Holy crap! I never expected that to happen. The monster has been tamed. "Rampage" is for real.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

I sum my thoughts up like this. I'm not surprised Rampage won, I just can't believe that Liddell lost. Those statements seem to be in opposition to one another but they're really not. There was a good chance going in that he would win, and I knew it. I just can't believe that I actually saw a Liddell loss.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

The Ultimate Fighter on thursday did a 1.3.

Noah Thomas Vs. Marlon Sims (the street fight participants) will take place on the 06/23 TUF Finale in an actual bout.

A reminder, the World Extreme Cage Fighting debut on Versus is sunday at 9:00 PM ET. The WEC is the promotion bought out by the UFC late last year. The WEC features divisions you see in the UFC such as Light Heavyweight, Middleweight, Welterweight and Lightweight. It has no Heavyweight division and also features Featherweight (145 LB) and Bantamweight (135) divisions. It will be a good chance to see some of the smaller fighters you'll not see in the UFC. Main Event for Sunday is Chance Farrar Vs. Urijah Faber for the Featherweight title. You will also see some familiar UFC names if you watch the WEC long enough including John Alessio, Mark Hominick, and Joe "Diesel" Rigs. I'll be doing live coverage of the show Sunday Night.

It is definitely a stacked lineup.

06/01 WEC news and notes
I'm going to know everything there is to know about Urijah Faber and the WEC featherweight division by the time this is all over.

Remember the show airs Sunday night 9 PM ET on the Versus Network.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

I watched the Showtime portion of Dynamite USA and all I've got to say is Jake Shields is easily the best Welterweight not under UFC contract and may be better than some of the top Welterweights under UFC contract.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

I "obtained" a copy of the show yesterday. I also watched the Ackah-Morton and Lesnar-Soo Kim fights on YouTube.

Badly. I enjoyed the card, though. It was strange to see a guy 6'1" (or so) and around 292 lbs (or so).

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

If you have Showtime and either didn't see or want to relive the good stuff from Dynamite USA, Showtime will air portions of the event this Saturday at 9 PM ET before their boxing coverage. Details here

Gracie-Sakuraba, Lesnar-Soo Kim, Morton-Ackah, and Manhoef-Sik will air. The Melvin Manhoef Vs. Yoon Dong Sik fight in particular is a compelling story as Sik came in to the fight winless and Manhoef was a huge favorite.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

Pride has always been a higher quality and better product.
They can integrate the Pride guys w/ older "Name" fighters being dispatched by current UFC guys, but the future of UFC is in the Pride fighters.

I am not surprised Liddell went down. I was surprised by how quickly he went down.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

If you're not going to watch Fight Night tonight and there will be a lot of people who don't you can follow our live coverage

There is no star power on this show, but Jon Fitch is one guy who will be a star before too long. There will be some quality fights I think.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

Johnnie Morton really, really fails drug test sheesh, no wonder he didn't want to give a post-fight sample.

BTW, I can't be the only one that reads this thread that caught Fight Night 10 on Tuesday and if I was you need to see a replay. Some awesome KO's and a great main event plus you got a fight where momentum shifted from one side to the other during the coarse of the bout. Thumbs up show.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

I have a recording of Fight Night 10, but I just haven't seen it yet.

I was surprised at no commentary on the last Ultimate Fighter, but I saw that one too. I've forgotten all my impressions, though. That's what we need Casey for!

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

I didnt' get to watch Fight Night. Is there going to be a replay anytime soon?

The Ultimate Fighter was pretty good last week. Nate has a very good chance of winning it all. Corey is very raw around the edges but has a lot of potential.

What is up with Manny and his cousin Kyro. The way Manny kept going on and on about his cousin, you would think he was talking about a girl. "I love this man...I cannot lose in front of him".

It's funny how Kyro says in one scene that he's cool with Nate Diaz even though he beat his brother Nick before and they show them shaking hands and the next minute they're showing them going at each other in the previews, lol.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

Andres, SpikeTV has been airing Fight Night replays every friday for awhile now. This Friday they're airing one from last April (Keith Jardine Vs. Stephan Bonnar) but I'll keep an eye out for when they'll show Tuesday's again, you need to see it.

Thanks Casey.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

Reminder, that you get not 1 but 2 new episodes of the Ultimate Fighter tonight. UFC.com has revealed the semifinal matches, but I'll put them behind a spoiler tag if you'd rather be surprised.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Episode 11: Joe Lauzon Vs. Manny Gambaryan
Episode 12: Gray Maynard Vs. Nate Diaz

I predict a Lauzon-Diaz final.

MMA legend Royce Gracie tests positive for Steroids

TUF was pretty good tonight. I am a big Jens Pulver fan and have been this whole season.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

When I went to look, the Royce Gracie story wasn't there. Here's the updated link.

Looks like a lot of that going around:

Quote:
The California State Athletic Commission yesterday released information verifying that former NFL star Johnnie Morton's pre-fight drug test had come back positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

Quote:
Today, the CSAC released further test results revealing that Royce Gracie has tested positive for the anabolic steroid Nandrolone Metabolite. Gracie defeated Kazushi Sakuraba by unanimous decision at the K-1 Dynamite show on June 2nd in Los Angeles, California.

It's unfortunate that a result can't be overturned when a fighter is later found to be on the juice. If true, it shows to what lengths fighters will go to win. When I think of the Gracies, I think of them wanting to show the world that it doesn't matter how big or strong you are, it matters the skill you have. Thus this drug test result specifically is a particularly noticeable desperation move.

It was interesting watching that fight as I saw the previous one as well without really knowing who the guy was who beat Gracie. I still couldn't say his name from memory, but I know him when I see him. He has a really interesting fighting style that I find deceptive in that he deflects force repeatedly, sometimes seeming to absorb it to the point where you would think it might get to him, but when he sees his opening, he "wakes up" and attacks.

Re: UFC Ongoing Thread

Yup, TUF was really good last night. Especially that last fight. What a brawl. Gray had that match in his pocket until he got distracted and Diaz made him tap. And that's what's so good about Nate.

The ping pong match was funny too. Nicely edited. B.J and Pulver are just so damn competetive.

Next Saturday can't be here soon enough.

Reportedly, the reason Corey Hill isn't fighting on this show is due to injury.
