Re: what happened to quality 2 channel systems?

well the bi-amped thing sounds cool but the cbm-170SEs dont support it (and ive never seen any speakers that would....im guessing some panasonic ones do though).

well, besides it being kind of akward and may be annoying to run the speaker level outputs through the sub first, are there any other reasons why doing that would suck?

There are plenty of speakers that support bi-amping, but you really want separate amps to do it anyway.

I would run the mains full range normal, the sub off the pre-outs, and just dial in the sub manually; w/SPL meter ideally, but by ear can get you by.

ok so i think my final decision is the CBM-170SEs paired with the STF-2 all running through the hk3480. the speakers have built in xovers so im not worried about sending a full signal to them. the sub has a vairable xover which i can dial to my choosing. and the hk receiver has gotten good reviews and recommendations all around...

so final thoughts?

The built in crossover in the 170s is to separate what part of the signal goes to the driver and what goes to the tweeter. The Hsu sub though does have a built in crossover that you can use to split the signal between sub and speakers.
