Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006 - Page 2

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

Well, I'm surprised CC actually had what they advertised! Young Frankenstein, enhanced for 16:9, for 4.99. The bin had about 12 copies.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

I'm shocked and appalled that certain titles were not in the Roundup, particularly considering the recent heated and scintillating philosophical discussion in which Mr. Frezon and I engaged regarding the same, and I'm a little disappointed that no onlookers have pointed out these glaring omissions, choosing instead to focus on some silly minor children's show that didn't deserve to be there anyway, but I'll rectify the situation immediately:

SD-DVD TITLE Amazon BestBuy CrcCity Target Costco
Pokemon 10th Anniversary, Vol. 5 - Blastoise
$9.98 $8.99 $9.99 $9.98  -
Pokemon 10th Anniversary, Vol. 6 - Eevee
$9.98 $8.99 $9.99 $9.98  -
Pokemon 10th Anniversary, Vol. 7 - Bulbasaur
$9.98 $8.99 $9.99 $9.98  -

What the heck is going on around here -- this place is falling apart!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

I do not believe there has ever been a week before where I wanted to buy so much!!

Definitely on the list is Bewitched S.4 and An American Haunting (glad to see there is an unrated version)...maybe a little later on I'll buy Sesame Street though it'll be difficult to wait to buy it. And I'm receiving the Addams Family Vol. 1 some time this week.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

Mike,

That "Alpha Video" disc coming soon at Amazon can't have the entire series unless it's a DVD-18 (which I doubt). There are no details given as to the contents in the Amazon listing.

The Capra "Why We Fight" series includes the following films:

Prelude to War - 53 minutes
The Nazis Strike - 42 minutes
Divide and Conquer - 54 minutes
The Battle of Britain - 52 minutes
The Battle of Russia - 83 minutes
The Battle of China - 65 minutes
War Comes to America - 66 minutes

I figure the "1-disc" designation at amazon.com is in error. Probably just what shows up in the absence of concrete information.

HERE we go... at a place called Oldies.com. Cover art, too! A Two-disc set. Wonder why amazon wouldn't have the same info?!

Has anyone seen the Total Recall new release anywhere? Any info about it? Everybody I ask about it looks at me like I have 2 heads.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

I don't know if this is a YMMV situation, but when I was at Best Buy today picking up The Addams Family, I noticed that all the SNL TV Funhouse discs were sticker-priced @ $14.99 (leading me to believe that is their regular EDLP) and not the $16.99 sale price that they are advertisng in this weeks circular.

Gary:

From this week's RoundUp:

Quote:
--Some confusion about SNL: Best of Saturday Night Funhouse at Best Buy this week. Flyers list the B&M price at $16.99, but bestbuy.com is listing $14.99.

I figured the $14.99 price would be what BB would be charging. It's definitely weird, though, that they would have the wrong price in their flyers. Accidents happen, I guess! Wonder how they are ringing up? Maybe $12.99!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

Whoops! Thanks Mike for the clarification. Just one more reason why its always a good idea to read the RoundUp ALL the way through.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-24-2006

In the interest of making it easier for people to take advantage of release-week deals for a worthy title, I am going to break my own rules and offer a preview of my in-progress review of Monster House (I got the screener late and only got to watch it last night).

I will be labeling this one RECOMMENDED FOR KIDS. It's aimed at older kids (I would say that 10-12 is the ideal age), but is smart enough that parents won't mind watching with them. It's nice to see an original piece of entertainment for older kids that doesn't involve any sort of toy tie-in (at least as far as I know). Note that it is a horror film and it's rated PG -- if you have small children, you may want to screen it first. Some of it may be too intense or scary for them. You know your kids better than I do (I once saw a boy who must've been 9 run screaming from the theater during the wolf scene in Beauty And The Beast (the Disney version!), and I know some 5 and 6 year-olds who dig Lemony Snicket and are not fazed by much).

Oh, in case you were wondering, the picture and sound are excellent. There are a bunch of extra features, but I haven't screened them yet. My full review will be posted in the Software forum sometime in the next day or two.
