T3 will be the only one of the entire batch to also include exclusive HD bonus features, with an "In-Movie Experience" enhanced video commentary hosted by the film's director, Jonathan Mostow.
1st KA???

Thanks.

I think any release on HD will be a be a benefit in one way or another; however, as you pointed out in the HD DVD/BD "war" thread, these formats are still primarily aimed at the hardcore HT enthusiast. As such, I think that the releasing of more "time tested" classics, standards, and "old favorites" would do more to prod fencesitters into purchasing one or more of the formats than newer releases would.

I believe that MI3 was somewhat of a box office disappointment so I cannot picture a release on the HD formats as having a big impact on new sales of players: especially not with the crowd that is presently looking at these formats.

IMO, stellar releases of films such as THE GODFATHER, APOCALYPSE NOW, ALIEN, STAR WARS, etc. would do more to generate new sales of players than a release of MI3 would. However, that is not to say that MI3 will not sell some players, since I think it will......just not as many as the releasing of some time honoured films would.

I think MI3 will sell very well within the base of installed players, because people who own players right now are going to be starving for material. Anyway, for what is worth (which isn't much ), that is how I see it.

Re: Do We Have The Killer HD Disc, Yet?

I own about 16 HD-DVD titles at this point. I would say that the
two best-looking discs I own are Sahara and Phantom of
the Opera
.

The two worst discs are Caddyshack (shows flaws in source
material) and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (not a problem
with transfer but manner of intended presentation).

Re: Do We Have The Killer HD Disc, Yet?

Yes, Sahara looks gorgeous as does Phantom....Aeon Flux did too but that was a rental. Actually Aeon Flux might be the best transfer....

Hi Tony,
Thanks for getting this thread back on track! ;-)
The "Killer App" for an HD disc must have;
1. Outstanding Video (as good or better than any other HD disc out)
2. Outstanding Sound (as good or better than any other HD disc out)
3. Outstanding Menu (as good or better than any other HD disc out)
4. Outstanding Features (or extras. This is the true test for the "KA", cause as far as I know, no HD disc has HD features or even unique [not found on any previous home video addition] extras).

That's why I recently posted "T3", as a possibility for the "1st KA".

Constantine and The Bourne Supremecy have the In Movie Experience, there may be others as well, but I knot these two have IME (which is unique to HD DVD)

I still maintain that Harry Potter GOF will be among the first killer HD DVDs.

This should be the cream de la creme for HD-DVD. I can't wait for this baby.

Re: Do We Have The Killer HD Disc, Yet?

I would say everything has looked decent so far except Lara Croft: Tomb Raider which was about Paar to the SD DVD Version. Spy Game really impressed me, so has Seabiscuit, The Bourne Supremacy and Syriana. I ordered The Searchers even though I just purchased the SD DVD of it; only because the word is that is the Best HD DVD so far.

We Do Have The Killer HD Disc!

BLADE RUNNER

Five Stars/Five Stars/Five Stars/Five Stars
HD DVD Review: Blade Runner (Ultimate Collector's Ed.) | High-Def Digest

end of thread ;-)

Actually, no HD extras (that were indeed shot... just not used on "this" release... someday...).

Re: Do We Have The Killer HD Disc, Yet?

Looks like the "Godfather" release could give it a run for it's money, at least in presentation.

Re: Do We Have The Killer HD Disc, Yet?

I'm waiting for Lawrence of Arabia with the alternate ending. You know...the ending where the UK keeps the mideast and gas prices now are 10 cents a gallon.
