Just read on Zap2it that the CW will be streaming VM's season premiere on MSN a week before the broadcast:

Quote:
The network has teamed up with Microsoft to offer streaming video of three CW shows on MSN a week before their broadcast premiere, in what's becoming standard practice for the broadcast networks

With the MSN deal, all three shows will be available for viewing seven days before their on-air debut. That means "Runaway" will be up first, on Monday, Sept. 18. "Chris" will go up on MSN on Sunday, Sept. 24, and the third-season premiere of "Veronica Mars" will follow on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Well ABC has been doing it since about March or April, and Fox is now doing it. I personally think ABC set their's up a bit better, bigger picture, nicer quality. The bandwidth should be there, as should the quality. The "Lost" episodes I watched were a bit better than iPod quality, which is impressive for streaming tv. What remains to be seen is what kind of commercial system will it have. ABC's wasn't too annoying, I haven't watched anything on Fox yet.

I'm psyched about V.M. Season 3, I can't wait to see what happens. My dad and I are going through Season 2 right now (which I've already seen but it's good to review).

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

IMHO, the streaming stuff isn't worth watching unless it's a case where you missed an episode and there's no other alternative to catch up (but in just about every case, there is a better alternative).

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

No thanks, i'll watch it when it airs, i'd rather see it at 103" rather than 16".

I cannot wait for this new season, season 2 was incredible!

I refuse to install any streaming video applications on my computer -- I don't want to give any money to that bastard Jake Kane!

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

What's Jake Kane guilty of? Nothing as it turns out, so why boycott the poor man?

All I know is, I simply refuse to see anymore of Aaron Echoll' movies! The bastard came off wooden most of the time anyway.

Obstruction of Justice. He kept the police and the world from finding the real killer of his daughter. He may have thought what he was doing was the right thing... but in the end he almost let a murderer go...

Also, he married Celeste... 'nuff said...

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

I wonder if he will ever return since the actor's "Commander In Chief" role is obviously over?

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

I think the story of the Kanes is over and done and they will not be coming back to Neptune.

Aaron Echolls, on the other hand -- well, he has been resurrected and will be doing the cha cha over on Dancing with the Stars.

With Duncan off the show for good, I don't see Jake coming back as a real possibility, unless it's for a one show deal.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Why did I ask that question...I just SPOILED part of season 2 for myself.

Since I can't afford to get the DVDs now, I've been watching it on a local channel here, leading up to the eventual Season 3 premiere.

At least I don't know why Duncan is off the show. And I'll leave it at that.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Duncan is sent to a planet where all of the people are 2-dimensional pieces of cardboard... he builds a house and stays there... FOREVER.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

No, no, no. Duncan was recruited by a super-secret military initiative to combat demons. He was allowed in, even though his personality profile showed that he had more character than most recruits.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Your all wrong, he left because he was offered the role in A Walk to Remember 2: Jaime Lives, because Shane West bowed out and he looks just like him.

I wouldn't get too attached to Logan, either, becuase Jason Dohring is set to star in the upcoming Isn't that Special!: The Dana Carvey Story.

Wait, wait, wait...it's not the planet....MARS, is it?

Don't be knocking Logan now...he's my favorite character other than Veronica.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Sorry, Nicholas. I assumed that since this was a season 3 thread, we were all caught up on Season 2.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

That's the way it works. Anything that has aired is fair game in an ongoing thread. I would assume this does *not* include the streaming version that will premiere before the premiere, but I don't know that. At any rate, it is very dangerous to read a thread like this if you are not up to speed.

Season three promo with NEW footage from youtube.com. Well, the promo actually aired on some (soon to be) CW stations, but the link is to youtube.com.

Many, many thanks, Travis. That was a great start to the season. Can you put that URL in URL tags so it doesn't stretch the page so much?

Season 3 Premiere Question (you're really asking for it if you click this): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Did Dick rape Mac's roommate? That would be too easy, wouldn't it?

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

I just watched it. I had managed to resist every show that streamed early, but I couldn't manage to resist this!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
That was pretty freaking good! It wasn't the most amazing episode they've ever done, but as a season opener to set stuff up, it worked really well. SO glad to see all these characters again! And the dialogue was so snappy! Veronica really felt perfectly Veronica-y again, if that makes sense. And BSG references! Yay! And I am so, so glad that Tina Marjorino is a regular this year. Mac is awesome.

Loved the new credits. Seemed more grownup, but kept the song, which was really all I wanted

I think the Hearst rapist is a good tie -in to last season, especially because of what happened to Veronica. And poor Dick! The one character I thought they'd never give...you know... depth. I don't think he raped Mac's roommate because that'd fit too easily. So obviously it's not him.

I still think Logan and Veronica are absolutely adorable together, but did it seem like he was way more into her than she was into him? (The giving her a hotel room key scene was awesome though. Plus a taser!)

I wasn't that crazy about the Keith/Fitzpatrick/killing off Kendall subplot, but maybe it'll go somewhere good.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Veronica got really hot over the summer. Her hair keeps getting longer and longer. Overally, enjoyed the season premiere.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

I'll try to keep this vague and devoid of spoilers...

It's nice to see the show make a smooth transition into college. I always felt that Buffy fell apart in its fourth season, in large part because it lost its central metaphor, but also because the writers seemed to've learned about college by watching Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds rather than through first-hand experience. But this felt like it was written by someone who'd encountered dumb-ass TAs, drunks running through the dorm at 1:00AM, rally's in the quad, and teenage skate punks running around campus.

Definitely like the new credits, though the remixed theme song will take some getting used to.

I also see they revamped Logan's suite so it has some windows. Now it looks like an actual hotel room, not a set.

I don't entirely get the Keith storyline, though.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Did Vinnie actually bug the briefcase, or just drop in a pen with his number on it in case Keith changed his mind about teaming up? The video was too small and dark to tell. And if it was a bug, what was the point? No one seems to've been following them.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I'm glad to see that they're finally doing something with Dick. After they added him as a regular last season, it seemed like all he did was be obnoxious and didn't really contribute to the story, except by merely being Big Dick's more beloved son. Now that he's encountered some real tragedy in his life with the revelations about his brother, he's in a similar place to Logan in season 1 and 2.
As for the pen, it looked to me like there was a bug in it. It would afford Vinnie the chance to follow them safely out of sight, and may end up saving Keith.
As for what's actually going on, the briefcase from the end of last season was full of money, and Kendall hired Keith to hide her from Liam Fitzpatrick and so that she could reunite with the other Fitzpatrick brother (sorry, forgot his name) once he got out of jail. Seems she wasn't such a great judge of character, though, and he double-crossed her.

Did the professor's assistant seem familiar to anyone?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
that's the same actor playing the former soldier-turned-janitor in season 2, who was eventually shot in the schoolyard, but now with long hair and a beard.

Yes.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
That would be the ironically-named "Lucky." In a very bad wig. But Rob Thomas liked the actor so much he "Deadwooded" him and brought him back as the jerky TA.

I really enjoyed the premiere episode. Rob Thomas made a great effort to keep it "light and breezy" to lure in the GG fans, so Veronica was extra-quippy . . . Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
but saved the trademark VM punch to the guts for the very end.

Good job. I think I missed some key parts of the MOTW and the Keith/Kendall storyline, so I will have to rewatch it when it airs on the CW before dissecting it in any detail. My eyesight isn't good enough to watch in that tiny window.

Re: Veronica Mars Season 3

Just finished 2. Quite enjoyed it though I felt the show stumbled out of the gate a bit at the beginning with Veronica flip flopping between Duncan and Logan.

Good to hear the transition to college has been handled well.

I thought the S3 premiere was much better than the S2 premiere, especially for newer viewers. The S2 premiere "boyfriend switcheroo" subplot was very confusing for most viewers and I think new viewers would have been totally lost.

I think Rob Thomas learned from his mistake on that one, and kept the S3 premiere simple and straightforward and relatively easy to follow so new viewers were "eased" into Veronica's world. I'm sure there were a few confusing things (i.e., a few references to Dick's brother and what happened there, but with Dick and Mac still around, it had to be mentioned), but a new viewer could still follow most of what was going on.

And Veronica was as "likable" as she's ever been, even though she still managed to piss a few people off here and there. But she wouldn't be Veronica Mars if she didn't. Heh.
