It's still shown on some sites such as the below examples but who knows if their websites are up to date. I had a heck of a time getting Yes "Fragile" on DVD-A (finally someone mailed it to me) as it was still listed on various websites but not available on the ones I tried:

I was able to find a copy at my local CD shop yesterday... looking forward to the chance to listen to it.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I don't understand what this package is.

DVD-A...these are CD's, right? They'll play in my CD player?

***
is anybody else disappointed in the DVD content of this package? The fact that they've left off many great TV appearances, such as Light My Fire from The Jonathan Winters Show and People Are Strange (the complete set) from Ed Sullivan?

Plus, on YouTube, I saw a short interview with Jim Morrison in 1970 about his thoughts on his trial. Morrison looked great - short beard. Its archival footage such as this that I'm wishing to get on DVD, and they just won't release it!

Maybe Soundstage Performances II will come out in 2007.

***

Back to Perceptions - is the sound quality of the songs better, worse, or the exact same as what was on the Complete Set that was released a year or two ago? I'm looking for the Ultimate Light My Fire sound quality.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

Each of the studio albums has a separate DVD-A and a separate CD disc. The DVD-As will play on a DVD-A or DVD-V player but not a CD player.

Every DVD-A player I have has the option to change the player to recognize the DVD-V portion of a DVD-A. It is different on each, but I have never seen one that can't do it. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Denon DVD-2200 but as Jeffrey R states, it should be a menu setup option.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

Very good to know that I can now utterly ignore this particular release, as I have no inclanation of upgrading any home theater equipment just to satisfy one artist with an un-dead icon as a frontman.

I love the doors to death - but this will not do. No, this will never do. I want the highest quality CD's that can be - and they're out there for old bands, I've heard em, I've seen em! One-Hit wonder bands have gotten better treatment than the doors ever did (unless the Complete Box Set is that great, but I think it could be better). I want the best, but not the next best technology in order to hear it.

In short, give me the best with what I got, as I know it can be delivered. If Paul Revere and the Raiders can sound superior, then so can the doors.

Plus, release the unreleased, already, will'ya?! We've only had to wait 40 years!

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but aren't all the CDs remixed as well? They won't sound as good as the DVD-As but expecting them to is like demanding a DVD look as good as a high definition disc- it's not possible.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I think your right Travis. I would have to check, but I'm pretty sure that Botnick comments in the liner notes of the first album that it's the first time it sounds right on CD.

I'm very pleased with the set. The DVD-V 2 channel and DTS both sound fantastic on these discs.

As Far as the viseo content, they're special features, not the main course.

My friend Steve Guttenberg (audio reviewer, not actor) raved about this box set tonight and he's very selective. Just moved to the top of the list.

Whatever is left on store shelves or in stock at internet retailers is what is left as all 20k copies were sold.

Some of it, haven't viewed it all yet.
The Soft Parade DVD could have better labeling. It list the videos as "Tell All The People" and "TSP". Actually, one of those is a 9+ minute medley that includes "Whiskey Bar" and "Back Door Man". It's a terrific soundstage performance without all the "cops throwing hippies off the stage" crap.

I am not really a Doors fan but this box set is really first rate. An inexpensive DVD-A player like the LG DVB418 which can be found on eBay for about $70 refurbished with warranty delivered and can play the stereo and surround. Definitely worthwhile and I bet there are other artists with DVD-A releases you might want to own. I like CD, but once I purchased my first DVD-A and SACD titles, I mostly listen to those formats at home and CD on the road.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

Here is another attempt to cash in on the rare DVD-A market:

No active auction links, please! - CA

I think this seller may have been the one that picked up about 3,000 discs from Circuit City from an eBay auction a year and a half ago or so for about $5 a disc. If I think about it, I might see if that was his source for these titles.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

Well, there's *some* hope for individual releases...

Just got this update from my Rhino contact:
Quote:
The double-disc versions of the Doors albums will probably come back in print at some point in different packaging from the "Perception" box. Right now we're just releasing single CDs of the expanded albums.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I downloaded from Amazon what is called "2007 Remix Albums," not so much "Perception," but I assume they're the same?

well, here's one opinion I have since listening to the 2007 remix of the album Waiting For The Sun, specifically the second track - Love Street, which is a type of Doors song you listen to in private because, if any of today's hip-hop crew heard you listening to Love Street, they'd think you as having teh gay. Anyway, somebody is now whistling along to Jim Morrison's "LA LA-LA-LA LALALALA LA-LA-LA LALALALA" at the end.
...who gave that jerk, whomever it is, permission to add his whistling to Jim's gay little moment?

on the same token, Summer's Almost Gone was amazing! The remixes truly have both good and bad elements.

On The Doors album, Light My Fire is now "sped" up to its proper speed (which is faster), and at first it sounded like someone playing with the speed of a record player...it sounded fake at first. But upon second listen, it sounded phoemonenal! the version we all know and love clocked in over seven minutes. This new version (which is really what they intended all along) clocks in around 6:56 or something. But now you can actually hear and appreciate John Densmore's drumming!

There's a [to me] brand new intro to The Soft Parade song, a little melody of Jim reciting something, very nice. Was this excluded in the past for a reason?

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I bought our oldest son The Best of the Doors [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] earlier this month. He really seems to like the band, which is great. For me, it was great hearing some of my favorite tunes again (People Are Strange, Riders On the Storm, Roadhouse Blues, and The End). My favorite of that band has always been Manzarek. He did some fine work on their recordings.

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I can pick this up, brand spanking new, for $65 (the store actually has 2 copies).

Should I?

Have all the DCC Golds already...

Re: The Doors - Perception CD+DVD-Audio Box

I don't own the set and I'm not a Doors die-hard but $65 is about what I'd be willing to pay for it.

For the probably few HTFers who don't mind digital downloads, you can get the whole thing (audio-only obviously) from Rhapsody for ten bucks.

I'd buy it for 65 bucks.

I bought it for about that much. The packaging is neat but a bit much, but I think worth it.
