Re: Halo 3

It'll likely launch fall '07, but your guess is as good as mine.

Re: Halo 3

I've had no problem. Played online last night with a buddy, no lag, excellent performance. The overall control and gameplay is much improved. Will play some more tonight.

Re: Halo 3

I don't have an Xbox360, and probably will not get the chance to play the game all the way through. I have played the first two to completion. I've read several reviews that just trash the last level and say it is absolutely awful. Can someone describe to me (IN SPOILERS!!) what they are referring to, and what is so bad about it?

Re: Halo 3

Jeff- what reviews are you referring to? Every review I've read has been glowing.

BTW, if anyone really enjoys online multiplayer, but sucks as bad as I do, look me up: dbert721. I'm a mid-40's casual gaming dad who gets smoked by all the experienced assassins out there, and I'm looking for some folks more at my level.

Re: Halo 3

From the Yahoo! review ...

Quote:
The game's end sequence, to put it mildly, is an eight-car pileup. Fans of the series will recognize it as a poorly veiled swipe of a sequence in the original Halo, a challenge highlighted by a series of goofy circumstances and improbable level design meant to create an explosive end. The end result, however, is fairly absurd, as the whole shebang reeks of game developers wracking their brains to come up with the cleverest, most exciting finish, and shattering the fourth wall in the process.

From the IGN review:

Quote:
Most of the nine levels are hunky-dory, but the penultimate chapter is so bad, just thinking about it puts a rotten taste in my mouth. It's the kind of level where, if playing through Halo 3 again, I might just stop once I reached it and not bother finishing the skirmish, much less the fight.

Re: Halo 3

Hmmm... that's the first I've heard of these gripes. I'm still stuck on the beginning levels, so I hope someday I'll get there to decide for myself!

Re: Halo 3

Woo Hoo, my friend and I finished it last night on Heroic. On to Legendary!!! If you have someone to play the campaign with you it really helps as you can coordinate your efforts better than the AI companions. We also found all the achievment point skulls. While the last level is lackluster, it is not horrible. If anyone wants to campaign look me up Drunkenmaster85

Re: Halo 3

I'm just about finished on Legendary.

So far reason, probably a personality quirk, I always start on the hardest setting. I figure I want the get the most out of it right from the start.

After I finish I'll go back and try to find the skulls.

Re: Halo 3

Patrick, major props for the Legendary campaign. For those who are looking for the skulls you need to be pretty good at grenade jumps. (Which I was not good at in the least.) Or you need to have a team mate to do some double jumps.

Grenade jumps! That pretty much means I stand no chance at getting the skulls useless I developed that skill.

I'm impressed that you have found all the skulls. I just wasn't any good at it in Halo 2. Once I complete the game I'll have to go back and try see if I can find them in Halo 3.

The good thing since I'm so bad at finding them and need to develop the grenade jump it should result in hours and hours of additional play since I refuse to use a guide.

I'll get my monies worth out of this one.

Re: Halo 3

I found 2 of the skulls by accident when playing the game through on Normal. My friend and I made an effort to go looking for the skulls when we played on Heroic. It took us about 15 hours to play the game through this way way, but it was fun looking for them.

I did not make any effort into looking for the skulls on Halo 2, but it seemed to me that they were much easier to find in Halo 3. One of them you don't need to double jump or grenade jump if you have a vehicle. But there is one where a double jump or grenade jump is a must.

Good luck to all of those that are looking for the skulls. If anyone wants a hint, i am willing to help, but whith a little looking they are not that hard to find.

Re: Halo 3

I finally finished on Legendary last night. When you finish on Legendary it automatically gives you the achievement for finishing on all the difficultly levels. I would think that they would have made you earn them other two since getting the 1000 pts points is goal for many people.

Now it is on to finding the skulls.

Re: Halo 3

I'm half way through Legendary but going work out of town I have found one skull but cant figure out how to reach it. What is the best way to grenade jump I have never done that.

Wow, that's impressive Patrick. I'm still working through on normal (one level to go). Though I have to say that I agree with them deciding to give achievements for lower difficulty levels (if you beat it on a higher one without already having completed the lower difficulty). Some games don't do that and its such a pain in my opinion. If you beat it on hard difficulty, I would assume that completing an easier one would be a given.

Re: Halo 3

Thanks Mike.

I'm now going through it on Heroic trying to find the skulls because getting the achievement points so addicting.

Seriously I doubt I'll be able to get the 1000pts since I'm very poor on-line but I'll give it a try.

Re: Halo 3

Through a lot of trial and error, the best advise I give anyone on Grenade Jumps is practice.

Frag Grenades have a larger blast radius, so they will push you up higher, but as they bounce around alot you have to throw them against something and time where they will go off.

Stickys are nice because they usually stay where you throw them, but they do not have as large a blast radius.

All things being equal, the difference in blast radius is not that big between the two and I have used both with the same amount of success.

For those who have never done a Grenade Jump, it is as follows.

Throw a Grenade on the ground as close as you can to the ledge of where you want to get. Time it so that you jump directly above the grenade just before it explodes. If you time it right you should be at the peak of your jump (or close to it) as the grenade explodes and it will then push you up a bit higher. You will take some damage from the exploding grenade, so make sure you are not under fire while doing this.

Double Jumps. For this you need to have a non AI companion. Jump on to the head of your companion. Have him jump, and at the peak of hs jump, you also jump. This allows the person on the top to reach a height of twice as much as usual.

Hope that helps. Look everywhere, and try to climb on every thing. Sometimes, you need to venture off the beaten path.
