"While we're talking Paramount, they've announced another cool DVD release today as well... a single-disc Scrooged: Yule Love It! Edition, due on 10/31. We'll post more details on that when they're available."
from the Digitalbits

Anyone know what this will be?

Well, I may get this one if there are decent additions.

Meaning what exactly?

You hate this film?
You think this will be bare-boned?
You think it'll be overpriced?
You hate 'cute' titles?

For myself, I love the movie, but will only buy this if there's an improved transfer, or some amazing extra like deleted scenes.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

This might be a worth a double dip for me. The version I have is definitely not very good. Bare Bones and poor transfer. But, I did get it from some bargain bin so I was't expecting much.

The movie is great. I watch it every year.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

The cutesy title is from the movie though, I believe. The promo for the Scrooge special in Scrooged.
Wonder if they'll do a new transfer? The older one is decent but probably could be improved.

Now if we could only get the Alastir Sim version remastered!

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I was about to buy the current version on DVD just this morning.... very glad I waited!

One of my favorite films finally getting the DVD treatment it deserves (hopefully....).

And George, I agree with you - deleted scenes would be fantastic.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I'll buy it if they release it on HD DVD, otherwise no sale.

Oh okay. I thought it was just a horrible title. If it's a horrible title that's from the movie then it's slightly better.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I agree it is still cheesy. Interestingly this cover does not look much different from the last one. Often with SE's to avoid confusion they change them quite a bit like say, "Midnight Cowboy"

Mostly that this is just another formulaic re-release from a studio which in my opinion, is growing entirely useless in the past few years.

Take an existing 80's / early 90's Gen X comedy, reissue it with marginally improved transfer-specs (if even), tack on some throw-away features and a dumb title name and put it out at double the retail price of the current version.

Continue to neglect all other existing film properties in their library.

I love Scrooged. It's a great holiday movie and a really fun, funny and light-hearted take on the traditional story.

Is a Special Edition necessary... perhaps the transfer could be spruced up a bit?

I was just posting sarcastically that I wasn't surprised to see of the very few films announced so far from the studio, this reissue with it's stupid title banner, posted.

Who knows, I might end up buying it if the price is right.

I was just having a little dig at Paramount.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

Gotcha Marco and agreed. They are trying to milk every last cent out of SDdvd before HD...

Unfortunately I am kind of a sucker for this when it's a flick I like.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I'm agreeing with Marco on this. I don't want to sound like a grumbly old git, but does Scrooged really need a special edition? I mean really? I like the movie a lot, but unless the special features on the new edition are spectacular then I'll stick with what I've got.

Danny Elfman isolated score?

Ooooh, that would be nice but what are the odds with Paramount?
If we do get a spankin' new transfer that bodes sell for an evntual HD release.

Well, that is really subjective. There are special editions of a lot of movies that I have wondered "Why in the hell did that movie need a special edition".

I happen to like Scrooged a lot. If there is a lot of material that they can add to make it better, I am all for it.

The real issue is how the studios put out bare bones discs in the first place. This is a really hard thing. Do they put a disc out quickly, so the fans can get the movie fast, or do they hold it back for months/years waiting for new transfer, bonus material?

Having a bare bones, then a collectors edition is a way to satisfy both groups I guess.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

How about the complete, unexpurgated "Father Loves Beaver" special as a Very Special Bonus Feature™?

I'd bite for that...

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I'm happy it's getting a SE....NOT pleased with another DVD getting another STUPID title. Paramount's really bad with this.

Just call it a special edition and leave it at that.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

The way I see it, why bother purchasing this film again on SD? It's more than likely that all the possible extras for this release will end up ported over to an eventual HD release anyway with maybe a few more goodies thrown in for good measure. As much as I love the film......I'll stick with the current release and pick up an HD version maybe a couple of years down the line.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

Cause I watch this each December, and God knows when the format war is going to be over and when this will make it to the winning format, so there's a number of viewings where I'd enjoy an improved transfer before I ever get around to buying this in an HD format.

I'd love it too but it'll never happen. Elfman hated working on SCROOGED -- I believe he said they screwed around with his score because the film's tone was constantly changing in the editing room. (He mentioned this in his Music for a Darkened Theatre Vol. 1 CD).

I don't hate the movie, but clearly this is not one of Richard Donner's better films, even though the Superman fan boys would have you believe he never made a mistake behind the lens!

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

I tend to forget it's a Donner film until the opening credits.

This is one of his good ones. But over time, I'm growing to loathe all the Lethal Weapon films. But I look forward to owning Superman and Scrooged in HD someday.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

Why is eveyone saying things like..."Im not gonna get this now! It'll (keyword coming up...) eventually be on HD. Yeah...and eventually we'll be watching these movies in SUPER-HD.

Just get what you can now. Dont expect 'Scrooged SE' to be a first-on-the-list HD title. If ever in HD.

DVD has been around for 8-9 years now...were just now getting 'Scrooged SE'. How long do you think you are gonna wait for it in HD?

"I want everything in HD, now!"

Ugh.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

A Bill Murray commentary would be a pretty nifty thing. Has he ever even recorded a commentary before? I know he didn't for the one movie he should have, namely Rushmore.

Re: SCROOGED: YULE LOVE IT EDITION

You bet its necessary, I’m thrilled, I can’t wait for this. Very excited!!!

I’ve kept holding out on this hoping to see some kind of special edition and the wait paid off. I think most all DVDs should have at least a little something in features. Even if just commentary, some facts, trailers, etc, whatever. One of the best parts of DVDs is getting a little something extra in there. Or even a better transfer or sound. I love the cover too on this, like how they changed it just a bit adding the Xmas red to it, sleeve to the skeleton hand and some other details. I’ll be getting this the day it comes out! One of my most fav holiday movies.

I don’t care about HD, I don’t by that stuff. What we can have on regular DVD is HD enough for me and stuff doesn’t need to change so often. So I hope HD doesn’t even do good.

They need to do some Home Alone Special Editions, been holding out on those too.

Good enough for you, cool. But don't "hope" that HD doesn't do good for the rest of us...

I've preordered it here without any problems, and they list it as being released on October 31st.
