VGA to Component conversion..

Thread Starter
I have a laptop that I want to hook-up to my HDTV, rather than through the built in S-Video support. Being that I have an early HDTV, it only supports component for HD input. Previously, I've found expensive solutions for VGA to component, such as this breakout box

Now, I've uncovered this low caost alternative that seems to good to be true

My question: Is there any reason the alternative cheaper solution would not work?

Re: VGA to Component conversion..

That cheapo one is just a breakout cable, it doesn't do signal conversion, won't work for this application.
(it's VGA -> RGB, not the VGA->YPrPb you need which is different, also it's a weird cable not of much use to most since I think one usually needs VGA->RGBHV, with the sync signals, for TVs that support it like some of the Mitsubishi sets)

There are cheaper converter boxes out there, like at

(actually some are same box as your first link, I think, just on clearance at near half the price)
