Yup...one of the highlights. Not for an aggressive surround mix (such a straight-ahead rocker wouldn't really lend itself to that, I think), but for the visceral, alive quality of the guitars...fantastic! Try not to play air guitar and scream along with John...I dare you.

"Love" would have been worth the $15 I paid even if the only track on it was the 5.1 mix of Revolution.

No sh*t. I kid you not. It is stunning.

Of course, so is "Come Together", "Here Comes the Sun", "Mr. Kite/I want You, She's So Heavy".......and pretty much every other track on the disc.

The main thread has about 1,000 posts in it, IIRC, and from a purely unscientific read, I would say that the vast majority love it.

A very few members just can not seem to bring themselves to enjoy it for what it is, but as I said, it seems to me that those in favor out number those opposed by a wide margain.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

Brian,

I can relate....

I have a friend at work who is a HUGE Beatles fan. He brings
his iPod to work and most of what is on it is Beatles music.

He listened to Love on The Beatles website, but can't
bring himself to buying it. He says that he just doesn't agree
with what has been done to the music.

I disagree with his opinion. With the exception of strings added
to While My Guitar Gently Weeps, every ounce of that
CD is all original Beatles material with no added outside musicians
or effects.

The CD has been "tastefully" done, and from what I have read,
most die-hard fans are accepting of it.

Given that I consider Sir George an indispensable member of the band, even that is original Beatles material imo. And whatever he does with the music is fine with me...he's a Beatle, and was intricately involved in the first place.

No disagreement here. In fact, if I could grab such incredible versions in i-tunes fashion of the whole catalog, $255 for "Abbey Road" wouldn't seem all that excessive given the order-of-magnitude higher amount I've got tied up in really crap discs and music. Well, maybe they'd cut a deal on the medleys.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

add me to the list of casual fans (never loved them, didn't hate them, really does anyone not like at least a few beatles songs?) who just got a lot more excited with the Beatles after this. And as impressive as "Kite" and the more ambitiously sonic numbers are, the clarity and beauty of the softer tracks like "Blackbird" are equally impressive.

This is my only Beatles CD outside of "Live At The BBC". If they do the entire catalog like this (hi-rez mono/stero for the original albums, with 5.1 remixes), I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Really great stuff.

Nudie outtakes from the "Two Virgins" cover photo session?

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

What makes me wonder after listening to this a few times is why can't all DVD-A's be produced this well.

I have complaints about my system at times being muddy when playing NIN, Beck's Guero, etc.

Then when I play stuff that is more clean it lacks a solid audio impact.

Love is perfect. Its driving and makes me not think anything is wrong with my system anymore

Of course it has made me start to get the stuff for my new sonotube subs. They bass track is so well done that I think this DVD-A will grow with the system and it really has driven me to get in gear on doing the new setup.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

I love LOVE but...
I can't seem to get my mac to read it so I can rip it into Itunes.
I bought the double disc CD/DVD-A edition, so it's not like I've not paid for the music already. I hope it's not copy protected so I can't put it on my ipod.

Does anyone know?

No problems here. I had previously ripped it on a PC, and just having gotten a new Mac, I popped it in there, and it is importing as I type.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

HELP! I NEED SOMEBODY! HELP!

I bought the LOVE DVD-A, but my DVD player only plays it in PPCM 3/2.1

DVD Player is a LG LDA-731 (DVD-A compatible)
I am connected to my TV with HDMI and my Kenwood Amp with Optical.

I am given no menu choices when I insert the disc.
Normally my receiver auto detects the format being sent. In this case I just get digital sound through my 2 front speakers.

Ideas?

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

With most DVD-A capable players you must use the "multi-channel out" connection between your dvd player and receiver. DVD-A (and SACD) is not passed thru the digital connection like DD and DTS are. Also, some DVD-A players (namely a couple of Panasonics) are stereo only and not 5.1. Not sure about yours though since I couldn't find any info on it on the web.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

If your player is like an LG I saw at Best Buy last year and which I also emailed LG about, that player has no multichannel analog outputs and only outputs dvd-audio via HDMI. But, the response I received wasn't very clear though and didn't say whether *multichannel* audio was also included.

The thing is, even if it did transmit 5.1 signals your Kenwood would have to include the decoder chip to handle audio (i.e. decode and amplify for the speakers) from the HDMI input and even now the majority of new receivers still don't do this - they only act as HDMI *source switches*.

btw: another LG player I messed with at BB (I think it was a diferent model, can't remember now) didn't have the option in its set up menu to play dvd-audio discs as dvd-video discs like every other dvd-a player I have dealt with. Having that useful option would allow you to access the 5.1 Dolby/DTS tracks and any other features on the dvd-v layer.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

Thanks. My amp is connected to the DVD player with Optical not HDMI. My amp does have the proper decoder chip.

Re: The Beatles on DVD-A

Just got back from spending a few days in Vegas and got to see Love, absolutely loved the show and very highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of how big of a Beatles fan you are. The sound system is amazing, great video displays, and just an overall really fun experience, check it-
