That really sucks, if this is true. I was looking forward to completing all the seasons for this great series. I think they owe that to the people who have faithfully purchased all four seasons, to date.

Every time I see this thread reserrected I hope it is news of the release of the final three seasons. I am really bummed that I may never get the complete series of this and the Bob Newhart Show, my two most favorite sitcoms of all time.

Oprah supposedly gave out copies of the first four season DVDs to audience members of that show, and the seasons 1-4 combined gift pack shot up like a rocket on Amazon.com, so we'll just wait and see.

You know, couldn't the studio just write off any losses on their taxes?

I'd be quite content with that, at least we would know it would be coming out. Seriously though I think FOX is the WORST studio ever for TV on DVD. Anyone else agree?

Is there a even a glimmer of hope for season 5 to be released? After looking at the way it has been doing in the amazon sales since to Oprah televised reunion it climbed and climbed and climbed, hitting the best sellers list peaking at around 40 I think, could have even been higher. And I'm not on about season 4, I am on about the complete bundle of seasons 1-4...
The set was selling at around 1000ish last week but now when I just looked it was 890.. I know amazon is just one retailer but surely this huge upswing of sales will prove to FOX that if they properly gave it enough publicity like Oprah obviously did, the show would sell very well???
Will this upswing convince them to put out the reamining seasons? I really hope so because I have never seen them...

There was a posting at TVShowsOnDVD.com about a month ago (and there's a thread in the TV DVD Software forum with the link) about Shout! possibly picking up some abandoned titles to complete the sets, beginning this fall IIRC. I believe Shout! did the fantastic "Dick Van Dyke Show" sets several years back. No specific titles were mentioned in the article, but the impression was that there would be some people that would be EXTREMELY happy when the titles are officially announced.

Shout! had nothing to do with The Dick Van Dyke Show. That was an Image release. The releases that have been announced are Universal-owned, however.

Shout! has announced plans for at least one abandonded FOX series, Son of the Beach. Not that it means anything for MTM, but it shows they do have some relationship with the company.

Sorry, I'd have to give that award to Warner Bros. They have been sitting on Private Eye and Western Gold forever (Cheyenne, Bronco, Sugarfoot, Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, Surfside 6, Bourbon St. Beat, Lawman, etc) with NO intention of ever releasing or even licensing it out to anyone. They are the worst, hands down in my book.

First of all, he indicated that it is indeed, profit and loss that has slowed things on the release of TMTMS and other classic series...they didn't sell as many as they'd like and they don't really want to produce seasons without making a profit. No big surprise there.
Second, he did say that the situation is currently "bending back", that while some shows have stalled, the thought now may be to consider getting some of those releases back on track.
Finally, he claimed he "wants to hear from" people who like TMTMS, and asked about petition sites dealing with the show. I told him I would email him once again asking fox to put out seasons 5-7, and also include the links for the two biggest petition sites, and i since have done that.

Here's where you come in. I'm going to give his email address below, and while I'm not sure how much good it will do, if some of the people on the board write him, maybe at the very least it will move TMTMS up in fox's consciousness. Keep in mind he wasn't thrilled about the email addy being posted, but he appreciated the heads up.
It's my humble guess/opinion that this fellow may have a role in what gets released, and that if you're nice, passionate, concise, and we don't bombard the guy, it COULD help. I think it's worth a shot. I mean, I'm still gonna try to track down Seasons 5-7 before Fox puts them out on DVD, but if we can make the DVDs happen even a day faster, that would be great!!!...So here it is:

This is what I don't like to hear. Were sales really that bad, or were Fox's expectations too high? Were they judging the series sales on their own merit, or judging them bases on Family Guy, Buffy, and The Simpsons?

Apparently, The MTM Show isn't as beloved by the general public as its classic reputation would suggest. I'm afraid it's just a little too intelligent to ever be a great success. Even so, other intelligent shows have completed a full series' run, and it's a shame this one couldn't have done so, too.

Our best hope is that Fox will agree to license the final three seasons out to another company that's willing to take it on.

The show was a bomb in syndication. Every MTM Productions show except WKRP in Cincinnati performed horribly in reruns, largely because they have little appeal to children who are the ones who tend to control the TV in the late afternoon, post-soap opera time slots.

If children call the shots in syndication, that might explain why shows like "Gilligan's Island," "The Munsters" and "The Addams Family" seemed to do better in syndication than in their original network runs.

And don't forget The Brady Bunch. My daughters used to watch this all the time when it was in syndication in the 80s.

I really hope that Fox will just "suck it up" and do the right thing for a classic TV show like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and bring out the final seasons of this show so ardent fans can have the complete series.

i don't have any freinds into the show as i am in the UK.

However i did send a email to all the poeple i have sold TMTMS DVDs to on Ebay in the past couple of years. asking for their help.

i will probably email the people that bought bob newhart as well

Fox, quite frankly, deserves to lose money on their catalog titles because they do no promotion, they cut corners wherever possible, and they leave fans hanging for years (soon turning into decades). Is there any reason whatsoever why we should have any good will towards this or any studio who treats fans in such a fashion?
