Question about PMs and Buddy Lists

This may be just about the dumbest question ever posted here...but ever since the upgrade I haven't been able to figure this out.

In the old software, we had a "buddy list" from which we could select boxes next to the members' names on the list and send PMs. In the new software, I find I have to manually enter (read "type") in the name of the recipient when I send a PM. (I usually start this process by clicking "Send new message" in the left-hand column of my UCP or PM page.) And, while I have some names entered on my new "Buddy List", I don't know why. I haven't figured out what the advantage is of having someone listed on the current "Buddy List". The list doesn't seem to do "anything".

Am I missing something? I don't send a lot of PMs...but enough to make me want to know how to streamline the process, if possible.

It used to seem pretty easy to select a "buddy's" name and then click a button to get to a page where all I had to do was enter the text of the message and push "send". I am now often worried if I have the exact spelling of the name and if the upper/lower case is correct, etc.

Any help from HTFers who PM a lot (or administrators) would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mike:

Are you wanting to send a private message to someone from your buddy list?

Mike:

If use the pull down menu with your username, go to the view public profile and you will see just above your signture a list of your buddies. If you click on their username under their profile picture you will then be able to click on the send a private message, email, etc.

Yup. As I said, I don't PM as much as some, but when I do its usually to a select few.

In the old software, you'd go to your buddy list, select the buddy (or buddies) to whom you wanted to send a PM, type it in and off you'd go.

It seems the way you pointed out to me would pretty much do things the same way. I don't think I had ever checked my "public profile" before...so I don't think I had ever seen that one's buddies were listed there. Now that I know, I will add some more and should be all set.

It seems a little non-intuitive to go one's own profile to PM others (and you've got to be in a thread which has one of your own posts in it)...but it'll work!

Thanks.

Now that I don't believe.

Click User CP (= User Control Panel) on the second top bar left. Go to Miscellaneous, one of those is "Buddy/Ignore List". Doesn't that work for you?

No that is what Mike was pointing out. It doesn't do that. I did add another option in the User Control Panel left hand column called View Profile. This will allow you to view your own profile, which will list all your buddies, etc. on one page.

If you click on the username of one of your buddies this will take you to their profile and allow you to send them a private message, email, etc. from that page.

I know what Mike is referring to with the old software having all of your buddies listed in one area in your profile and you could mass PM them from there. That doesn't exist with this software and it hasn't been written by another coder.

Parker: Did you just put that feature there? I don't remember seeing it there before! THAT will work just fine.

>User CP
>View Profile
>Select Buddy
>Send PM

Seems fairly logical to me.
