The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Akeelah and the Bee AND The Sentinel are available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the correct one(s) !

--I am still unsure of my efficiencies in finding and pricing the various HD & Blu-Ray release each week. Be forewarned. It seems like in-store prices at Best Buy and Circuit City are coming in cheaper than the prices as reported on-line.

I think this is a good week to note that Time-Life has released The Odd Couple: Season 1. Many sources are announcing this as a new release this week, but Time-Life has an exclusive and will be releasing this only through their company. For details click HEREl!

Many HTFers are starting to receive their copies and seem to be pleased with the quality of their season 1 set. Click HERE for reviews and information.

This information is currently up at the Time-Life site:

Nothing for me this week. I am saving up for Sept 12th. That day is going to be huge for HD DVD releases.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Circuit City's pricing on the Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile Collection is odd. Get the set for $25 or buy both of them separately for $19.98.

Thanks, as usual, Mike and Patrick!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks for the Roundup. Correction on Amazon's price for the Romancing/Jewel Collection. I had ordered them from Amazon & I got an email today that their new price is $19.87 & I wouldn't be charged the old price of $22.49 . I've also got Pretty In Pink & Some Kind of Wonderful coming from DDD @ $9.44 each.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

I got an email from Amazon.com that the Romancing The Stone/Jewel Of The Nile Collection was discounted to $19.87 and have adjusted my order as such.

The Chuck Norris Collection: Delta Force, Delta Force 2, Missing in Action, Missing in Action 1: The Beginning, Braddock: Missing in Action 3.

Mike, I had no idea that Chuck Norris made two Missing In Action 1's......

All righty then...guess I got some fixin' to do!

Mike scurries off to the table...

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks as usual.

Andy Griffith
Romancing the Stone (assuming improved PQ)
Jewel of the Nile (ditto)

Father of the Bride slipped under my radar, but if there's a reason to upgrade I'll do that one to.

I'm definitely not upgrading on LOTR just for some documentary.

Man, I wish I had the money to pick up the rest of the MacGyver seasons that I need...probably won't find a lower price ever again...

Life is odd, ain't it!

I only report the prices as they list 'em...what can I say?!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

It is nice to see that Best Buy did decide to have a special price for Dream Theater: Score for its debut Tuesday (thanks Patrick). Of course, I assumed that they weren't going to do that, so I ordered in online for a few bucks more. Oh well, it was an amazing concert to see in person and one that I was going to own on DVD no matter what the cost ended up being.

I have heard a lot about Veronica Mars, almost all of it good. Anybody think it's worth a blind buy?

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (finally!) and Trilogy of Terror for me.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

No "gotta have it right away" releases for me this week. I am tempted to upgrade on "Pretty in Pink" just for the original ending, but I think I can wait. And I will get Desperate Housewives S2 and MST3K v. 10 eventually, too, just not this week.

And no, I'm not shelling out for the LOTR trilogy again, given that I have both previous releases of all three films - unless someone can convince me that the new documentaries are absolutely essential. And I think that would take a miracle.

Thanks for the hard work, as always, guys.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike and Patrick! Looks like Arrested Development for me this week. Actually, it's for my wife who is a HUGE fan, but I enjoy the program, too.

For $19.99, I say absolutely! This was a blind buy for me and I ended plowing through the set in around four days. The show occasionally has the trappings of your typical WB "teen" drama, but in reality, it is a whole different breed of animal. (Give it a chance, especially at the beginning.) The main story arc, which is pretty dark, is told completely over the course of the season and it really builds up steam as the season progresses. In the end, it is quite effective and the season finale is one of the best I've seen for any program, ever. As always, YMMV, but for $20, you can do a lot worse than Veronica Mars, IMO. BTW, as someone well beyond the age of the show's target audience, I still found the program thoroughly enjoyable.

This review - http://www.andyfilm.com/8-22-06.html - says that the original ending isn't actually on the disc - they just discuss it and show some footage of the filming of it.

For anyone interested in Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful, Paramount has already announced a box set with these two plus Ferris Beuller's Day Off to come out 10/10.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks for the round-up.

Deep Discount has the Atomic Bomb Collection for $23.96. The three discs are the same, including the 3-D portion. The cover is different (it was released in 2000). I show clips from Trinity & Beyond to my freshman -- they love it.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks, Mike and Patrick. I'll be getting Arrested Development S3 this week and, maybe, Sentinel.

Sentinel, BTW, as of now (10:30 Sunday morning) is $12.99 at Amazon, but that could go up at anytime.

Castle of Cagliostro for me, thanks.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Why does the LOTR Trilogy box set cost so much more than if you bought all three movies separately? That just doesn't make sense.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Thanks guys!

Looks like I may start collecting Southpark at BB this week.

Also gotta pick up Arrested Development and The Tick!

As usual, lotta good deals too little money.

Oh, and somebody let me know how those new LotR docs were!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

It's Arrested Development for me, this week. I have been sitting on a BB gift certificate since Father's Day that I will be cashing in on this.

I have noticed that my DVD buying has slowed down considerably in the last couple of years, since I got my first DVD player in 1998. Has anyone else slowed down there purchases as well?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

Marty-

A few exceptions aside (Simpsons box sets or the occaisional new movie not coming to HD), my SD buying has come to a halt over the past year or so. But it has been replaced by HD DVDs. Not to the point where I will pick up anything and everything that comes out on the format, but it is my first choice of looking and purchasing if I feel the need for a new addition to the library.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-29-2006

As I noted at the end of last week's RoundUp, I am conducting an "experiment" of sorts this week (probably more appropriate to say I am trying something new) and pre-ordered a new release from amazon.com.

I figured I wouldn't be able to beat amazon's deal on Surivivor: Palau so I ordered this "gotta have now" title from them. I am hoping they get it to me quickly. It seems I've heard stories about amazon delivering new release stuff right on date-of-release (give or take a day). But their e-mail confirmations to me mention a shipping date of September 3 (for an August 29 release) with expected delivery on September 11-12. As Malcolm noted in last week's RoundUp, September 3 is also the Sunday before the Labor Day holiday.

So, I don't know what to expect. But, I will report back here whatever happens.

I didn't notice the Target price up there for Desperate Housewives. It is $35.99 in our local flyer plus a $5 Target gift card.

What type of shipping did you select? If you use their free Super Saver shipping, they will quote a delayed shipping time (they will actually ship in-stock product later if the free shipping option is chosen). Any other method should've quoted you a ship date the same as the street date (or earlier), if it were working correctly.

I just tried it out and if I choose standard shipping, it quotes me a ship date of 8/28. If I choose the free shipping, it changes to 9/1.
