Forum slow to load...

Thread Starter
I know a number of people have posted on-and-off over past months that the forum has been slow to load for them.

Well, the forum has been especially slow for me the past few days. I have also, on occasion, noticed other periods when it seems like thread pages in particular, take a long time to load.

Lately, it seems that most of a page will load, but then slow down just before it is complete. In Firefox, the bottom bar will note that the browser is looking to connect with 4.adbrite.com. This is what I've noticed on other occasions, too.

EDIT** Ironically, after I push the "submit" button, the forum hung for about 15-seconds with "Connecting to 4.adbrite.com" looking back at me at the bottom of the page.

I've noticed that too. All the ad banners pop right in, but the actual forum itself takes a while to show up.

Re: Forum slow to load...

There are other issues that seem to be happening as the loads on the server are going up which would have nothing to do with adbright. I have gone ahead and removed it though to see if things improve any.

Re: Forum slow to load...

I came here to start a similar thread, though not about any particular ad. Posting replies (quick or otherwise) has been taking forever lately (last day or two), resulting in an increase of double-posts.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Parker: For me, the forum is still loading slowly...especially when posting. However, I'm not seeing the "connecting to 4.adbrite.com" while I'm waiting.

Server stress?

BTW...another weird thing is happening for me. When my post finally DOES show up...instead of being transferred to the place in the thread where my post is at the top of the screen...my sig is at the top of the scene and the post itself is off-screen. I have to scroll slightly to see it. Don't know if that means anything to you.

Mike:

I am not sure what is going on then. I don't have those same iisues other than posts taking a long time to load.

Re: Forum slow to load...

It can take 2 or 3 minutes for a post to submit! Sometimes a page can take a good minute or two to change as well. It doesnt seem to matter the time of day. It can be 2 AM or 2 PM, and it isnt all the time.

Re: Forum slow to load...

I am having our site admin look at these issues as the seem to have started a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Forum slow to load...

For what it is worth, it has been slow-to-impossible for forum sections to load. Today & yesterday I noticed it. Today I tried 4 times to get into the Studio & Manufacturer Feedback forum and a few times into the Coupons and Deals forum - each time the pages failed to load at all. I was surprised when I quickly got into this Forum Help and Feedback area, and was going to post a new topic but saw this thread already going.

For what it is worth, I closed & opened IE 6 (xpsp2), cleared the Temp Internet Files folder, and even rebooted, but that didn't improve matters.

Re: Forum slow to load...

The last couple of days have been problematic here as well. It's pretty erratic, like 1 click out of 5 will take about a minute to load or submit stuff, sometimes longer.

Ditto here, the refresh button sometimes loads the page which seems to jam and stall.
Though the refresh will just kick me back to prior page if the 'jam' is not far enough along. Today/yesterday.
To post is faster than page load once I'm in a section although at times it needs a 'refresh' also.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Parker: Things seem to be especially slow and clunky today. I may have set a new record in the MLB Hot Stove Thread in After Hours. The original post was clocked-in at 3:44 Eastern time...and the double post clocked in at 3:53 ET! Seven minutes later.

While I was waiting for the original post to go through I got distracted and walked away from my computer. When I returned, I found that I had gotten a double post. In fact, someone else actually posted in-between them!

But the forum has been bogging down on me all day. And what I usually do as I sit there and wait...I'll pop another tab up on Firefox and click one of my bookmarks to see if things are okay. 99 times out of 100 the other site will pop right up while I continue to wait on the HTF.

Mike:

We may be adding yet another server to the site to help things along. We will see what happens.

Stay tuned.

Cool.

The price of success I guess, eh?

Re: Forum slow to load...

Parker: I've been trying to think about how I could best describe what my experience has been lately.

It seems as if everything is moving along quick and zippy...reading threads, making the occasional post, whatever...when, suddenly, you push a button and just start waiting for a response from the server. You might wait up to a minute or two (staring at the little white box in the lower right-hand corner of Firefox to start loading its little green progress bar) when, just as suddenly, the green bar shows up and half-fills the box...hangs for a little while longer and then you'll be off and running again.

In other words, the hang-ups seems to cycle around. You'll be motoring along nice and easy for awhile...and then hit a wall. If you wait it out, as soon as things start up again...you're usually good-to-go for another several minutes until "WHAM!" ...you are waiting again.

Don't know if that is helpful or not.

Re: Forum slow to load...

maybe since the other topic i started before is the same as this one they could be merged.

but my description over there comes down to the page gets to near fully loaded
then hangs until it finishes.

it was betterfor awhile but it has started again.

as mike mentioned the green bar in firefox, for me, gets right to the end of full then stops for a minute or so until the page finishes and you see "done" in the bottom left.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Just wanted to note that it has been awhile since anyone has complained about the forum running slow.

It struck me tonight that things have really been zipping right along lately. No hang-ups when posting or replying in threads.

Thanks, Parker.

Mike:

Hopefully as our ISP moves to another network this will improve even more. This may take them a few months but the new network sounds a lot better than the one they are hosted on presently.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Could not get the Forum ALL day yesterday through midnight last night. Kept getting a page about "No Server".
Then this morning I see that everyone else was merrily posting that whole time.
Can't imagine what was wrong.

I haven't been able to get on via the main HTF home page for about a day. But going in the back door, directly to an individual forum area, works just fine.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Same thing for me too. Actually, I still cannot get to the home/portal page. If I go to www.hometheaterforum.com it times out. If I go to www.hometheaterforum.com/htf I can get in here just fine.

I only hit enter once. Made 2 posts, and took about 5 minutes to load!

Re: Forum slow to load...

It seems like the forum is really running slowly for me tonight. Pages are taking frustratingly long to load...while making posts takes a period of time just shy of an eternity.

Other sites are loading quickly. I've also seen a couple of instances of double posts (a usual indicator of slow loads).

i see slowness also.

Re: Forum slow to load...

I had the same slow loading issues this morning and contacted
our server rep about the problem.

The forum seems to be loading pretty fast at the moment and
I'm accessing it from work on a laptop aircard.

If the problem persists for you guys please let us know.

Re: Forum slow to load...

Yup. Everything seems to be coming up normally this morning, Ron.

It was deadly slow at times last night.
