Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Hey Rachael B you should be able to download the update from panasonic and burn it to your own cd. Let me know if you can not download it and if you are still having problems getting via Panasonic.

Send me a private message if you can not get the update.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Thanks for the kind offer Dave! I'm gonna call Panasonic back soon and try again. I deserve better than the excrement I got last time. I wanna see if I can get them to send me a disc. I wanna see how difficult it is before I give up and just get a copy. I wish Panasonic was as nice as Toshiba about upgrades. They ought'a be, IMO. War is war, eh? Thanks again!

First, I'd check to see what version is already on the player. But, if it's not v.1.4, I'd download and install it. My experience with other firmware updates is that they are cumulative. And I think this can be confirmed by Panny no longer making v. 1.2 available for download AFAIK.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I am setting up my Panny and having trouble with the subwoofer. When I do the test it never goes to the sub.

I am using the 5.1 analog settings and checked all of my connections, but the test never goes to the sub.

Any ideas?

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

In the menu that displays all of the speakers and gives you the option of setting large, small, or none, how does it show that your sub is set up as, ie. is it present?

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I found a note on page that basically stats that the test signal will not come out of the sub. So after I update the firmware I will try a movie to adjust the sub.

I tried to play the move "8 below" but it kept going back and forth between the movie, different color screens and a blank screen. Is this something the firmware will take care of? I am using a monoprice 5x1 hdmi switcher.

From a post on another forum:

Quote:
On page 23 of the BD10 manual look under:

Channel balance (©)
3 Press [ENTER]
The test signal stops.

* No signal is output for the subwoofer. To adjust its volume, play something, then return to this screen to adjust to suit your taste.

Eight Below never gave me any problems at 1.2 or after I updated to 1.4

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I think my problem is with the HDMI switcher.

Others have reported HDMI problems with that switcher when connected to 1080p sources (notably a PS 3). Some report success with position #5. Monoprice may be able to help. It's a good outfit.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Is there anyone else using a Monoprice 5x1 switcher with the Panny? I have been fighting this connection all day. It works fine when connected directly to my Sony HDTV, but loses signal every 10 to 20 seconds when going through the switcher. My Directv HD-DVR work fine with the switcher. I have checked connections, diconnected other devices and swapped cables, but get the same result.

A second call to Panasonic netted the result I desired. DHL delivered me a 1.4 CD today. It was fast and efficent as soon as Panasonic personel actually knew the upgrade CD was available. Send the DTS Master update, pronto, por favor!

Well, it didn't work out. As best I can figur, the upgrade CD they sent me was for some unknown model DVD recorder. Folks have offred to send me a copy but I think Panasonic should. I'll call again.....

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Wel, this week Panasonic is back to saying the 1.4 firmware upgrade disc is not available. I imagine that they've sold so few of these players that they're not bothering to suppourt them fully.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I am returning the Monoprice switcher, but am still having some problems. My problems is the audio output using analog. I have double checked my cables, my A/V settings and the Panny settings. I get the audio only from the 2 front speakers. I believe it is a setting somewhere on the Panny that is causing this.

Can someone that is using the analog output direct me to what settings to use?

Have you turned HDMI Audio off on the player?

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I got it working. It was the A/V receiver. I also have to push "MultiCh" on the remote to get it to work. Now I need to get my Harmony Remote to do this when I turn the Panny on.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

How is this player as a cd player? If I get a blu ray player it will have to replace my Pioneer 47ai as my main cd player as I have no more space or inputs for another device.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Hello all,

From another forum, there's news of a second gen Panny Blu-ray player (BD10A) coming in April. But, wait. We early adopters get many of the same features!

Quote:
Second Gen Panasonic DMP-BD10A
In short the article says (from Panasonic's Milano show) that it will have HDMI 1.3, support of 7.1 HD sound (only mentions Dolby TrueHD), List price $1000 and available from April. The article also says that the older BD10 will get a firmware update at the same time that enables the same audio features as the newer BD10A.

Apparently, Panny support has its wires crossed. I just received a solicitation from Panasonic for its Customer Care Plan aka extended warranty. The letter says they hope I am enjoying the DVD recorder I purchased. Huh?

The DVD recorder they sent me firmware for did have a similar model #. A friend burned me a copy of the 1.4 'ware, so, I have it now. I figur that Pansonic has proably only sold a few thousand Blu players in the U.S. At any rate, Blu is a very small blip on their radar.

If this upgrade allows pcm7.1/lossless via hdmi that would be a real bonus.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

I'm thinking of taking advantage of Robert's special on this player. I just would like to know what everyone thinks of the player since the 1.4 upgrade. I will be connecting via HDMI so the prospect of DTS MA and TrueHD in the future via firmware upgrade is enticing as well. How is PQ compared to Samsung and Sony models? How about SD upconverting? I have an A2 - how does it compare to that for SD discs?

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Southpaw,

Check out the ratings for the Samsung, Sony and the Panny Blu-ray players competence in SD upconverting on the Secrets benchmark site here http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...on-9-2000.html

I'll give you a clue. The Panny is the only one recommended for SD upconversion. The Secrets reviewers are still perfecting their criteria for rating Blu-ray players playing those discs.

Quote:
For standard definition DVD playback, the Panasonic DMP-BD10 is in a completely different league than the Samsung Blu-ray player. While it is not quite as good as what we’ve seen from Panasonic’s dedicated DVD platforms, it is good enough that I think most people would be more than happy using it for their SD DVDs as well as Blu-ray discs.

This player was extremely stable before and after the 1.4 update. I too am looking forward to the lossless update and am very pleased that it is not becoming obsolete as a result of the firmware updates available for it.

Re: Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Thanks Dana. That info helped alot.
I guess my next question or inquiry is how it will compare to the 2nd gen Samsung that is coming out next month. It supposedly will have the HQV chip which is a huge plus and may put it over the top of the Panny in terms of PQ.

You will always be poised at the cutting edge of technology - until you make the purchase.

Even if the 2nd gen Samsung has a HQV chip I would still most likely choose the Panasonic or another brand over the Samsung. I would not trust the Samsung any further than I could trow it.
