Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

Columbia:

Sony is much maligned I know-but they have been generous about dipping into their vaults recently with never released in any form titles such as the Robert Altman duo IMAGES(albeit through MGM probably due to its Hemdale connection) and CALIFORNIA SPLIT; I WALK THE LINE; BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING; LOVING(a personal favorite); BLACK GUNN and others.

1969:LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS! AGE OF CONSENT(should be released in the wake of Helen Mirren's sure to be Oscared performance in THE QUEEN),MAD ROOM; SOUTHERN STAR

1970: FRAGMENTS OF FEAR; A SEVERED HEAD; BUTTERCUP CHAIN; LADY IN A CAR WITH GLASSES AND A GUN; YOU CANT WIN EM ALL

1971: FLIGHT OF DOVES; SUMMERTREE; DRIVE HE SAID(to important to ignore. Will it follow Sony's recent THE PASSENGER release?); fool's parade; welcome to the club; last rebel; a safe place; happy birthday wanda june

1972: STAND UP AND BE COUNTED; TO FIND A MAN; GLASS HOUSES

1073: NO SEX PLEASE WE'RE BRITISH; NATIONAL HEALTH; THE HIRELING(never understood this ones absence. DRIVING MISS DAISY owes a great deal to this right down to the poster art); love and pain and the whole damn thing; oklahoma crude; let the good times roll; lost horizon(although the Pioneer disc may disqualify this)

1974: CRAZY JOE; THE TAKE; THOMASINE AND BUSHROD;CHOSEN SURVIVORS; CONFESSIONS OF A WINDOW CKEANER; BIRDS DO IT-BEES DO IT; OPEN SEASON; GRAVY TRAIN

1975:STARDUST; NIGHT CALLER; LIES MY FATHER TOLD ME

1976:SHADOW OF THE HAWK; BABY BLUE MARINE; COUNTDOWN AT KUSINI; NICKELODEON

1977:THE FARMER

1978:SOMEBODY KILLED HER HUSBAND

1979: JUST YOU AND ME KID; SKATETOWN USA(the trailer on Synapse's new 42ND Street FOREVER 2 makes me want to see this more than ever),RAVAGERS; THAT SUMMER; WHEN YOU COMIN BACK RED RYDER

1980: AMERICAN SCCESS COMPANY

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

Louis,

WACKY (PEPPER) TAXI is out on Unicorn

ROGUE is out on Magnum

YOU CAN'T WIN THEM ALL was available on a sell thru label (edde?) under the title SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE.

BLACK GUNN was out on Goodtime video (simila to RIDE BEYOND VENGEANCE, MAN CALLED SLEDGE)

all pretty tough to come by though.

CRASH! was suppose to come out on Catalina video, but after searching for it for 23 years, I am convinced it was never released.

I've heard a lot of people on this site say how bad they want this title, so I decided to check out what this movie was about on IMDB, and the movie sounds pretty good. It's directed by Billy Wilder and stars Kirk Douglas so I know its a good film. Can't wait till Warner Bros decides to release it on dvd.

Thanks Walt! i know you are better at this than me-but still find it all very interesting
CRASH! in all my travels-has yet to show up. I consider this defunct. What is TAXI under? And is ROGUE under original title?

Wonder Woman, the supremely cheesy TV pilot from 1974, with Cathy Lee Crosby and Ricardo Montalban.

Also released on VHS through MGM.

So, I went and did it. I sent away for an Japanese release of this movie, which I have never seen on video, nor dvd. And it's put out by MGM in English, it plays on my little American dvd player with no problems, and it even has deleted scenes! So the menus are in Japanese--so what; I like to randomly click on things anyway. I'm not advocating a Region war, or bootlegging, but from now on I'm not waiting for these bloated studios to move their butts--I know what I want, and if they're not going to give it to me, I'll go to another country. I always hate it when I read posts like "Hi, guys! Such-and-such a movie is being released on March 3 in the U.K.! But you yanks aren't going to get it until July 19th! So, nyah, nyah, nyah and Cheerio!"

I suppose we'll not be happy until every movie in existence has been put on dvd; but if you think of it, they probably already have, but you have to travel around the world to get them.

Oh, wow, I have SYLVIA on tape somewhere, too, as I'm a Carroll Baker fan.
You listed some other good ones there.

However,
TIME TRAVELERS was officially released on VHS through Thorn-EMI.
DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMBS was put out on VHS through Orion.

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

This thread seems to contain the words "bed", "sitting" and "room" but not all three together. Heh!

I've really only ever heard of the 1969 british film Bed Sitting Room but it would sure be great to see it complete. I saw the last few minutes of it on a pay channel and thought it looked up my alley, kind of Time Bandits-ish. But they never showed it again. Anyone know if a release is upcoming or perhaps where to pick up a copy?

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

I seem to recall reading in a "Not Available on Home Video" article that THE BED SITTING ROOM was being prepared for Home Video, but that was way before the Sony brouhaha when they took "control" of the MGM library. I am holding my breath for CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE, MIDNIGHT, TALES OF MANHATTAN, SHOW OF SHOWS, HOLLYWOOD REVIEW OF 1929, PIGSKIN PARADE, CAVALCADE, CAPTAIN FROM CASTILLE, REMEMBER THE NIGHT, PITFALL, CAUGHT, THE SENATOR WAS INDISCREET, THE KEY (Loren & Holden), EASY LIVING, MISS GRANT TAKES RICHMOND, THE BELLES OF ST. TRINIANS, THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF YOUR LIFE, THE IRON PETTICOAT, SHE DONE HIM WRONG, LET'S DANCE, THE INSPECTOR GENERAL (non pd), ME AND THE COLONEL, JUPITER'S DARLING, PLYMOUTH ADVENTURE, FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE (Minnelli), ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE (McQueen), SOLDIER IN THE RAIN, A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT (Will Rogers), FACTS OF LIFE (Hope and Ball), THE WILD HEART (aka GONE TO EARTH, SON OF FURY, AGAINST ALL FLAGS, IF I HAD A MILLION, KING OF JAZZ, FOLLOW THE BOYS, A FOREIGN AFFAIR, THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR, FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO, THE CLOWN (1953), THE HORN BLOWS AT MIDNIGHT, CLUNY BROWN, HER HUSBAND'S AFFAIRS, THE WAYWARD BUS, WALTZES FROM VIENNA, NO HIGHWAY IN THE SKY, THE ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY, A KEY TO THE CITY, MADAM SATAN, THE STORY OF DR, WASSELL. My Holy Grail(s)---File them under "It ain't Going to Happen Because They're Never Shown Anywhere at Anytime: LET'S FACE IT, WINGED VICTORY, SERGEANTS THREE, WHERE'S CHARLEY?, HOME BEFORE DARK, NIGHT FLIGHT, LETTY LYNDON, ROOM FOR ONE MORE, THE MAGIC BOX, STELLA (1950), HANDY ANDY, THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW (1934), THE MUDLARK, but who would have thought that we would see releases of two Will Rogers Collections, STORM WARNING, O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE, WHO WA THAT LADY?, and a letterboxed OH, WHAT A LOVELY WAR! in 2006?

Are you guys porting these gems over to dvd-r as not to fade away to time?

Quite a few of those titles already had video releases, including MIDNIGHT, THE SENATOR WAS INDISCREET, THE KEY, KING OF JAZZ, MADAM SATAN, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, THE HORN BLOWS AT MIDNIGHT, KEY TO THE CITY, MAJOR & THE MINOR, THE FACTS OF LIFE, ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY, SON OF FURY, MISS GRANT TAKES RICHMOND, JUPITER'S DARLING, and probably a few others there - I just know that these did off the top of my head.

All good movies, of course, but not relevant to this thread.

Both REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD and ELVIS (Kurt Russell) were released on VHS by Vestron. ELVIS was the 2-hour international cut-down version, though, so I guess technically the original uncut version has never been on video.

Is "No Man of Her Own" as good as I hope it is? (and believe me, as a devoted Stanwyckian and Woolrichian, those hopes are pretty high!)

I would like to add:

The Rounders (1964)

a hilarious comedy that needs to be on DVD!

I'm sorry, I take this thread as meaning "Never on DVD" rather than any form of Video, I now see from looking at the other posts that it is not limited to merely DVD....but nonetheless I want the films I posted on a newer form of home entertainment delivery system than lets say Discovision!

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

I was just going thru my tapes. I have a couple of episodes of the Eddie Murphy stop animation show The PJs. Very funny short-lived show.

Penn & Teller's Invisible Thread. An all time favorite short film from the magicians. It should really be on DVD right now.

THE PLEASURE OF HIS COMPANY (1961)
ALL THE FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS (1960)
THE JOKER IS WILD (1957)
PENELOPE (1966)
A TICKLISH AFFAIR (1963)
MRS. O'MALLEY AND MR. MALONE (1951)
WHO'S BEEN SLEEPING IN MY BED? (1963)
THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE (1968)

.......and on and on.....there are so many....

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

I used to watch COTTON CANDY, Ron Howard's awful but somehow compulsively watchable TV movie about a battle of the bands competition, every time it came on TV and it was one of the first things I ever taped on VHS. Now I wish I had it, but I can't find it. Bootlegs abound and I've even heard it's been posted on that certain streaming video site, but I can't discuss it.

Would love to have an official release, if only to relive the thrill of staying up late as a kid to watch a movie on TV.

The director's cut of NEEDFUL THINGS would be great, too.

HEARTS OF DARKNESS had an LD release, too; I remember holding it in my hands at a Suncoast and thinking I should buy this. Never did. My bad.

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

How about The Legend of Lylah Clare? I wish Warner Bros. would release this on dvd.

Also I would like to see Alex in Wonderland come to dvd. I have never seen this one, but would someday like to see it. I think Warner Bros. also owns this one.

Re: What are some of your taped treasures never on video?

THE BIG TRAIL (letterboxed version)
THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE
L'ANNEE DES MEDUSES (a real guilty pleasure)
MERRY ANDREW
Sam Peckinpah's THE WESTERNER (all 13 episodes)
CHARLEY VARRIK (letterboxed)
MINSTREL MAN (a great, but neglected TV movie)
SILENT NIGHT, LONELY NIGHT (a senitmental favorite because it was filmed in Amherst, MA when I was a freshman at UMASS).
