"This is it Radar, we're approaching Nirvana!"

Wow, I like the artwork for the single disc version. And the gift set's art is cool too using the classic pose of Robby and Alta.

I must be missing something. Have we actually seen the poster that we'll be getting when we mail in the card from the Ultimate Collector's set?

I believe that in a master shot of the Ultimate Edition and all of its contents in the upper left hand corner is the paper that shows the poster, though I could of course be wrong. I think that it is safe to assume even if that is not the poster that the poster will be great, don't you?

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

There's a poster? A mail-in poster? Those items in the upper left look like the lobby cards. Are you referring to a large poster?

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

There is no poster included inside the Ultimate Collector's Tin. Here's the relevant passage from the official WB announcement:

Quote:
Ultimate Collectors Edition in Unique Metal Alloy Collector’s Case
Contains Collectible Robby The Robot Action Figure, Reproduction Lobby Cards Portfolio and Mail-In Movie Poster Offer

(Emphasis added)

I'm very glad the poster won't be in the box, by the way, because they'd have to fold it so small that we'd never get the creases out of it.

The item in the upper left hand corner could be a representation of the final poster, or the mail-in card for the poster or any number of other things. Maybe the poster in question is a reproductoin of the 50th anniversary tin art. Which would be cool, but not as cool as a reproduction of one of the original release posters. Whatever it is, I'm sure Warner Bros. will do a nice job, and I'm sure I'll be happy to add it to my own collection of framed movie posters. I'm just not sure we've seen anything that tells us for sure what it will be.

Regards,

Joe

have the same problem watching Gone with the Wind, whose theme music was borrowed for the WOR-TV Million Dollar Movie, which ran a lot of horror and SF in the late afternoons when I was a kid growing up in New York.
Uh, Taras Theme was borrowed from Gone With the Wind. That was Million Dollar movies theme. Not the other way around.
I also remember they would show the Crawling Eye constanly.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

GREAT NEWS!!! - I just pre-ordered the 'Ultimate Collector's Tin' @ Amazon ... Should look great next to my 10" Remote Controlled Robby the Robot w/Lights, Motorized Walking Motion and Voice*(*Original Voice from the movie Forbidden Planet skillfully portrayed by actor Marvin Miller of television's "The Millionaire" series) & 4" Wind-up Robby the Robot!

FYI: Close-up Remote & Robbie's Clear Dome view.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Phil,

what's a guy gotta do to get put into your will? I think that I have a moral duty to inherit that 10" romote-control Robby...

Naturally if I go first you can pick something of mine... fair trade!

p.s. is that toy vintage, out of production, or still available?

Er, yes, I know, which is why I say the theme was borrowed "for the Million Dollar Movie" not from it, and why this example follows the resuse of the Frankenstein music in the later serials, as another example of borrowing.

Phil:

You appear to have killed your image site. I keep getting Network errors about too much traffic. Don't you know better than to dangle images of toys in front of geeks? Especially movie and SF geeks, the most dangerous geeks of all.

DaVID:

I'm still waiting to hit the lottery. That $40K full-sized replica will be mine yet!

Joe

So, ... what do you have that would be considered ... fair trade???

This Trendmaster 1999 Collectable Remote Controlled 'Robby the Robot' is out of production.

The only place that occasionally have them is @ eBay!!! Sometimes, (if everybody is asleep when the auction ends) you can get them for around $50 + SH.

Yeah, but too bad there's no mention of an HD-DVD collector's edition with the tin, lobby cards, Robby figure, and poster. Now I have to buy both.

Read the article again Jim. It does mention a HD-DVD release w/the tin.

From paragraph 2:

Hitting HD DVD simultaneously and day-and-date with the standard-def DVD, 'Forbidden Planet' will be a first title ever to hit either next-gen format in a deluxe collector's box set. Billed as the "Ultimate Anniversary Edition," Warner will package the title in a "stunning metal case" that includes the HD DVD, a collectible Robby the Robot replica with moveable limbs, 'Forbidden Planet' and 'The Invisible Boy' reproduction lobby cards portfolio, as well as a 'Forbidden Planet' original theatrical poster mail-in offer.

Now you don't have to buy both.

Fudge. Trying to hold out for Blu-ray. But Forbidden Planet on HD DVD. It just might be worth buying an A1...

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

I was thrilled when I heard that Warner was putting out the 70mm MUTINY/BOUNTY and the 50th ANN FORBIDDEN PLANET on HD-DVD at the same time as regular DVD. However, I knew it was beyond hope that they would make their ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION available in HD-DVD, specifically at this point in time....and for the SAME SRP as the 'standard' def DVD "COLLECTOR'S" TIN version. I'm so grateful!!!!! WOWWEE!!!

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

I haven't taken the plunge into High-Def yet but when I do, Forbidden Planet will be one of the first High-Def titles I buy.

Meanwhile, let me at the standard def DVD set

I've seen factory refurbs online for $325 shipped. If nothing else, you get a hell of a nice DVD player.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Any notion of a time frame for a BD release of F.P.?

With WB's committment to release all titles on both formats... I wonder if the BD version might be just a few months behind. Maybe a BD50? And I know it will be the same VC1 video file!

[bites fist] Forbidden Planet - special edition soon on SD-DVD? [gasps] That'll do me. Thanks.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Dang it! Now I'm going to have to wait for the side by side comparisons to see if I end up buying the standard version or if I end up waiting for a HD Christmas present. I suppose there could be worse decisions to be made...

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Yep cancelled my SD tin order, waiting for the HD version now.
