The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

So I saw this in a box at work for release on the 10th and I was surprised, I had heard nothing on this and I searched the forums but still no word....so what is the deal with this? Are these new transfers for the original films or what? Any details would be much appreciated.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Wow. I'd like to know too. That package seems hard to resist.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

All I aks for, is a double-disc set with the Original S.E. and "Version You've Never Seen".

I don't understand why this doesn't exist.

I personally won't buy any of the sequels no matter what they're packaged with.

This deserves a proper release with both cuts of the original film plus all the extras.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Donnie, it does. It includes the Exorcist Special Edition with all the extras and the TVYNSB. The first 1,000 units sold also come with a real snazzy Exorcist Beer Coaster that has "Exorcist II: The Heretic" printed on the label. Best price I can find is $26.99 on Amazon. Not a bad deal.

Already own this on R2.. Good package for the price

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

On second thought, if it's packaged with individual keepcases inside, I'll buy it and sell the other two films on Ebay.

Excorcist beer coasters??

Sorry, that was a joke, because that's what I'll be doing with The Heretic DVD.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Schrader's DOMINION makes a great frisbee.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

I'm just guessing but since there has been zero info on this release, I think that guarantees that it's the same discs as before. It's just a cash-in/re-release to hit people buying horror movies at Halloween time.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

For what it's worth I remember seeing the announcement on other sites a few months back.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

For twenty-odd bucks, it's a nice pick up, if indeed every extra is carried over.

Sad but true, isn't it? After all the talk and controversy, I ended up preferring the Harlin version (not that it didn't have faults of its own, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some people thought). Schrader's movie is just so dull and lifeless...this time was one instance where "the studio" had it right!

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

For $26.99 I quickly pre-ordered this set. I've never seen any of the sequels and at that price no matter how bad those sequels may be, I won't feel ripped off.

That is a good price but watch The Exorcist II and see if you still feel that way.

Be about the same as buying both versions of the original and then renting the rest. Cheaper, actually.

I wonder if they've turned the Special Edition of the original into a dual-layer DVD; that actually might be worth the upgrade.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Exorcist III is a pretty damn good film IMHO. Has one of the all time jump out of your seat moments in horror.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

I'll take Schrader's version over Harlin's any day of the week. Schrader's version is infinitely more appropriate in comparison to the original film and Harlin's version is everything the original isn't: it's a big, obnoxious Hollywood production with no substance.

I agree completely, Mike. I think everyone (myself included at first) was ready to automatically despise Harlin's version because of the studio politics, and then to automatically praise Schrader's version as the poor underdog who got a bad deal. Well, I was surprised that I actually preferred Harlin's too. As you say, it has its faults for sure, but it's not as limp and sleep-inducing as DOMINION for me.

As far as I'm concerned, only THE EXORCIST and EXORCIST III are truly great films.

Am I the only one who likes them all, even The Heretic ?

I think he means he doesn't like the 2nd film, so instead of viewing the DVD he is going to use it as a place-mat for beverages made of hops, yeast, and barley.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

I've had a chance to look at a set at a video store that got an early copy and was a bit dissapointed....the films are all repackaged, no new transfers.
Even the old artwork is still there down to the double sided 25th Anniversary edition.
Still I'd probably replace my old discs with this one since it all comes in a nice package.
Now, I'm wondering if Fox will do something similar with the Omen Anthology (include the older transfer of Omen 1 instead of the newer 2-disc version), some sites has this listed as a ''5 disc'' boxset including the original 4 Omen movies.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

No new transfers or audio upgrades? No sale, I already have what I want from the old discs & unless they upgrade the transfer and 5.1 track on the 1973 theatrical version of the Exorcist (the transfer is ok but the 5.1 remix is rather flat and lifeless IMO) or offer a nice SE for Exorcist III then I have no reason at all to double* dip on this set.

*(...or quadruple dip since I already have the 25th-TVYNS-III & Dominion...yes, I liked Dominion, it is flawed but had they given Schrader the chance to properly polish it then I think it would have been much more accepted than the incomplete version we have now.)

And what kind of packaging do the movies come in this time.Digipak.amaray cases or thinpaks?

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Thinpack's.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Yes, thinpacks. Both versions of #1 come in one pack, 2 & 3 have their own cases and both Dominion and Beginning come together in one case.
Only reason I may get this is because it takes up the space of about 2 regular DVDs.

Re: The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology

Both cuts - the Special Anniversary Edition + The Version You've Never Seen - come packaged in a single SLIMcase?

Does anyone have a picture of this, and is it the regular width of a single slimcase... or more like a single amaray?

I might purchase and sell the rest of the movies, but I'm not sure if the packaging would be awkward as a standalone without the set.

I'd love to see a picture so that I can decide whether to pick it up. I've never owned the original because I didn't want to have to purchase two seperate versions and always assumed the movies would recieve an upgrade.

I've got not beef with the a/v quality though, I'd just like to see the packaging to determine whether it's a worthwhile buy over the snapper cases.

I found this through Google Images... I hope it's some kind of joke.

It is the width of a regular slim case. The Pretender and The Brady Bunch season sets, among others, have been packaged this way.
