mainly just pick up the cheap stuff to hand out to co-worker as X-mas gifts (they draw numbers and they pick in order of the numbers, and just pick from a big grab bag of DVDs (usually 3 cheap DVDs, or 1 cheap season set, what doesn't get picked goes back to the store). I don't see much that I need for my personal collection this year, so it's going to be just X-mas gifts for the most part. I may pass out a few Office Space SE's too.

Todd: Check out the first link ("this article") back in my first post. It will take you to the whole article. As I explained, the whole article also includes hardware deals that I didn't include in this thread because it was in the software section. You'll find your Wal-mart info there. Also, check out bfads.com for more Black Friday info.

Thanks, Scott.

And interested shoppers should check in often...because ads get posted up...and then removed. Up...and down.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

Thanks Mike!

In the past this kind of information was usually very hush hush and sites that publish it usually got threatened with legal action. Are retailers so desperate for sales this year that they've lifted the veil of secrecy and allowed mainstream sites to publish this information?

Steve: A quick check of bfads.net shows that they just pulled their best buy info from their site because of concerns about legal action. But most of what they've put up continues to stand.

I know that posting up bf info here at the HTF has, understandably, always been frowned upon for those same concerns. I only reprinted what homemediaretailing.com has been running over the past few days.

I wonder if your comment about concern over sales may not be accurate. bfads.net has certainly been under a heckuva lot more pressure than what they seem to be seeing this year. Fatwallet.com has an entire "Black Friday" button at the top of their home page which takes you to forums concentrating solely on individual retailer's deals. It seems as if the bugaboo surrounding the situation is becoming less of an issue.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

I would think the retailers would be grateful for the free publicity.

But the info does seem to be much more accessible/available this year than in the past.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info

J&R sent an email out to people on their list about their "black friday" DVD sales.

There are some nice deals on the webpage their email links to.

Last year all of Circuit City's Black Friday DVD deals at least were available online as well, so I did my shopping from the couch and got free shipping as well

Sort of surprising to get an email today from Best Buy with the Friday ad and unpublished specials. Guess the secrecy is not so tight everywhere this year.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info (merged)

Bizarre that the Best Buy info got pulled from BFAds. I got it in a BB email too.

Store craziness varies widely. Last year I went into Best Buy and it was a madhouse (A MADHOUSE!). Then I walked over to Target and it wasn't so bad (got everything I wanted there, fairly late in the morning).

One guess as to who did NOT get a Best Buy e-mail with the BF ad info!

Thanks, Marty, for posting the link. Weird that they are posting it up themselves...but won't let the bfads.net folk post it there.

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info (merged)

I got Costco's weekend coupon book tonight and there appear to be ZERO specials on DVD's beyond what they already have running, such as:

Early seasons of Smallville, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill for $14.89/each.
Buy Ice Age 2 and one other from selected titles and get $6 off.
Buy Seinfeld Season 7 and any other season and get $15 off.
Get $2 off selected Christmas titles (reg. price $10.99 each, includes Elf, Christmas Story, Bah Humduck: A Looney Tunes Christmas, etc.)

They are offering FREE shipping on DVD's from Costco.com.

Also, they appeared to have quite a few complete season sets that are likely at very good prices. I saw Friends, West Wing, Alias, MASH.

Other weekend coupons include:

Vizio 42" Plasma HDTV for $999.99
HP Pavilion 17" Wide Notebook Computer $899.99
Philips 50" Plasma HDTV $1999.99
Kodak Easy Share Digital Camera (7.1 MP, 3x optical zoom, 2.4" LCD) $149.99

The general concept for the sales this Friday seems to be "DVDs that are already often on sale for cheap, will be on sale for cheap".

Re: Weekly RoundUp: Black Friday Info (merged)

I recently got a laptop at Walmart a couple weeks ago, that was going on sale at 12:10am on Sunday. Not a major event, not Black Friday, etc.

Well I got there at 11:40pm and got slip number 30 out of 39 laptops they had.

Like others have said, for tomorrow, unless you plan to camp there tonight, fuggehdaboutit.
